To really get it accurate, get a mill table. I clamped that onto the plate.

Interesting. I just bought the same press and the table is made differently now. It's no longer a drop in. The tilt joint is cast into the rear of the table and that comes assembled on the column piece.

Just bought this and set it up a few minutes ago. Laser was right on the money as was in this video. However when running this is a very noisy machine as the top vibrates badly. I put a few dust rags to dry to dampen the noise and that helped. I am sorry I bought this machine. I should have kicked in a few hundred dollars more and gotten a better model. Anyone want to buy mine? I paid $500 for it. You can have it for four.

I have one and it’s worked very well. Occasionally the chuck will loosen up and I need to bang it back in. Strange that it happens but for the money it’s worth putting up with it. The next thing I’ll add to mine is a speed chuck - no key tightening. Thanks for your vid.

I've had mine about 2 years, its been great for me, you'll enjoy it. I waited until it was on sale at Lowe's. One thing I noticed in your video is the quill doesn't return all the way back up. It took about a year for mine to start doing that, but its an easy fix. Pop the plastic cover off the left side of the feed lever and slightly loosen the nuts on that side so that is isn't binding. It stumped me for many months until my grandfather came and looked at it and told me what to do. After he told me, it became so obvious, haha. I put mine on a mobile base, which made it more stable since the base is so small and makes cleaning up behind it easier, and also added a plywood table.

From what I can see this is made in china by same company has a few others offered with slight variances of features. This is much like the Ridgid new press with lazer but not the same chuck.

Thank you for the video. I bought mine from Lowes (of course using the 10% new move discount) and started assembling mine. After about an hour of reading and re-reading the manual, I started my KZbin search for an instructional video. Yours was the first one that I saw and it was great. I was having trouble understanding the part of the instructions that said to push the chuck and spindle arbor up into the spindle until the tang is engaged and locked in the inner slot. I wasn't sure how to "engage and lock" it. I'm still not clear on that part but it looks like in your video that you pushed it up and tapped it in with your mallet (6:21). I did what you did and it seems to work. I really like this drill press. The one thing I hate and want to replace is the plastic crank handle. I don't understand why Porter Cable went with everything metal with the exception of the crank handle. Thanks again for the video.

I got mine about 9 years ago. I had to set up the laser which requires taking the whole section apart! Why didn't they just put a few knobs on the outside to adjust it? And the laser stayed in the correct position about 2 weeks! It was such a pain to adjust I just blew it off and haven't used it since. Just as easy to lower the bit down to the work piece and make a small depression where you want it to be. Then clamp the wood down and drill away. I also made a rolling table for it with 2 flip up wood supports and a much bigger support table for the work piece with a sliding fence for clamps. Got the plans on the web somewhere.

how did you get the table arm on without removing the plastic

I have the same one and really like it BUT how do you get the table to pivot? It seems to have the ability to do it but I only see an obscure nut in the front that might be the only way to set the degree of angle..... thoughts?

First time I turned it on the entire chuck and adapter fell out... should I smack in in harder or is there some trick to aligning "something" inside the arbor?

I just bought the same drill press. Quick question for you. I can't get the Table and Arm to swing around the column so it's completely out of the way. Does the Track and Arm & Table assembly move around the column as one big piece and the Track moves inside the the top collar and bottom base collar? (I tried talking to Prter Cable tech support.. but they were useless and told me to call a repair center) Thanks, Jay

+jayhitek All set. I found out the collar at the top of the column was installed improperly and wouldn't let the rack move.

+jayhitek I ran into the same problem. Your comment saved me from pulling my hair out trying to figure out why the table was offset. Thanks!
