I was raised and lived in Portland for 29 years. I actually just moved to LA for a career change. Portland isn't as small as many people think. According to Wiki, it has more people than Atlanta, Miami, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Long Beach, etc. When my family moved there in '86 from Maryland, it was for sure a smaller city. The population has exploded ever since Portland was ranked the best place to live. And it is a great place to live if you have a family. Low crime, clean, cheaper cost of living, good public schools, and no sales tax (but high property tax). If you're single however, it might not be the best place to live unless you're one of those pot smoking types. Oregon just legalized marijuana for recreational use. Since the population has risen dramatically, the traffic is horrendous. It is on par with larger cities. The city has been doing a lot of reconstruction of roads but it can't keep up with the many people moving in. Portland also rains A LOT.

Live in Portland; would never consider living anywhere else! We've got coastline, deserts, rainforest, volcanoes, mountains, lakes, arctic tundra, canyons, lava flows, waterfalls, rivers, glaciers, caves, sub-alpine meadows, wetlands, and pine forests, just to name a few. And most of all that is located on public land! We are lucky to have so much public land and wilderness available for us to enjoy. And since we are located right at the Washington border, we also have access to some of Washington's best natural scenery, including places like Mt. St. Helens, Mt Rainier, the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands, Gifford Pinchot, North Cascades, and the Olympic coast. And our city is incredibly green and environmentally conscious, too, with some of the best public transport systems in the whole U.S.

MC K . Weather is practically identical. Portland gets about 5 days more rain per year, on average, than Seattle. Portland is also a lot greener and more forested, but Seattle has much more water and bay access. Nobody mention that we love biking so much that we have bike police and they even go to schools to teach kids about proper locking. We also have lots of peaceful bike trails. I think one of the best parts is that even though theres a lot of construction going on right now, you dont really have to worry about traffic if you just use your phone for maps and take the max or bus, it is so easy, so inexpensive and it goes all over Portland! Even though there are a lot of homeless people, I've never had an incident that's been disruptive, I once talked to a homeless guy and he thanked us for just finding a coin on the ground!😊 If you want to ask me anything about Portland I'd be happy to answer.

Willamette Valley Vineyards sells t-shirts that read, “It's Willamette, dammit.” In other words, the “a” sounds like the one in “cat” and the last syllable should sound like the thing a baseball player wears on his hand. The pronunciation in this video sounds more like the Kalapuya tribe's word “walamet,” meaning to “spill or pour water”. I'm just being picky, but if it irked me enough to write a comment, it might be important to others as well. Loved the footage and the voice over is excellent :)

Portland is a smaller Seattle. A little less rain, slightly more muggy and hotter in summer than Seattle, but nothing compared to other parts of the country. Seattle has become a smug, icy metropolis drunk on it's sudden fame. I used to live there but couldn't stand the inward, navel-gazing attitude of Seattle.
@SomeGuyWhoPlaysGames3339 жыл бұрын
Heh, what? Washington and Oregon get pretty much the same amount of rain. As if you would just move to Portland if you want warmer temperatures. That being said, the temperatures in Western Washington actually reached the low 90's on some days and by the way, in most major cities, there are some arrogant people.
@NatureShy6 жыл бұрын
The difference in rainy days between Seattle and Portland is just only 5 days a year, on average (the difference between them, not the total amount of days). Seattle, because of its location near a large body of water, gives it more moderate temperatures with less swings. Portland gets colder winters and hotter summers than Seattle, just to elaborate.
