I carry a plastic grocery bag so I don't have to put trash in the seatback pocket. Gum wrappers, used tissues, used wipes, etc. all goes in the bag during the flight. I allow my seat mates to put their trash in it as well. When the flight attendant comes around to collect trash, it is bagged and ready to go. No more forgotten trash for the next passenger to deal with.

You'd almost think that airlines would start putting liners in those pockets to make it easier for the cleanup crew to clean up and more hygienic and convenient for the next passenger. It might cost a little more but the cost savings and extra bit of class it represents should more than pay off in the long run. They provide toilet seat covers so why not pocket liners?

IN my purse (which is a crossbody bag) I have all vital things attached on lanyards so I don't lose them - wallet, eyeglass case, phone, passport, keys. All the lanyards are clipped to the purse so I can remove any of them if I want to. Same here, but my lanyards are metal jojos with carabiner hooks on both sides. They don't get entangled. For boarding and takeoff as well as prior to landing my phone with ID and Creditcard and some cash goes into a safety waistband . In case of an emergency you'd have to leave all the bags behind.

During Covid I bought two multi pocket gardening vests to replace a purse for long walks and they’ve been wonderful for flying. I fill them with what I need accessible on the flight so don’t have to dig through the personal bag much. I wear the vests under blazers and roomy sweaters when at my destination. So I only bring a little dressy purse for nice evenings out. Otherwise I’m purseless . It’s great freedom and more hidden/secure.

@@mihaelahuban5287 Glad it might be useful for you. There are fancier more expensive multipocketed travel vests which would look dressier for going out or for business meeting trips. My travel is personal so the latter doesn’t apply to me but might be an additional vest option for business attire. Once I’m staying someplace, I don’t need all the travel items so manage with a small wallet in an obscure clothing pocket or small little purse for nice dinners or theater. I use the aforementioned gardening vests for full day escapades and hikes.

Scottevest makes clothing with lots of pockets. I use the same technique of wearing a vest in lieu of carrying a handbag. They also make jackets, pants and other things as well as vests. The vests have hidden pockets sewn into the inside of the vest to thwart pickpockets. Just take it off and throw it onto the conveyor belt when going through security. Well worth it.

I do too. Use them everywhere as it leaves my hands free (unless I am carrying my camera) Duluth vests are great, my husband wears a Scottevest which has that protective shield, and lots of pockets. Both vests have zippered inside pockets where we keep passports. We only take the vests off at airport security where their xray machines can read easilly and in our room. A scarf helps my vest look a bit better, but I accept that I am not a fashion queen... I am NOT quite as vulnlerable

I carry a slim wristlet bag just large enough to take phone, driving license, passport and a credit card. This stays on for the whole flight. Were I ever to be in a crash I could evacuate leaving hand-luggage and still have the basic essentials. If you've got a super-picky airline luggage limit then you can slide it into your personal item when boarding and take it out at the seat. The wristlet bag is also smart enough to double as an evening bag at my destination.

I put my tablet in the outer pocket of my personal item so when I get on the plane, I can easily access it. After security, of course. I pack a fanny pack with all my purse items, wallet, keys, phone, charger. I do not want to be fishing for things during a flight. I used a yellow tulle-like mesh that is uber light weight. It comes on rolls about 4" tall at Walmart, etc. I found a light weight, tough nylon ribbon to reinforce/line the tops of each pocket. I have a small zippered bag that I have for my in-flight necessities; earbuds, lip balm, eye drops, small lotion, meclizine, pen, etc. I looked for one that had some kind of ring where I could add a small carabiner clip. I can usually attach this clip somewhere on the seat back in front of me, often the arm of the tray table. This way my essentials are always in reach but not in the seat back pocket. A variety of Ziplock bags come in handy for a multitude of reasons. I do the exact same thing with carry on bag and personal item bag, keeping things I will need at my seat (liquids, tissues, headphones, etc) in the personal item bag. One tip I learned the hard way: if all of your little pouches are black or dark colored, you will have a hard time finding what you need, especially on a long haul when they turn the lights out. I put bright, colorful stickers on power banks, hard cover electronics cases, etc so I can see them more easily in the bottom of my bags.

After a bad experience landing, which resulted in ear pain and vertigo, a doctor recommended that I take a decongestant or antihistamine during the flight along with using the Ear Planes. This keeps your sinuses clear and helps with maintaining the pressure in your ears. I've used this method since then on dozens of flights, both long and short, and never had had a problem since. FYI- They have Ear Planes sized for children or those with small ear canals.

Thanks for the tip about the EarPlanes. The pain and muffled hearing, usually from descent, is real for me when I fly on smaller aircraft such as A329/320/321s or B727/737s. I paused your video just so I could go order a pair for my upcoming trip. Now here's a tip I'll share: you can fit 4-6 antibacterial wipes into an amber plastic Rx bottle. I've been using them for many years to pack what we need for entire trips -- at a fraction of the price we'd pay for those "travel sized packs" that never really re-seal well. I pack one bottle for the outbound flight, one for each hotel room/cruise cabin, and another for the return flight. The wipes stay perfectly moist (sorry, but the word fits), but don't leak.

Excellent video! A couple of thoughts though from a former biology teacher… If the seat pocket is “germy,” then we’ll pick up germs all over a fabric (porous) “protector” that we’ll then put into our bag. 😳Same for slippers on the nasty floor of the plane. I always cringe when I see people heading to the bathroom in their socks. Some suggest disposable shoe covers (like surgeons wear) that can be discarded rather than sticking germy slippers back in your bag. BTW, Saw a study revealing germs on bottom of shoes and always pack my shoes inside disposable bags. (Fabric shoe bags help but they’re porous.) I save plastic bags that cover toilet paper or that clothes are shipped in or whatever looks like it could serve this purpose. Free is always good but more importantly, it’s a good way to get more mileage before it hits the landfill.

Love your content Nora! And I am actually grateful for all your suggestions and ideas. I have one for you and the community. I put the things I am going to use in the plane (AirPods, book, journal, pen, wipes, tissue, and the like) inside a medium size silicone bag and I place it where the things for us to read are placed (after a very good inspection before placing it there). Also, it is a good idea to bring a Starbucks bag (small and folded) and once at placed all the food and snacks I will eat in the plane), this way, it is not count as “another” personal item 😉 (these two were suggestions by somebody. They are not my own)

I organize my personal item with bags inside for various items, as you suggest. However, I make sure that all the bags are different, rather than all one color as yours are. I know that the blue bag is prescriptions and OTC meds, the red one is electronic chargers and accessories, etc. Much easier to find the bag I want if they don't all look the same.

My problem on most flights is being too warm. In addition to the overhead 'ventilation', I carry a folding fan wherever I go. Any extra layer can be rolled up and put in the small of your back for lumbar support. A smallish (larger than a lunch bag) brown paper bag with handles can carry your snacks, lunch/dinner and beverages aboard without being counted as luggage. Big win!

I have that tray table cover with pockets. Got them for hubby and me for a flight to Europe and they are very thin and so wonderful! The other benefit besides cleanliness is that you aren't likely to forget something in the plane's pocket. I throw them in the wash when we get home or wash them out by hand in the hotel after the trip. Instead of a blanket, I use a light shawl or poncho that can act as a blanket on the plane or keep me warm while out and about.

Tip: you can buy strings which attach to your EarPod tips, so that they sit across the back of your neck. Mine have little magnets at each end which clip my EarPods together to wear like a necklace around my neck, when not fitted into my ears. This stops them popping out of your ears and falling down the loo etc. They’re very cheap to buy. Also I use card luggage labels (attached with string), to all my inner packing bags, so I can find things quicker at my destination. Hope this helps

Hi Nora! Great, informative, to the point video! I just bought one of the seat back pocket organizers off of Amazon which I'll link in a second. It has a strap on the back so you can slide it through the handlebar of your carry-on if need be. Once you open the main flap there is a hanging tab on the top which Amazon shows hooked onto a closed tray table's switch or you could use it to hang on a regular hook butttt the best part is that there are two hooks on either side to hang onto a seat back pocket or possibly a hard plastic pocket some planes have instead of a screen (that was a long sentence). The other listings on Amazon I saw slide or hang off the tray table and reviewers complained that it didn't always fit or you have a tray table that comes out of the armrest or the flight attendants tell you it's not allowed. That last one still might be an issue with the one I purchased but I think the one I bought is a bit more discreet. Mine also buckles closed and has a larger pocket that zips shut. I'm not sure you could fit a large water bottle in mine but the Airplane Pockets one has some other downsides as well. No zipper, or ability to close it. Apparently when the tray table is down it swings into your legs and when it's up it still sags quite a bit which if you're in the middle or aisle might be annoying for your seat partner's bathroom trips. It does cover the tray table, which is a plus, but I can just continue using Clorox wipes. It does roll up nicely but I think I'd just keep my stuff in mine and put it into my personal item as is or on my carry-on. It also kinda doubles as a case for my iPad. Also $30 for Airplane Pockets vs $16 for Nakustab (mine). I haven't used it yet but worst comes to worst it's basically an organizer! Hope this helps in your search! PS I'm sorry if I posted this a million times, KZbin is being wacky on my end!

Great content Nora! You are much more organized than I am (1M+ miles, 26 countries). One thing that I have to take out of my bag at airport pre-screening is my small collapsable umbrella (the folded wires trigger the x-ray unless you put in directly in the bin). I also pack a very lightweight, waterproof windbreaker and use it in my bag to cushion my electronic/photo gear (double-duty item!), And on the flight, I bring a small multi-USB outlet wall charger with a cord to plug into the plane power outlet- you will make friends by offering seat mates easy access to it by the tray tables. Thank you!

I love your videos and have recently shared them with my sister. On another site I heard that a large ziplock bag can be used in the seat pockets to put anything you need access to this way it stays clean. I always wipe everything down with a Clorox wipe and maybe having a small plastic bag to put garbage in would be a good suggestion. Keep the videos coming. ❤ I forgot to mention that I also take a wrap/coverup that I use on the plane and also use at my destination to wear and change up my look.

I use a hanging style washbag for my inflight essentials, as you can hang it on the back of seat in front of you!

On my last flight the tray table was covered in crumbs! Ick! Many of the crumbs were precariously sticking to the back of the seat in front too. Fortunately I had antibacterial wipes with me and I sorted it out as well as the rest of my area for my comfort. Keep up your great content! 😆

Don’t forget to clean both ends of the seat belt clip, often missed by cleaning crew.

Also a must have is AIR TAGS. We use Apple, but I believe there are now android versions available. Absolutely a stress relief to know where your luggage is and in case you leave your bag behind (yep, did that 🤦🏻‍♀️) you can quickly locate it!

Hello, I am new to your channel. I’m so glad I found you. Your tips have just saved me a lot of money 😊. I have a suggestion regarding the water bottle. There are those who have a built in kataden (spelling?) filter in the cap. So you fill up the bottle with water and screw your cap on and then you can drink clean, filtered water. You can also use this to fill up other bottles on the go and you do not have to worry about getting sick. This is commonly used for camping. It’s collapsible and super lightweight. You have to check with the manufacturer about the filter. If you are going too tropical places you might need a different one. Happy travels

Great suggestion - thanks Alex! I'm personally a fan of Water-to-Go bottles that have filters. They're not collapsible though. water-to-go-usa.myshopify.com?sca_ref=4571826.niokjLykdW&sca_source=KZbin

One tip: avoid using black or very dark pouches in your personal bag (or, infact in any of your luggage) it’s so hard to locate items in the ‘sea,of black’ - consider colour coding your pouches …
