Thank you so much for your videos! I find that the charcoal I am using (willow) is too easily erased from the paper (the dark does not stay when I blend with my finger). Could it be because I am willow instead of vine charcoal or could it be the paper itself?
@YongChen7 жыл бұрын
That usually be two sides, charcoal and the paper. If you draw willow or wine, don't use a paper that is too smooth.

sayantan saha If you are using a hard Charcoal pencil to draw then it is difficult to erase and get highlights. Also, you can try using another paper, maybe one with a smoother texture to see if it helps. White charcoal pencil is more effective on colored paper. Usually, you have to use a kneaded eraser to get highlights(white color) and most brands are same when it comes to kneaded erasers. So, the issue is either the softness of the pencil or the paper texture. Strathmore 400 series of drawing paper is good for erasing and getting highlights. You can see here that most of the shading is done using Vine charcoal, which is easier to erase and blend and the hard pencil is used only for final details.
