I have an ALU-CAB shower enclosure fixed to my Tacoma, but I haven't settled on a hot water system yet. I'm picky hehe. My first choice was yours from Quick Pitch, but my local overlanding shop who is the sole supplier in my area for Quick Pitch is having seemingly endless supply problems importing stuff. I gave this video a thumbs up. This will encourage the KZbin algorithm to recommend more of your videos in the future. Well done!

haha thanks for the boost! Have you checked out the Joolca all in one shower system? It's pricey, but it's a nice self contained setup.
@williamfenner95264 жыл бұрын
My set up is almost exactly the same as yours, but I added a support poles to the out side ends of the Quik Pitch bars using 2 Coleman Fiberglass Tent Pole Repair Kits. These poles keep the bars from sagging and keep the canvas from blowing in the wind and sticking to you while your wet.
@KramerJunction4 жыл бұрын
William Fenner ohh I get what you’re saying, that’s a good idea and sounds easier than having to stake the corners down. I’d be interested to see pictures of that. That shower room is definitely not ideal in high winds the way it is

If you count the En Suite, water heater, pump and Water tank plus some tubing and fitting it’s just under $800. The tank kinda has multiple purposes, but definitely cheaper options. Yeah, it’s a luxury setup for sure haha After days on the road it definitely feels like money well spent though. I’ve taken my mom and other female company on long trips and they definitely appreciate it lol I went down a rabbit hole with this setup, for sure lol Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 👍🏻

Always amazed at how crafty people are when it comes to personal comfort in the wilderness. OTOH, $569 for the shower enclosure (the web site price) I think I'd just stand out in the open. Yer in the boondocks anyway and nobody around so why not?
@KramerJunction3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the price for the metal enclosure version is definitely somewhat steep, but the quality is definitely top notch. A big part of that is also because they are imported from South Africa. Haha I have definitely stood butt nekked and showered out in the middle of nowhere before, but when there have been others around it has definitely come in handy. I also may or may not have pooped in a grocery store parking lot and used it for some other activities, but I’ll spare you 😉

@@KramerJunction ... I get the humor. (we're not far apart there) I'm just more of a DIY guy doing some quick math and figuring you've got near a grand into a shower with the heater, enclosure, tank bracket, etc. I also own one of those heaters. (pretty sweet idea) Last year I cobbled up some stray camping gear and used 2 adjustable tent poles on my roof rack to support a tarp that hung over the side of my vehicle. For another $20 I could have bought a shower curtain and hung that instead IOW, a multi use system of support that takes up very little space and only a few more minutes to set up, depending on the use. BTW, I also did some math on using a standard 20 lb BBQ tank for the shower and I figured around 600 showers at 3 minutes each, 1.5 gpm flow rate. Been using the same tank for years!
@KramerJunction3 жыл бұрын
@@rupe53 I think one of the most ingenious setups I’ve seen was a hula hoop with a shower curtain attached to it. Probably $20 worth of parts and makes a huge enclosure. I definitely went off the deep end with my setup lol 😂🤷♂️
@rupe533 жыл бұрын
@@KramerJunction ... I like the idea of a hula-hoop but even that needs support. The best idea I ever came up with was to bring my portable heater to a music festival, along with 600 ft of garden hose. I mounted it on a tree at the edge of a field by my camp and let people use it. (just a rubber mat on the ground with no curtain) You can't imagine the line of naked people waiting to get clean after a few days in the heat of summer.... especially the young mothers with sticky kids. How much do you charge for a shower? (Yeah, I put out a coffee can for donations but it only covered a tank of propane) My real answer was I charge a hug... AFTER you shower. I can't tell you how many repeat customers I had. I did that for about 8 years in a row at the same festival. Good gig if you can get it.

How long do you get out of that 5lb propane tank taking a shower? Looks like a nice setup other than the size of the hot water heater
@KramerJunction3 жыл бұрын
The water heater I have is definitely on the larger size. There are much smaller heaters out there that would be better suited for this. I’m actually working on a more compact setup and I actually found a hot water heater that fits in one of my side storage bags. That propane tank holds a remarkable amount of propane, you will easily run out of water ten times over before that tank even thinks about running dry. I use the tank for a couple different purposes so it would be hard for me to say exactly, but the tank does hold a ton of propane

@KramerJunction3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t submerge it but I know they are ok for outdoor use. I’m not 100% sure how much water they can’t take though, there are components like the igniter inside. Definitely don’t want to leave it out in freezing temps as residual water inside the heat exchanger will freeze and expand causing damage. I keep it in the back of the Jeep and always turn it upside down to get most of the residual water out

Do you find it normal for the pressure to go down 1-2 lbs per hour after pumping up?
@KramerJunction3 жыл бұрын
I’m thinking you mean for the on demand pump? The water pressure from the pump stays constant for me and as long as your fitting fitting are tight with no leaks it shouldn’t cycle until used. I forget to turn the pump off constantly and have had on it for days and weeks at a time and never hear it kick it. At one point I heard the pump cycling occasionally and saw a leak which was easy to fix by tightening fittings. I don’t have a pressure gauge or anything like that hooked up so I couldn’t even tell you if I had a slight pressure loss, but if I did I would eventually hear the pump cycle.
