Thank you Rishabh for this opportunity. A very informative and a constructive video summarising the aspects from a hiring point of view and otherwise. Glad and honoured that Viviano reviewed the works and provided his valuable comments based on so many years of experience.

Great editing ! Like Rishabh mentioned there's a lot more material/discussion! I´d definitely look into the full video if you are in the process of elaborating your portfolio!

There is actually a setting in adobe acrobat preferences that lets you save the document so that anyone who opens it reads the way you want it. Like, it opens the cover page only and then it continues only with double pages. And of course closes with just the back cover.

Very interesting, Viviano's insights are useful. It would be nice to see also portfolio reviews for higher positions, we are always talking mainly about junior positions, where the software skills are more relevant.

he lost me at " we care about what you can do not what you are thinking". That statement throws out the key to seeing the difference between a great architect and a great renderer. If all you see is output from the students in the sense of drawings then all you see is their software capabilities, which is not how great architects are created.
@alejandro68233 жыл бұрын
I don't think he meant it quite like that, because of course for an architect what you think is the fundament of your work, but the portfolio is a visual presentation of your work, so too much text just doesn't work with the format
@ICBRetro3 жыл бұрын
@@alejandro6823 you're dumb. He meant exactly what he said. That's why there is an argument about it. Nobody says that by accident or without meaning it lol

i agree with you n its pretty clear that priority is given to those who have the most graphic or software skills bcuz obvsly they are the best 'toolkits' to buy but then again if u think about it your graphics are the only means of true communication u can provide through ur portfolio n it serves u well if u can tell ur project story through it .specially having the skill of making it easily understood, AND interesting enough to invest on ... so i guess his judgment no matter how biased is still useful for an architect to consider. don't u think?

I had a question to ask, is it okay to add Competiton spreads in the portfolio? there's obviously a question of legibility. comparatively, if we have more good work in competition than academic projects and as we have to limit the size of the portfolio to make it compact and bold at the same time so the maximum number of projects we should put is 6 mentioned in the video but is it okay to consider competitions in those 6?

I dont agree with showing a photo of your face on a portfolio. Human instinct kicks in and will no doubt be veered away from judging by the actual work submitted.

I found the information conflicting and honestly a little depressing. I would hope that there would be another video to really clarify some of the things that were said in this video. I say this because I also really love OMA and hope to work for them in the future. As architects/architectural designers are we not looked at for our skills as architectural designers but as technical machines? It seems a little backwards to be functioning off of the idea that concept ( as in conceptual THINKING) can be taught but technical skills cannot be learned or improved on the job. Yet while saying this, Viviano's favorite portfolio had the least technical skills. Yes the portfolio was beautiful and demonstrated graphic and illustrator skills, but actually she demonstrated the least competency with newer technologies (which seem to be the it factor). In fact, her portfolio even showed better conceptual thinking than the others. I'm more like her but think I need to be more like the other people to get a job that actually allows me to design. In my experience good designer = good design technologist. Is this true? Because it seems like it though not by your choice of portfolio. I'm hoping for a straight answer
