funny ,from my terrace I have the most beautiful open view of the serra da Gardunha from our side it has a beautiful defined peak,the mountain you thought was the serrra da Estrela was actually the serra do Açor,1418 m high with it's serrated 3 peaks to the West ,the serra da Estrela,is to the right of those peaks,NW from where you were,it was behind your back at 13.10, it looks like a massive extended flat granite rock from that distance,on a clear day we can see up to Figueira da Foz,that lies some 150 km away by car,so about 100 km in real distance ,that was tha antenna of the Meo mobile network I believe,the Gardunha mountain, is 20 km long and 1227 m high,there are 2 brands of mineral water produced today,the whole mountain range had a dozen of natural wells,when they build the 2 tunnels of the A23 motorway,most wells dried out,one of the many ecological crimes comitted by the politicians,in our beautiful region,and there were plans to build a motorway to Coimbra and have one of the longest tunnels through the Estrela mountain range hehehe glad that never happened!!

Great cycle with a well disserved beer at the end. The mountains you mentioned were in fact Serra da Estrela to the right, Açor to the middle and Monte de S. Brás to the left (a mountain between Estrela and Gardunha). You've seen more from Portugal than many portuguese. Keep up with the videos!

12:16 If you climb to the top of most of Portuguese mountains you will find similar antennas and buildings. They use mountain peaks to install communication antennas and transmitters. Some are FM radio and some are terrestrial TV. In the past, there were also taxi radio antennas as well (I don't know how is it nowadays). My guess is that some might also be military.

You’ll have learned a great deal this year, next year should be a little easier but no doubts you will have some other challenges. Surprised you’re not having fox troubles coming after the chickens..... that abandoned monastery building was awesome and huge, too bad it’s not being kept....have a good weekend. Thanks Michael, this ebike takes quite a bit of the strain out of the climbing. A few years back I would've seen it as cheating but I have nothing to prove anymore and just want to have fun 😁👍 get one they are good fun!

Yes hes doing a fantastic job. He regularly patrols the fence-lines barking and marking and we have not had a single issue with the badgers, mongoose or foxes that live here grabbing any of our free ranging chickens! We did have one of the baby chicks get taken by an eagle though! But that was a random event. We've had free ranging chickens for almost a year now with only one 'tiny baby chick' loss. Long live the DogDog :)

Hi Mr Ken. I notice that your dam is almost empty and you didn’t water anything during the summer

Like the Wells on the property, the dam is fed by an aquifer under the ground. The level of the aquifer will drop in summer as you can see in the dam and Wells. This is because it does not rain for many months. It's not a sealed tank that has a set amount of water. If we pumped water out it will refill it from the aquifer. (to the current level of the groundwater at that time). In winter the ground water level will be much higher. This is normal. The dam is still very deep. If I walked 2 metres from the shore it would still be over my head.

Be so careful with your string trimmer not to touch any bark of trees or grape vines. If you touch the bark with a trimmer it will wound tree or grape vine and it will kill plant

Yes we do a hard prune of the vines each year. We have only been here for 1 year so this was our first 😊😁👍

No we don't. The vet bills are many times cheaper than in the UK so we don't think it's necessary. Both our cats got ill since we have been here but the vet bills were much less than if we were paying monthly insurance so it doesn't make sense.

Hi Margie. Yes the whole of Season 2 is living on our farm. KZbin confuses the episodes and seasons and just recommends another random episode. I split season 1 and two up. Season one is us looking for a farm. Season 2 is us living on the farm we actually bought.
