Sliding curtain rail tucked under the black tube free solar water heater is genius! Very well done young man! Show us how you did the sliding round pipe section. Is that on drawer glides? Its truly smart!!! The entire set up took under 3 mins. And for those Negative Nancys here, why not take this idea and improve on it? The two labor intensive areas are the curtain tabs, and the floor mat. Use magnetic curtain tabs, and use a slotted wood base - 1 piece unit. Forget the drain piping out. Water drains thru the slots esp on sloped ground right into the grass. Set up time will be 30 seconds. Truly genius! Thanks for a great DIY demo!!

This is why I love my van's rear swinging doors. I just back up to any bush, tree or wall swing open the doors and total privacy back there to do anything.. work, cook, shower, etc. I'm building an 8 gallon pressured solar shower with a pump for pulling water from any well, creek or canal. My plan is to integrate the shower into my rack and solar panel support. Will post up the build soon.

!Love the slide out rod! That's fast and easier than any $200+ awning I've seen. Then just attach any shower curtain but I'd probably get one with hooks that are faster than all the velcro straps! Great ideas!! Going to make the slide out rod for sure, maybe even out of pvc. Thanks for sharing!!

The shower rod idea I will use.The rest nah. I'm sticking with a home made PVC tank on top fitted with a bolt in tire valve for airing it up. Do love the shower rod though for the curtain.

PVC will explode randomly one day as it ages.. ABS doesn’t explode the same way.. it’s a lot safer to use ABS and can still pressurize it to around a 30 psi working pressure (100ish max)

Very nice and thought out. I have done a similar shower curtain rail using both 1 inch and 3/4 inch PVC pipe. The 1inch pipe is secured to my roof bars and the 3/4 inch pipe’s slide out to form the rail. The shower curtains are the side walls,(x2), of a 2.4m gazebo. I use telescopic tent poles to support the rail, with the curtain secured by tent pegs. The floor is a simple beach mat. We use a 10L pump up shower, this suits our needs as the submersible pump type were too heavy on the water.

This is great if you were in one spot for a couple of days, but it is way to complex to set up. You would be better off with a large stainless steel or plastic garden pressure sprayer. This eliminates the pump, and if it is metal you can heat it on your gas stove. It is also easy to fill up and place in the sun. I give this 4 out of 10.

The base was made from PVC plastic and a canvas guy sewed the velcro on the base & welded & stitched the corners so they didn't leak . I put the mats down as it was a bit slippery when wet but the foam mats floated with the build up of water , need heavier ones . Curtain material was rip stop nylon .

Excellent work. I'm considering nearly the exact same design for the shower but with PVC pipe and plan on it sliding under the roof cage when not in use. I think I'll use a standard shower curtain. Good to see a proof of concept before I start. Thanks 😀

Love the design. But I'd leave all the shower curtain attached. Gather it to the front and roll it up into some type of zippered bag. No need to remove it and reinstall every time. Nice work!

Very cool design thanks for sharing. I will definitely use some of your ideas when I build my truck/camp shower. Love the retractable/stowable curtain rod. Great alternative to a separate shelter. Looks like a factory roof rack accessory option. Should refine and design it for a patient then present it to camp shower, roof rack, camping supply, off road truck accessory, companies. Can make some $$ off of such a simple functional design. Never know.

Some good ideas there, but I'll echo what others have said... too much setup. The slide-out curtain rod is great -- easy to bend some conduit. A cheap tarp and magnets for the curtain would suffice. Wear flip-flops or just use your floor mats for something to stand on. I'd just mount some wired-in LED work lights on the roof rack instead of that solar light. And I like the extra water capacity of the square-tube that surround the roof basket, but worry about all that weight sloshing around when half full... it might need baffles inside to prevent sloshing/swaying side-to-side. Instead of a fancy digital thermometer, just use one of those cheap adhesive liquid crystal thermometers.... used on aquariums or brewers tanks... they go up to 40C I think. But definitely a lot of thought went it... it just needs to be simplified.

I like projects like this, mine are generally electronic, however, In the last year I've built a four wheeled, inline two passenger, peddle car (assisted), due to my seizures, I cannot operate a non human powered vehicle on the road (legally), I can have electric or small gas engine assist, which I use an Honda GX100, with engine label removed of course ;), along with about a 750watt capacity electric hub motor system for both front wheels(coiled for high speed), warning to others if you make a quadricycle with both wheels driven separately, they need to be synced relatively close, not fully synced, so one can create a differential effect. I have a small differential that I ordered out of parts catalog for one of those small chinese 150cc buggy's for off road use, I had figured they would use the same drive system as a scooter however it does have a variator but it drives a belt to a high - low differential for the rear wheels, I use that on my rear wheels which is driven by my GX100, I have it set to low gear for now, but can put in a high - low shifter in the future, which is planned soon. With the electric front drive this buggy has a good power to weight ratio, something like a typical modern sedan, with one 250lbs operator, however only to about 28ish, I'ts max is around 47MPH down a modest down-hill, but I can hold it at around 32mph all the time with just the GX100, with a passenger. The electric drive is more for bursts and takeoffs, plus whatever I'm able to give it by peddling.

Got to hand it to this guy. Very well thought out and complete, but are you really going to set that up an take it down every time? I could see if you were camped for three or four days and not moving the vehicle, but I wouldn't do that everyday day for a shower. Sea to Summit makes 10 Liter black solar shower bags... nearly same result with little to no time investment to design, construct or disassemble. Fill bag night before and hang where sun will be in the AM. Sleep in and take warm shower by 11AM -1PM.

Seems like a lot of work for a shower. Might I suggest one of those pop up shower tent, 2 x 5 gallon buckets, a household electric kettle to boil water, a cheap 12v power inverter to plug into your car, use the same water source and you only need to boil 500ml of water, then kix that with the cold water and you have 2galling of decently hot water to use in less than 10minutes.
