I was able to sit down and take a break. Moving everything out of 3 bedrooms for new flooring. One room is the art room and I want to do it slowly and get rid of some things. Okay, the hatching on the face, I have always had it in my head that it just wouldn’t look right. Boy was I wrong. Listening to you as you went along, there is an art and important steps to it. Loved watching. I really hope this wonderful lady sees this one day and enjoys it too. They are so well trained and it takes a lot of work on their part. History is so important. The paint, wow did the paper take it well. Showing us the light layers and then just adding what is needed as you go along is so helpful. Thanks for the video, it was great. PS if I remember correctly, your team and mine are both 7-0. Who knows how the season will end. Take care, Essie.

Interesting mix for skintones. Mine is usually burnt sienna hansa yellow ( Or quin gold depending on ethnic value in color tones) and a quin rose since it has a blue and red shade in it all in one. Love the pen and ink wash. But Duh. You knew this. I always endup inking my stuff.

I always learn something when I watch your videos. I specifically liked your comments about lips! They are complicated and when you said to 'disassociate yourself from the object (lips) in order to capture the detail', that hit the nail on the head! I would love to see you do a study of lips, nose, eyes, and ears using that approach. (Like drawing the abstract or negative shapes of a figure instead of the figure itself.) Such wonderful talent you have! Thank you for sharing!

Holy cow, Steve. I knew you were a skilled and talented watercolorist, but I didn't know you could draw like that! Its actually a little demoralizing for amateurs like me. That level is far beyond my allocation of talent.
@mindofwatercolor4 жыл бұрын
Nah come on now! Let it inspire you. I see artists all the time that are better than me. I admire and aspire to their level, and the key is to ponder what it took for them to get there. Please don't fall into the "its gotta be talent" trap. It's not. Talent is a little relevant but not very. It's intense interest, learning and practice. I've put in the time. If you hope to get there quick or draw well without thinking about it much, THAT can be demoralizing.

This is a great one, portraits or even just adding a person to a picture that has a different center point is so darn difficult. You taught me that they dont have to be dead on the individual, but you certainly did a great job. I am sure that if you are gentle with the lines on her face she wouldnt mind at all. The sags under eyes are not our best features. Thank you for your videos, great as usual. Trying to get to watch more per day, but I end up going back to some because I really want to remember the lesson.

I love this way of creating a portrait, a very detailed drawing and the watercolour can be applied more freely. Instead of ink fineliner, how would pencil behave when covered with watercolour? Would the graphite lift and get lost in the wash or would it stay visible? I sketch with Faber Castell 900 HB pencils usually, do you think it would keep or would it flow away?
@mindofwatercolor4 жыл бұрын
HB is sort of the threshold. It will travel with the wash a little. I bit harder and you usually don't get much. Like and H or 2H. I personally don't mind the graphite moving with the wash a little unless I'm trying to maintain color intensity.

Beautiful work🖤 I am participating in Inktober this year(first time) and I did a portrait of a character from a TV show. He came out alright but after seeing your painting, I really want to try doing that style of watercolor. I know I can if I apply myself, I just have trouble mixing some of the colors. Sometimes they don't always want to work together. Anyways, thank you again for another great video 🖤

What about all the pencil lines from the initial drawing? I hate that they remain, and trying to erase them after painting or inking results in pigment loss. I've used watercolor pencil, but that results in color where you might not want it. Anybody have any useful ideas?
