Thanks for the video. You got USB-C and USB-A confused -- though you kind of clear it up by showing examples of what you're talking about. The newer, smaller oval shaped one on many phones is USB-C, and the older larger rectangle is USB-A. See these wikipedia articles for confirmation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Connectors en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB-C

I have a lot of respect for flight crews having to put up with the jerks and their carry-on suitcases who also want to freeload into getting first class seats. It’s a tough job and flight attendants are not raking in the big bucks. The best advice I would give is to realize once you enter the air travel portal you are no longer the captain of your destiny. The best strategy is to be a nice person and roll with things.

USB A cables have the older rectangular plugs that are installed on most aircraft systems. USB-C are the newer plugs that that are smaller and and can be plugged in either direction. USB-C is not common on airplanes although they are becoming a more common for faster charging on newer Android phones.

I am currently booking my flight back home to the US from China in August. Those 39 hour flights are brutal. Your tips were really helpful, thank you! I swear by the little bag inside my big carry on. I normally use this bag to put everything that TSA specifically wants to see so I can just whip out the smaller bag, they dig through it, then I put it back in my big bag for quick access through security. This is more or less flight tips for pampered techies. I can still recall when longhaul flights just had video monitors that used to descend from the ceiling and would only show 2 pre-chosen movies the entire flight, mostly when passengers were asleep. And that wasn't too long ago either. Just bring a book rather than watching mindless Hollywoke movies. Your brain will thank you for it later.

I’ve got a tip for you. I went on vacation to Hawaii within the last 2 weeks to see my cousins. I brought along my Bose 45s but Sonys over ears works too. I put them around my neck and carried them on the plane. All the noise-canceling headphones have a jack where you can plug the headphones into the screens in front of you. So you don’t need to use the tinny buds type that the airlines gives you. I carry usbc and usbA cords. I always get a color like pink cords so I don’t misplace them.✈️

The connector in the seatback you show at 4:39 is a USB-A connector. That little adapter you are adding to it turns it into a USB-C connector. It might have the USB-C protocol to charge your phone quicker. The cord you show at 4:45 is a USB-C to Apple Lightening cable, it is for Apple phones only. If you have a non-Apple phone, your phone probably requires a USB-C connector. The power adapter you show in 4:51 is a 110VAC outlet to USB-C connector. Many of these adapters will also work with the 220VAC electricity used outside the US, you should check before you travel. Yes, this is all very confusing. If I had an Apple iPhone, I would bring the same three items you did. If I had a USB-C non-Apple phone, the cable would be USB-C to USB-C. Otherwise, the same. Note that the (EU) European Union is trying to force Apple to use the USB-C standard instead of their Lightening connector. I'm not sure what you'll find there these days.

On long-haul flights, I always carry my BLuetooth noise cancelling headphones AND a GOOD pair of wired earbuds. (1) if in flight entertainment system has a good movie, I can watch it. (2) if my noise cancellation headphones run out of power, I can STILL listen to music or watch movies. GOOD Wired headphones are cheap now and weigh next to nothing. Plus, you can use them on a tourist bus or tour to listen to commentary instead of using the junk the tour gives you.

I prefer a book on the plane. Low Tech. Then noise cancelling equipment. Or journaling if the plane isn’t too rough. I can journal between flights and read on the plane. I prefer watching movies in my hotel where it’s quiet and I’m showered and on my bed. I’m 74 and have been flying since I was two. My Dad was a commercial pilot after learning to fly a bomber during WWII.

I appreciate the tips. I recently flew from Bahamas to Philadelphia on a new American Airlines plane (2 weeks old) and it had no screens on the backs of the seats on any rows. My trip from Los Angeles to DFW on American Airlines also had no screens. The airline provided Wi-Fi to use iPads/iPhones and a rest on the back of the seat. It was ok, but I noticed many flyers did not have blue tooth headphones (you can’t charge and plug in your headphones) so , unless you brought a divider for charging and listening, you had to make a choice. Not good. Next time, I will have a double connector so I can charge and listen. There were many people on the plane complaining about the lack of screens. I guess its one way the airlines are cutting back and expecting passengers to use their own devices instead of the airlines. I usually fly Delta where the screens are still in place, but watch out on American Airlines.

I started taking my own small blanket, because couple of yrs ago flying to NZ I did notice lack of blankets. I do it now for domestic flights here in the US if I think it's need. Also I take a shawl which can act as blanket on the plane and cover off the plane and use it for my head resting on back of the seat as you never know whether the seat is clean.

My most comfortable position is upright seat back, pillow on the lower back, and folding the headrest as far as it goes, so that by slightly turning your head left or right it cradles your head. It's gotten me through some stuck in the middle seat flights. If you can score a second pillow and are at a window seat, you can use it to lean on that for some sleep. A couple of flights recently they didn't have pillows at each seat, just the blankets - but they did have them, just had to ask. Wool and cashmere are the best for layers. They don't get stinky as easily, temperature regulate and are light. Big hoodies are comfy but can get too hot and then you have to deal with a heavy bulky item for the rest of the trip.
@eundongpark1672
@eundongpark1672 2 жыл бұрын
same. it's really clear who has experience flying. I used to fly internationally every week for work. Sitting upright with the lower back cushion really is the most comfortable for sleeping in the long run (although I acknowledge it's a tad uncomfortable at first). Why are you the first person I've ever seen talk about bending in the sides of the head cushion? It was a game changer for me when I discovered it. I find many of these types of videos a tad inexperienced (although this video is pretty good). For example, the charging ports *often* don't work (even in business class), so a portable charging bank is essential (good quality, power dense ones can be bought at duty free). And inflight entertainment has gone downhill fast the past few years. You really need to be self-sufficient in entertainment. The biggest mistake I made with doing so much flying was that I never got around to buying noise cancelling head phones. I've tried out a friend's set and they were amazingly effective BUT they were so bulky! I dilly dallied buying my own set because I wasn't sure about the tradeoffs between bulk, price and overall benefit. I think next time I do a an international flight (where keeping my luggage small is not an imperative) I'll look into getting a pair duty free
@blktauna
@blktauna 2 жыл бұрын
I always sit mostly up on the plane and yes that pillow in the lower back makes more difference than people realise. However for us shorter folk the headrest is useless. Alpaca and cashmere are great for layering. You an also bring a pashmina that then folds down to practically nothing.

Putting your carryon bag above or ahead of you is a great tip - but only if the flight attendants stop the passengers who are seated further back from stowing their bags toward the front of the plane. So many times I've had a seat in the front few rows of the plane but found all the overhead space already taken even though few seats are filled with their occupants yet. Great tips - haven't seen the USB plug next to the seat-back screen yet - will have to check that out on my next flight!
@karend1577
@karend1577 Жыл бұрын
I experienced that, too. They board the last rows first. By the time the front rows turn to board, the overhead bin was packed. The flight attendant just watched me struggle to open one bin after another trying to find space. She finally approached me and said she will stow my carryon bag in her storage. Upon landing, I had to wait as everyone deplaned, waiting for her to finally retrieve my bag. After this, I always bring a carry that will fit under the seat in front of me. Unfortunately, recently, I've noticed the aisle and window seats sometimes no longer have a wide foot space, while the middle seat has a very wide space (taking up partial space from both sides of aisle/window.) I had to ask the middle seat person if I can stow my little carry-on in front of them, while pointing to my narrow front feet rest. Fortunately, no one has declined, yet.

The easiest way to tell the difference between the two is that USB A is Bigger and can only be plugged in one way, while USB C is smaller and can be plugged in either way (like Apple's Lightning plug).

Thanks for the tips! Concerning charging while in flight, if I can’t charge directly from an outlet, I carry a fully charged charging station with me to charge from. My next long haul flight will be to Chiangmai (or Bangkok if the price of tickets to Chiangmai is outrageous) when Thailand gets rid of quarantine restrictions for the vaccinated. I’ve noticed checking fares to Chiangmai, they are in the $900-$560 range from LAX (I fly SWA from KC to LAX on points) but occasionally, I’ll see a fare in the $800-$820 range. On checking further, in buying that ticket, you are only allowed one check in bag at 43 pounds (40 kilos). As I’m going to my house in Chiangmai, not having a 2 bag check in and 1 carryon is a deal breaker. I guess I need to check all the fine print before buying a ticket these days!

Also, I carry an empty water bottle with me through security. Many airports have water stations that dispense filtered water and you can fill up your water bottle AFTER you pass through security. You need to guard against dehydration on long flights and the water in the aircraft's tanks may not be the cleanest. (Unless you like the flavor of algae.) Parents should not give their children candy or other sweets before flying.

I am getting ready for a 15.5 hour flight from Chicago to Taipei and bought a microfiber towel for that purpose (as well as having a nice BIG bath towel in case my hotels don't have big ones)

@@delfin7461 Something that surprised me in the UK, the hotel rooms had bath towels and hand towels, but none of them had wash cloths. You might slip in a wash cloth too.

@@neutronjack7399 thanks so much for the tip!, but I am not a wash cloth person -- no need with shower heads that are on a hose (the US seems to be the only place where that isn't a default!) -- Been back in the US for 2 years after living abroad for 17 years and HATE having a fixed shower head :)

If you ever watched airport cleaners clean the free fill your water bottle station you might buy bottled. I saw one wipe down the sink area in the bathroom. She walked out behind me and used same rag on water station. Ewwwww.

In the matter of headphones/earbuds, some airlines do have a two prong setup and so just one doesn't work. There are adaptors available online but you need to pack them with your headphone/earbuds. Another problem with the ones on the plane is that the part that goes in your ear may be too large (I bring my own for just this reason).

Just one thing regarding overhead lockers….many travelers who are seated at the rear of the plane n the first to board have a habit if putting their bigger carryons in the open lockers …so when you come to board much of the space is already taken.😕

one bad flight did me in when i had my roller at my feet and no movement. It took me a long time to figure out i developed a dvt problem. wearing compression socks saved me since then. I think that was around 10 years ago. don't go too tight, it can get uncomfortable that way too.

USB Type C is the newer oval shape plug. USB is the rectangular shaped plug, not a USBC. The little white end is a lightening type.

@kaochao2356 2 жыл бұрын
haha! What you were referring to as USC-A was actually USB-C, and vice-versa. Remember that USB-C is the smaller plug that could plug in any direction, whereas USB-A is the bigger one that can only be plugged one way.
