Portal Ending, but with Portal 2 GLaDOS

This is the current state of my work on porting the Portal 1 ending to Portal 2, alongside making the necessary changes for it to match Portal 2's artstyle.

Since I last uploaded about this project (almost exactly 1 year ago!) I have been working on actually getting the map to work inside of Portal 2, as opposed to how it was in the original version. This has created plenty of bugs that you can see in the video, such as some of the cores not working properly and the rocket turret only firing in one direction.
As I am not skilled enough to take this project farther, nor do I have the passion to continue tweaking it, I plan to upload this version to the Portal 2 workshop once I iron out some minor issues with dialogue. As such, this will likely be my last video on this project.
As for the future of this channel, I hope to continue uploading / working on Portal/Half-Life related mods, but I also want to expand out into other things as well (mostly related to Valve games). As I know that many of you subscribed to this channel for this project alone, I wanted to include this here so that you are not waiting forever for a video that will never come out.
I will be sure to include a download link to the map once it is uploaded to the Portal 2 workshop, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

It’s weird because despite having played Portal multiple times I never noticed that her original design didn’t look the way it did in the 2nd game? Honestly my personal headcanon is that the “head” seem in the first game is an outer shell, and the head seen in the second game is without that shell

This makes you realise just how different Portal 1 and 2 were. 1 had the classical charm of an 90s research facility with all its cheap cement and massive metal structures. 2 was like a future documentary showing us giant mechanical nets of hydraulic plates and the absolute emptiness that is Aperture Science and its tunnels.

When I play portal 1 I always feel like someone else than Glados is talking. I mean portal 1 glados is literally just looking down at the floor and swinging forwards and backwards. So I really appreciate the mod. The only thing that would do it better would be if she could turned around to keep focus on Chell

I actually really want to do this, but it is much harder to do because of the unique animations for things like the wakeup sequence. I'm not a 3D modeller/animator, so idk how well I could make it work.

Well also the portal 2 GLaDOS is much larger than the Portal 1 GLaDOS, so that would ruin the effect too Edit: Also, I've looked at the Portal 1 model before and noticed that the eye cant move like the portal 2 model can, and that just makes the character a lot less expressive

This is SOO much better than Portal 1's model, or even that one mod that slightly updates her "face." One thing you should definitely make note of though, is that GLaDOS canonically updates her appearance *during* Portal 2. During the waking-up scene, her body is not only broken, but actually looks more like her old self; She has some gray parts where there's usually black, and hydraulic pistons in place of electric servos. Her "arms" are white too, but one's almost entirely gone. I would love to see the "broken" model get fixed up and used instead, as it would be lore friendly and look more like the original, while still being the updated look.

Hey, bit of an Idea if you're still working on this: GLaDOS should be limp and immobile like in Portal 1 until you destroy the Morality Core, at which point she briefly spasms and then switches to her more expressive Portal 2 animations.

This looks pretty nice. Just a little suggestion, maybe could you try to incorporate some of the detail shown in Portal 2, like the hacthes on the floor for the core connector and transfer sequence or the stairs behind the incinetator, or the door where Wheatley and Chell arrives in Portal 2. Also, I think the cores should be attached in the same way as Wheatley's boss battle, but i'm sure It should be easy to fix

Wheatley isn't the intelligence core. Wheatley was an intelligence dampening core. He was detached from GLaDOS and repurposed many years before the events of Portal 1. Before GLaDOS killed all the scientists.

Yeah, some of the models in escape_02 (namely the glados destruction ones) don’t work well with portal 2 for whatever reason so I had to remove those from the vmf and recompile the map

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Valve isnt going to remaster Portal 1 any time soon. I'd recommend checking out the fan mod "Alive and Kicking" as its the closest you will get to that (Valve even gave them engine access, which is a sort of unofficial endorsement)

Gladys is actually exactly the same in both games but during portal 1 she was being held down and stopped from moving but in the second game she had been freed from everything holding her down. She also couldn’t leave or change the room she was in because it wasn’t made completely out of panels like in portal 2 it’s only one solid room.

Same, Portal 2 downgraded a lot of the particle effects for whatever reason with no way to restore them outside of the source code. Guessing console ports might be to blame for the graphical downgrades as much as the controls being dumbed down.

If by "making of" you mean explain how this was done, I will provide the vmf whenever I release this project (which at this point, I really don't know when that will happen.) Here's my very rudimentary explanation if it helps: 1) Using a vmf of the original escape_02 map, I opened it up in Portal 2 and replaced the GLaDOS model with the one from Portal 2, changing the logic so that it would trigger the new Portal 2 animations rather than the Portal 1 ones. 2) I then replaced all textures with Portal 2 counterparts, this is very easy to do and only took me an hour at most. 3) You then have to import all of the vcd's from Portal 1 into Portal 2, which has proven to be much more difficult than I thought and the primary reason for my delay on the release of this project.

So there's the remastered half life called black mesa, guess this is aperture science? Eh, it doesn't really fit. You do whatever. Can't wait to try it it looks great needs a bit of work like animations and attaching the cores to GLaDOS and her clipping through the stairs but overall it's great. I'd recommend adding the announcer for the sarcasm self test and neurotoxin
