Although Jim claimed that he was never in any danger!...This is a "complete fabrication!"...Jim could NOT swim and was hanging onto the floating wooden floor, recovered by the RNLI, when we found him!...He was no lightweight and Chris Little's strength was greatly needed to pull Jim from the water!...Their boat sank as the 2 bungs, in the stern, were not put in place!...I was on site the following day when their boat was recovered by The Boy Matthew!...The most valuable lessons learned...1 Do NOT go to sea without wearing a LIFEJACKET...2 Do NOT go to sea if you have never trained to operate any vessel SAFELY..

David, presumably the boat was launched and not moored. I've seen boats with 1 drain plug but not 2. Who took them out? Previous owner??

Before taking out any boat to sea check it for water tightness, run the engines in gear, check stern glands in inboard set ups. Have bilge pumps and bailers to hand. Small boats can be checked on the hard or trailer simply by filling the inside with water to the waterline. A friend of mine bought a derelict 1930s on the upper Thames, pulled it out onto the hard and cleaned out the hull, an overnight downpour part filled the hull. The boatyard crew commented how well the hull held water so that's a good sign. He spent several years rebuilding the boat back to her 1930s spender.
