What I've noticed is that, to gain 3db or more from the subs in a ported enclosure. You need an enclosure that's ridiculously large. As in like 2x larger. I prefer sealed honestly. My 12s are in a sealed enclosure.

Small sealed box for cars, large ported box for home theater 👍 Yes, they're usually 2x as large😂
@johnnycorn72253 жыл бұрын
This agrees with the iron law that of course more space makes more Bass. I've always loved triple or quadruple sealed setups because you can fit twice the drivers in the same amount of air space while maintaining a tighter more accurate sound that has more impact. I'm actually headed out to the garage right now to start building my sealed enclosure for three 12-in stereo integrity SQL 12s. They are the best deal out there by a mile if you want ultra high performance xbl2 motor sealed subwoofer setups. Ported can move a lot of air sure but you're never going to get that blur your eyeballs Hammer to the chest at a concert perfect drums feeling out of them.

@evilinside5984Ай бұрын
Thats not on a Term Lab= new style pressure sensor type SPL meter. I had a walled 2-15" Power Hx2 Rockfords, with 2-Bd 1500s strapped, & I hit a 164Db on the old style SPL meter back then. When i ✔ it later on, with a New Term Lab meter, it only did a 149.9Db to my surprise= the new meter showed over 14 Db Less👀, everything was the same, metering positioning, subs, enclosure, amps, wiring, batteries(6 Qty.) & 1 alternator. Now to be fair, the old Audio Control meters could be manipulated by +, or - 10 Db with a knob. But even when calibrated properly, these old SPL meters lost there calibration very quickly, making them very inconsistent @ best. Not to mention that + or - 10 Db knob that i have seen used to cheat scores during a competition to make a fellow friend or competitor score "Louder", then turn the knob back down, to be able to win! These new Term Lab meters can NOT be manipulated/changed, to prevent cheating. Sorry if this hurts your feelings, but your 157.5 Db score would probably be about a 143Db to 145Db on the Term Lab SPL meter, which was not used in 2001 yet.

This question might have been asked and answered already in the comment thread but..Would you say in a music listening scenario instead of a db scenario, the sealed gives a better ,tighter, accurate bass response and is worth the loss of 1 plus some change db?? Thanks if you feel like answering! 👍🙏
@johnnycorn72253 жыл бұрын
Since nobody answered I will I absolutely know that the flatter response and better transient response of sealed makes it far superior for me but then again I'm a 46 year old musician that's been a lot of time on a metronome. Also the earthquake reproduction characteristic of sealed where it literally displaces a section of air in your vehicle that is heaven and a ported does not do this it just fans around a whole bunch of air from the port and sub. It never has that instant earthquake shock type impact to it and I like that.

You've probably gone on to a different setup by now, but I wonder what your air speed is in those ports. They might be compressing your output. Also, porting increases the volume at a specific frequency, so it's not necessarily 'supposed' to be +3dB everywhere in the range. Your port tuning and your listening area's tuning are two very different things.

Roughly 100 cubic inches for a cylinder 4x8 or 0.058 cubic feet added to the sealed volume per side so 2.558 cf sealed vs 2.5 cf ported would technically be more accurate. Those 650 mosfets were beast amps! Yes, if properly designed a ported enclosure can perform just as accurate as a sealed enclosure, it all depends on design and proper construction.

I got nostalgic watching this. Last time I saw 2 Punch Power DVC 15s I installed them in a navigator, custom box with mirrors inside using Aeroports pushed by an Orion HCCA 250. It was humping!

Wanting to know more about your setup. I got the same DVC 15s sealed but trying to still find RF amps to match. Are you running at 1ohm or 2ohm. Any upgrades to charging system so on.tia

Can the old school fosgate 2 channel amps like 700s, 800.2 and the 4 channel power 400.4 be bridged and each channel ran at 2 ohms? I chatted with Rockford fosgate, and they said no, 4 ohm minimum per channel on those amps bridged. Thanks
@txroaddogg17096 жыл бұрын
Rockford technicians are not gonna tell u what those amps are really capable of. The are stable at 2 ohm. U can even run them at 1 ohm but they are not stable. Will heat up real quick and u will burn it up if ur not capable. I run mines at 2 ohm all day long and have never had a problem
@E4EonEbay5 жыл бұрын
I have ran my power 1100a2 amps at 2 ohms mono all day long, if fed properly, keeping your voltage high and stable they don't heat up too much. I have even ran them in short bursts at 1 ohm mono for competitions and they have held up and not died on me.

Man I want the bass I didn't hear I really only felt it then noticed it from the windows of this Tahoe looking like Jello. I want this but I don't want to love all my space and shovel out tons of cash. Is it possible to get that from small and affordable?
@ChryslerScorpionau5 жыл бұрын
Mate. Every 3 DB gain is double the Power. To get 1.5 DB gain is great stuff and half power more for free
@E4EonEbay5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! I should do a video using the meter to illustrate the gains from doubling power, I would want to clamp the amps or use an SMD Amm1 to show a power read out to confirm the power is doubled, would make a cool video.

he did this with equal size boxes the numbers wont change much or any if he removed the port. to get a bigger number from the ported box you would have to go bigger which is a whole different animal but for apples to apples this is a great video ..i have 9 15s i plan to use in a build and i want to go sealed just for the space savings all the subs inverted
@E4EonEbay2 жыл бұрын
I know most subs require a larger enclosure when going ported however according to the manual the optimal recommended enclosure size for both sealed or ported for these drivers is 2.5cf. Thanks for watching

I understand the loudness... But, how does the SOUND vary between sealed and ported with regular music?!! Does one hit harder than the other?
@ze_german29216 жыл бұрын
I have 3ea. RFR2210’s, do you think 3 10’s would be as loud or powerful than 2 15’s? I plan on running a BD1500 amp with it as well
@E4EonEbay6 жыл бұрын
ZGERMAN enclosure and final ohm load the amp sees would be a factor, i have four rfr2210 myself. They are beastly subs.

I’ve been lookin all over but I’m trying to see if anybody has ran both sealed and ported boxes at the same time ? .. I’ve done it before in my mustang ... ported 12s in the trunk facing tag .. and the sealed box was right behind it facing the cabin poking out through the back seat! It made my windshield flex ! I was using a 2400 watt mono block Lanzer

I'd like to see the dB reading at 20-25hz sealed vs ported. I'm interested to see which will hit harder on the low frequencies. Great video.
@E4EonEbay5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm assuming if the ported side were tuned low enough it could be quite interesting to see. I did do a video showing the excursion side by side playing 20hz - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX7NgZ16nZmVgZY

If the ported box is Tuned right. It vil be louder at Lower frequencies.
@apc27294 жыл бұрын
Sealed has almost flat response over Low frequencies. If you have a powerful amp and a subwoofer, go for sealed for hard hitting bass

I feel like every young persons first setup, “including myself” had a somewhat old school system. Gotta appreciate the old equipment. If a girl came up to me and said she was doing 145+ with some punches I woulda called BS 😂

What do you expect it to look lie? Look at the wiring you can see. It's awful, and borderline dangerous. I wouldn't let my daughter drive a half-a$$ed system like that. You can save money, but still install thing with pride. This system is as sloppy as I've seen.
@hippo-potamus4 жыл бұрын
Does the bass feel "smoother" when sealed and more "boomy" when ported? Or is that difference also negligible?
@E4EonEbay4 жыл бұрын
notes are slightly more boomy, but depending on how the box is designed a ported enclosure can sound better than a sealed in my opinion. Thanks for watching and commenting.
