Love that you are doing the clone wars! I have built two parts kits clones a 440 and 372. The 440 was my first one and really taught me a lot and got me into building. For the price and the fun you get, I think they are great! They are so fun to mess with and try out porting and mods without breaking the bank or feeling guilty for screwing something up.

No kidding. These would be pretty fun to play with. Blowing up a $1000+ saw isn't something I can even consider, but a $250 saw I won't be broken hearted about.

Loving these videos, testing different items to see what actually produces power. My 13 and 14-year-old boys have just gotten into porting, and this is super helpful. Thanks!

Good work Joe. I love watching and learning what little tweaks do to change the power. Very interesting. She sounds much better than that first pull.

It should pull an 8 pin sprocket ok. I have a different brand of chinese 372. All i did was a gasket delete, opened up the lower transfer ports but not as high as you went and then took a bit off the bottom of the exhaust port so it was level with the top of the piston at bottom dead center. Did a muffler mod similar to yours and it pulls an 8 pin sprocket with a 24 inch bar no problems at all. I havent touched the timing but have thought about it.

Very cool Joe, I'll try a advance on one of mine now!
@kylecromp319 Жыл бұрын
Joe run an 8 pin that saw will easily run it. You have machining tools so you have a huge advantage there. I built one with only porting and base gasket delete and it still had a terrible squish clearance I believe it was around 40 tho. I timed several runs between a 7 and 8 pin and the 8 won by a pretty substantial amount.

You could get some spark plugs indexing washers to shim out the plug a little if necessary.

First video of yours I've watched. You Tube algorithm recommend it. Around 30 years ago, two stroke tuning was much better known by various racers, motorcycle, snowmobile and boat with larger motors making 50~200bhp from 125~750cc motors (and more when cooling available on boat motors running around 80 deg C) Seems the chainsaw guys are the only people doing it nowadays? What is the capacity of the motor? Does it relate to model number ? (eg, 372 is 72cc?)

Can you show how you check ignition timing on a saw? I’ve always just used a timing wheel to see how much cutting the key advanced it and then just going by feel of how it did….but I’d like to see like actual timing numbers with a light? Like to see where it’s firing? The reason I ask is I have heard these clone 372s are having some poor ignition timing where as in the past these 372s are kinda known for not needing ignition timing advanced. Vs for example a 272 you almost always can get some gains by cutting the key .030 or .020

@@chrismuncey3861 30-35 seems to be pretty common, but you can try a bit more advance and see if it likes it. It will pop and stuff if you go too far.

@dynojoemods2764 I'll try it and see how it does. One more question I have a g660 and I'm thinking about trying a big bore kit. Are there any tricks to them?. I've seen a lot about them running like crap and some good.

Ooh ooh, JOE TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE TIMING ADVANCE! how many degrees? Did you cut the key way wider in the correct direction and shove 2 keys in there? Or weld it in and cut a new keyway? My ooold 372xp, hozzlforma, I ported very mildly, piped it with uncle harve pipe out of anodized aluminum pipe, and big bored, pop up, still seems like it's got a lot more to offer

What would be a hot fuel I could use on a firewood saw? 100cc
@dynojoemods2764 Жыл бұрын
Can try more octane and a timing advance. But fuel alone won't change power output dramatically.

Why did the torque go down?
@dynojoemods2764 Жыл бұрын
Part of that could have been the saw was way more heat soaked than normal. But it isn't super high compression with the higher exhaust roof either.

I want to build a Husqvarna 372 from original parts but with a Farmertec crankcase from Polaris. What do you think about a non-original crankcase?
@nickchauvin799 күн бұрын
I’ve built 2 Saws with farmertec crank cases. Stihl 046 and 044. I’ve been running both for about couple years and haven’t had any issues. The 044 I put a hyway crank, jug and piston. The 046 I used oem parts out of another saw that got smashed

I'm confused as to how an assembly that goes up and down affects the balance of an assembly that goes round and round. (On a single cylinder unit)
@dynojoemods2764 Жыл бұрын
The counter weight on the crankshaft has to counteract the forces of the up and down weight. In a single cylinder you cannot achieve a perfect balance, but you can balance for a certain rpm range. Where the forces cancel out most of the harmful vibrations. But it is only effective in a short rpm window.
@mikezupancic2182 Жыл бұрын
@dynojoemods2764 thank you. I was aware of how a rotating assembly in a V8 for example would need to be balanced, but I couldn't understand how a single cylinder would be affected.
