Phillip McCordall ..... Hi I love the in depth way you explain your reviews and the non biased way you put it across on screen . Do you recommend any lower end lenses for a second hand Canon 40D ? Thanks Tony .

I don't know what jackass is complaining about the sound because it's fine. I will say that in some of your videos you look like you need a quick nap but other than that it's all good! I appreciate the super detail you go into because it answers a lot questions that I had. You & others are saving us beginners a crap load of money. Before KZbin & the lessons you pros offer us it was expensive courses at universities or colleges. So on behalf of us noobies I thank you.

I REALLY liked the single-light, no reflector shot, i.e, the first one. The flash and the "crystal ball" were good as well. Good demo of technique. Personally, I would have dropped the flash power a bit as I found the ball a bit too "glowey(?)". But again, that may be me. Keep 'em coming!
@PhillipMcCordall8 жыл бұрын
+Bill Weissborn Thanks for the comment, to be honest, I played around a bit with different power but in the end, I decided very bright was better for the video :)

Phillip, admittedly my French language skills lack authenticity and I live more than a stone's throw away from you in sunny Australia but I'd willingly travel halfway around the world at the drop of a beret to benefit from your wisdom. Indeed, in a nod to a more Puccini-esque bohemian lifestyle, I'm more than happy to slum it and room with the model in this video. Please advise asap and I'll sort the necessary documentation and selflessly refine an a capella rendition of Che gelida manina as a gesture of good faith. Cheers.

Hello great video, im catching hell trying to find out how a speedlight and strobe differs from a flash, can you help me out in simple terms, but plz dont say theyre the same thing otherwise how do they have the same name. thanks
@PhillipMcCordall8 жыл бұрын
a speedlite and a speedlight are the same except one is Canon make and the other Nikon make .Both these are strobe lights and all are flashes. Speed light is alsol a term used by all manufacturers to designate an off or on camera flash. There are also studio strobes that have a modeling light in them so you can see what the flash will do. This is also a flash. So basically, anything that flashes is a flash.
@Raychristofer8 жыл бұрын
Phillip McCordall I appreciate that explanation, I thought something was wrong with me when I googled and youtubed the difference and couldnt get an answer, might have to copy and paste your reply to a Wikipedia edit lol.

I watched this video with interest because I'd love to take high contrast black and white portraits well (some hope!): I think that all your portraits worked well and my favourite is the first high contrast one. Although you talked about light in the models's eye you didn't mention explicitly the catch light: is it important to you? If so, what steps do you take to control it?
@PhillipMcCordall8 жыл бұрын
Don't get hooked on repeating what others do, if a shot needs a catch light use one. There is no recipe for great portraits, it's a teach yourself by testing that you will create your own style.

Great and informative Video. As always! Keep em coming. Will you visit Photokina in autumn? 😉
@PhillipMcCordall8 жыл бұрын
+micha0001 I was thinking about Photokina, although I haven't really planned it yet. I'm going this weekend to a small show in England though.The problem with Photokina is that it needs at least two days. So that makes it expensive.
