Portrait sketch using brown and white inks, tinted with watercolor

In this short I'm using an experimental technique, waterproof pen and brown/white inks tinted with watercolor. I'm still trying to figure out how to make this work to it's fullest potential, and when I do, I'll upload a full tutorial on my channel. #penandink #portraitdrawing #inkdrawing

Beautiful! I don't know how to explain it, but to me this is so much more interesting and appealing than something hyperrealistic. The hatches have a life of their own and communicate so much, and it is truly art.

Thank you! I’m not sure I can explain the appeal of hatching either. To me there’s something about the way it conveys an artist’s obsessive exploration of form that is especially fascinating.

Check out Bernie Wrightson’s Frankenstein illustrations . I saw that and was completely blown away with the cross hatching technique.
