I've done a fair amount of porting, as per David Vizard's teaching. The best cutting fluid I've found for the burr is Sthil bar and chain oil. It clings to the cutter very well, and prevents clogging even with a fine burr on aluminum. I dip it in the oil, then hold it in the port and give it a quick spin. This spreads the oil through the port. And when used for this application the cost is almost nil.

I can't get with using an oil. Its messy and smells.
@GroovesAndLands Жыл бұрын
@@headgames I need to give the Boelube a try. I've tried every oil, wax and paste I could think of and they all make a terrible mess...nothing like a slurry of oily chips collecting right where you need to see/feel the shape you are forming. My current technique is to run her dry, and just take it easy to avoid generating enough heat to allow the aluminum to begin smearing into the burr.

I've done a fair amount of porting myself and am impressed you never once chattered the bit around the port using that electric Makita wide open. I found an air grinder to be far more forgiving.
@headgames Жыл бұрын
Because of the burrs we made it doesn’t chatter. Super controllable and moves material fast.

Thank you for sharing. Can I do some "minor" porting such as this to improe the flow of my head? Or is it a case of, you have to also do the pocket & short side radius to have any benefit? or does a little bit help? Also do all the ports need to be the exact same volume? Ie you have to remove exactly the same amount of material from each port? or it doesnt really matter as its more about the way the air flows? Thanks again, i really like these videos teaching the tech & theory behind things!

@mv6160 Жыл бұрын
@@headgames Would there be any benefit if that was done with just a pocket port?
@headgames Жыл бұрын
Then it would be a full port not a pocket port. Pocket port is just the area under the valve seat and short side radius. The runner is left alone and the this vid has what would be the full port if we finished it. There’s no benefit in doing just half of the runners. (I used the word runners to describe the rest of the port )

measuring all of them then taking them all to that biggest size, plus the cleaning the heads up, will help way more than people think. that's why people over do head work. we Americans are the worse, thinking bigger is always better.
