I’ve found that in my life when I don’t choose the “the full choice” as you put it, or even the right choice at all, there’s an even deeper part of me that I have to literally quiet down, block out, and ignore, which yearns for me to do the things that are actually consistent with what I want for myself. And when I meditate on this, a lot of the times I realize that what seems to be the easy thing (not doing, not making the full choice) is actually the hard thing. It’s just not usually obvious because I pay the price over the course of the rest of my life in the form of self-resentment.

One helpful idea I've learned about making decisions is killing all other possibilities once the choice is made. In other words, cultivating the ability to not look back once you make a choice, and wonder what would have happened had you picked differently. This can be done inside oneself - by trying to put the other options out of one's mind. But it can also be done outside oneself - by burning the bridges that would enable you to go back on the choice you have made. In this way, you always look forward and go with your choices into the future without second thoughts. It's not an easy habit to build, but for me, it is a useful one.

choosing doing something that you don't want to do at the moment makes it easier to do at a later time , not choosing something that you want to do is a superpower. Loved your talk with Andrew I hope you will do another.

Resistance is a fierce mirror, revealing the hidden fractures in our will-and through those cracks, aligned choice can enter. This practice is not merely about forcing action, but training the depth of alignment within each choice. Can we fully choose without unraveling the layers of resistance that obscure our true intent? If resistance becomes a sacred catalyst rather than an enemy, then “I must” can transmute into “I am,” and the boundary between willpower and surrender dissolves. In that alchemy, choice is no longer divided, but whole, and freedom emerges from the very friction that once held us back.

Non Violent Communication helps a lot to understand how we take choices and why we do things when we feel that we "have to". In fact we always have a choice and we always choose according to our needs. And yes, if we want to change something, it will always require a kind of practice. 🙏

Like any other system in the body, I only notice the "system of choosing" when it doesn't work fluently. Let's take the knee as an example, I don't notice my knee as long as it's working, I start noticing it when I have pain, when it doesn't work properly. Every day there are hundreds (if not thousands) of choices that we make, most of them go unnoticed. It is only in points of dilemma, points in which different parts of me want different things that I notice the point of choice. Here comes the real challenge, how can I listen to all my inner voices? How do I prioritize the voice that is most valuable for that given choice? It may sound corny, but usually there would be a voice that represents fear and one that represents love. I pray to have the courage to choose love, but it's not always the case.
