I carry a plastic grocery bag so I don't have to put trash in the seatback pocket. Gum wrappers, used tissues, used wipes, etc. all goes in the bag during the flight. I allow my seat mates to put their trash in it as well. When the flight attendant comes around to collect trash, it is bagged and ready to go. No more forgotten trash for the next passenger to deal with.

You'd almost think that airlines would start putting liners in those pockets to make it easier for the cleanup crew to clean up and more hygienic and convenient for the next passenger. It might cost a little more but the cost savings and extra bit of class it represents should more than pay off in the long run. They provide toilet seat covers so why not pocket liners?

@@mihaelahuban5287 Glad it might be useful for you. There are fancier more expensive multipocketed travel vests which would look dressier for going out or for business meeting trips. Once I’m staying someplace, I don’t need all the travel items so manage with a small wallet in an obscure clothing pocket or small little purse for nice dinners or theater. Scottevest makes clothing with lots of pockets. I use the same technique of wearing a vest in lieu of carrying a handbag. They also make jackets, pants and other things as well as vests. The vests have hidden pockets sewn into the inside of the vest to thwart pickpockets. Just take it off and throw it onto the conveyor belt when going through security. Well worth it.

I do too. Use them everywhere as it leaves my hands free (unless I am carrying my camera) Duluth vests are great, my husband wears a Scottevest which has that protective shield, and lots of pockets. Tip for going through Security, I keep either a Largish Sephora bag, or a small cheap drawstring backpack bag for going through Security; I will throw everything in my pockets, Cell phone, wallet, etc. belt, Passport; into the bag before going through the metal detector at airport check points. The bag goes through the x-ray machine as one of the last items I have going through. This lets me go through the metal detector without any issues; and on the other end, all my personal items I keep on myself are in a bag I can grab and restore to their proper places after going through security. I'm not trying to empty out the plastic bin full of coins, keys, and whatnot at the end with my laptop out and backpack out. I can quickly grab my items as they come through the x-ray machine and move off to a less crowded and less bustling place to put on my watch, belt, wallet, etc... and be more relaxed that I have all my stuff.

Excellent video! A couple of thoughts though from a former biology teacher… If the seat pocket is “germy,” then we’ll pick up germs all over a fabric (porous) “protector” that we’ll then put into our bag. 😳Same for slippers on the nasty floor of the plane. I always cringe when I see people heading to the bathroom in their socks. Some suggest disposable shoe covers (like surgeons wear) that can be discarded rather than sticking germy slippers back in your bag. BTW, Saw a study revealing germs on bottom of shoes and always pack my shoes inside disposable bags. (Fabric shoe bags help but they’re porous.) I save plastic bags that cover toilet paper or that clothes are shipped in or whatever looks like it could serve this purpose. Free is always good but more importantly, it’s a good way to get more mileage before it hits the landfill.

Thanks for the tip about the EarPlanes. The pain and muffled hearing, usually from descent, is real for me when I fly on smaller aircraft such as A329/320/321s or B727/737s. I paused your video just so I could go order a pair for my upcoming trip. Now here's a tip I'll share: you can fit 4-6 antibacterial wipes into an amber plastic Rx bottle. I've been using them for many years to pack what we need for entire trips -- at a fraction of the price we'd pay for those "travel sized packs" that never really re-seal well. I pack one bottle for the outbound flight, one for each hotel room/cruise cabin, and another for the return flight. The wipes stay perfectly moist (sorry, but the word fits), but don't leak.

Me, a guy, I'm old school. I travel with a light rain jacket (with multiple pockets, more on that in a sec). I also have my laptop bag (personal item) with my noise-cancelling headphones. My carry-on is the max size allowed, and carry the usual. The old school thing (fashion sense) is my fanny bag. I carry what's absolute essential there, including passports, wallets (one per country), keys, hard drives, glasses, phones, etc. My reasoning is if there's an emergency and we need to leave things behind, the fanny bag never leaves me. The personal item bag might need to be left behind. When I go thru security, I empty my pockets into the jacket zippered pockets, so hopefully I'm metal free when I reach the trays. One thing I'd recommend to look into it, if possible, for the personal item bag is to be able to hook onto the wheeled carry-on but at the bottom "rear", so when it's being pulled across the airport (this is if the carry-on is a two-wheeler), the weight of it is on the other side of the wheel axis and counters the weight of the carry on inclined forward. Just like the airline crew does it. Your wrists will thank you.

I have the AirPocket that fits over the tray table, and love it. I put stuff in it beforehand, and fold it over itself, making its own “pouch”. I was told that it can’t be on the tray table during take-off and landing, so I keep it by my side during take-off, then just slip it over the tray table. Almost everything I need during the flight is right there (book, AirPods, snacks, sanitizing wipes, etc.)

My husband and I have AirPockets as well. Im surprised you had to wait until after take off to put it on. We just got back from a trip with 5 different flights. We put our AirPockets on right after we boarded and not one flight attendant said anything. Well if it happens to us I guess i won’t be surprised! Last month we were on a different trip and several flight attendants noticed and loved our AirPockets and even took pictures so they could order one.

Hello, I am new to your channel. I’m so glad I found you. Your tips have just saved me a lot of money 😊. I have a suggestion regarding the water bottle. There are those who have a built in kataden (spelling?) filter in the cap. So you fill up the bottle with water and screw your cap on and then you can drink clean, filtered water. You can also use this to fill up other bottles on the go and you do not have to worry about getting sick. This is commonly used for camping. It’s collapsible and super lightweight. You have to check with the manufacturer about the filter. If you are going too tropical places you might need a different one. Happy travels

Good call on the clip-on flashlight! I have a small one on. my keychain that is USB rechargeable, but to tell the truth I often forget I have it! Also, I adore solid shampoo & conditioner (and other solid toiletries); I've used them for years.

Nice tips! Try packing a personal item ag for TAP Air Potugal. Carry-on size & weight.

Great tips! I carry a travel pack of alcohol-based sanitizer wipes, to clean my tray table and arm rests. They have so many uses.

I agree! Always a good idea to have some wipes handy.

Great information Nora. I’ve watched a few of your videos and I find nuggets I can add to my prior travel experiences for future travel in each one.

Great content, as always, Nora! Got my collapsible water bottle & headed to Croatia at the end of March. This is just my 3rd time leaving the states & I’m already getting anxious about the trip. I pray the destination is worth it! 😬

I understand your anxiousness! Believe it or not, before a big trip I STILL get nervous! It's all good. Enjoy your new water bottle! I hope you love it as much as I do :-)

On my last flight the tray table was covered in crumbs! Ick! Many of the crumbs were precariously sticking to the back of the seat in front too. Fortunately I had antibacterial wipes with me and I sorted it out as well as the rest of my area for my comfort. Keep up your great content! 😆

Good call with the wipes, Jane! I too have encountered some thoroughly messy seats.

Don’t forget to clean both ends of the seat belt clip, often missed by cleaning crew.

This was a great video. You gave me some great tips and I've purchased some of the things you mentioned because it made a lot of sense, especially on long flights or just things to have that make travel better and more enjoyable. Very well stated and much appreciated. Thank you Professional Hobo. Now if you could only tell me how to jump into those rail cars at my age and weight, that would be golden!

Thank you so much! And...funny "hobo" reference. Not everybody catches that one. (I'm also a total nut for long-distance train travel). :-)

Nora, we have recently become carryon only travelers! However, we are traveling on the Queen Mary 2 transatlantic for our 50th wedding anniversary and I can’t see us going only carry on with dress up fun items. Suite, cocktail dresses, a couple of shoes. Thinking another carryon size suitcase for check in as well as our suitcases (carryon) and 2 personal bags. Thoughts? Love your way of presenting! God bless!

If I were going on a special cruise like that, I would also want to check a bag! I think you've earned it ;-)

We will also be on the queen mary for our 47th anniversary and my husband’s birthday? Are you traveling July 4th out of New York? We could be friends.
