Not too uncommon for multiple rooms and set pieces to be placed in the same map in game development. It makes it easier to place assets in new areas for cutscenes and stuff. Example: Just above the cake room is the surface/parking lot scene where it places you after beating GlaDOS, only to be dragged back down soon after.

When I did this, the claw didn't move the cube, and instead got stuck. This softlocked the game and the credits never played lol! It's so funny to me that the credits only start after the claw successfully puts out the flame, instead of just being on a timer. I guess it was easier to program it that way

Nevermind my previous statement, I figured it out. Also, for anyone using the PC version of the game, when trying to get back inside the map, using the method in this video of dropping onto the top of the rooms from that high spot doesn't work. I tried multiple times and ended up stuck out of the map every time, so what I did instead was get to the area before the bridge that leads to the room you portal bump out of, and when you're there, above the map, use the trick used for getting into the cake room, with one portal on a vertical surface and the other on the ground in front of it. It took me a while of jumping in and waiting, getting knocked out then jumping in again before it kicked me back inside the map, but it was an alternative that worked.

Funny, I used the video's method of getting back in bounds, even with the getting stuck issue. I just peek portals around the map, then finally, where they bump the portal back in bounds, I was left floating with my back to a wall. But if you turn around and portal the wall behind you, you'll fall into it. For some reason, you get your physics back if you place a portal near yourself when stuck.

What lovely bullshit rationalizations. Exploiting ANY means outside of standard gameplay is cheating. Get over it. When you put (without cheats) on your video and then exploit the programming, you are mislabeling your video. That didn't fly in the Nintendo Power era. Just because you guys want to justify playing with the game programming and not be called cheaters, doesn't mean that isn't the very definition of cheating at a game. Now, there isn't anything wrong with exploiting cheats and bugs (after you've beaten a game legitimately the first time.) It's the room for the ending cutscene, that shows the cake. Without the room, the ending cutscene wouldn't exist either.

I've been trying this in my PC version of the game, and it works mostly, except sometimes when I jump through my portal I pop back out, hovering in midair and unable to move. I can still look around and shoot portals, but I can't get back in them and I have to reload the safe file and try again. I haven't actually made it all the way to the cake room yet, because I keep getting stuck like this in random spots. Am I doing something wrong maybe? Other than whatever I'm doing wrong, this video is wonderful, and very easy to follow once I figured out what portal bumping was lol, so thanks for posting this. Otherwise I never would have known that getting to the cake room was an actual feasible thing.

Look at about 0:05 the portal gun has a different texture it also is metalic, then the companion cube has a green heart, either this is a really weird easter egg or a special portal map

If you never played it, get it, it's thoroughly worth the time. It only takes 1-2 hours to beat anyways, speed runners have done it in 15 (with glitches).
