@@EmeraldLavigne because when it debuted 12 years ago it was extremely relevant for the times when it was the "hipster era". If you lived somewhere like Portland or Williamsburg or Toronto this show would hit dangerously close to home. Trust me, I used to be a part of that "scene" in my late 20s and my friends were all like this so it was very funny to see this show poke fun at us. Ironic humor was huge at the time.

manakin5 Maybe...I think often though it's because most people - eg in the 'flyover states' of the USA and what we call 'Middle England' here in the UK don't meet enough hipsters to understand the jokes! We had a very funny series in England called 'Nathan Barley' which made fun of London hipsters but it wasn't popular.

He ate and drank the precious words, his spirit grew robust; he knew no more that he was poor, or that his frame was dust. He danced along the dingy days and this bequest of wings was but a book; what liberty a loosened spirit brings! --Emily Dickinson

Got a little out of control... the thing is, these start out very Portland and end up too violent and Hollywood at the end (with some exceptions).

Ugh. This is so dead-on and not just for Portland. Hilarious, nonetheless.

More eccentric characters like on the fabulous Portlandia, only another time and place! If you like Portlandia you will get what I’m doing. Improv and reality. (Oh yeah, this is from NYC in the 90’s) Now it seems I was TROLLING all those years. (for a local cable access TV show) MAN ON THE STREET; in nightclubs, on the subways and everywhere. Investigate pop and trash culture with Jerry Rio as I explore the urban landscape. People in NYC are so sarcastic.Very funny. .

Love this show. It's really not about hipsters but is about the dream of the 90s (those of us gen x'ers who are way too old now to be hipsters but understand the "irony" of the scene).
