It's funny you're saying it's a lot cooler. I remember vividly, living in Portugal on the 3rd week of September, the temperatures drop and the winter seasons begins. You start putting a light jacket on and prepare for some rain. Knowing this, usually I pick the first two weeks of September to travel back home to Portugal and see my family, as it's still nice and hot out. We're really hoping that the covid situation settles this year, and have the opportunity to do that again, I've never felt this homesick in my life before, and your videos both make it better and worse at the same time, eheh.

Hello from Texas, USA! My wife and I love your show and Portugal. We are on track to retire in 10 years and hope that when we do we will be doing so there. We have some friends heading there next year to enjoy their retirement in Portugal. Hopefully one day we will be visiting your farm for a stay in your motor home park! Stay safe and good luck! Ok, so.. my family is from lisbon Portugal. But I was born in canada, and also went to school in canada. So speaking portuguese, when I say some words I might pronounce them wrong. I've moved back here to Lisbon and I get treated, different. They know me, my parents, grandparents, cousins etc. So one day I was at the "junta de fregusia" and the lady who works there, has worked there all her life, about 25yrs. She knows who I am, and my family. So on this day I was waiting for my turn to be served, but there was a lot of conversation with 3 homemaker ladies about how nice the place looks.. But nobody was being served. I needed to get to the bank before it closed... There was a female new president of the town about 30yrs old who just was voted in... they did some small renovation to the office and they were all commenting on how big, and nice it looks. I was getting tired of this conversation because I had running around to do, and I jumped in and said " now all you have to do is sandpaper the walls and paint it all pink.. 😁... They all stopped talking and I was served in less than 5 minutes... It was obvious they were wasting my time... Nice people, I'm sure, but they will give you the run around... Expect it, it happens all the time. Especially in government offices. And mechanics will over charge... Etc... don't give up hope, there are nice people out there... I have no patience for ignorant people, and I'll let them know if they try... Things have been better ever since.. 😁

Are you part of the expats group on FaceBook? They have lots of friendly people with good advice. Might be good for you guys when you’re searching for help on things like car registration, etc. Hope there’s more rain to come and the grass/flowers start growing again!

Thanks for watching 😊 we have unsubscribed from all of the Facebook groups as we found them increasingly negative. I'm sure there are nice people too but they get drowned out with all the bad ones. You ask a basic question and instead of answering you get a bunch of people telling you that you should have done it differently or how dare you ask that question you should do your research etc. I don't entertain negativity so I left them all and am much happier for it. That's just my experience.

OKportugal thanks for the reply. I’m sorry you had your bad experience with registering the car but hopefully, the final one was successful. My family immigrated to the US over 50 years ago, so I know it’s hard when language is a barrier and when some can take advantage of that situation. Looks like you have nice friendly neighbors and I’m sure as you learn the language (I’m a native Portuguese speaker), things will only get better! Both you and Gina have a positive outlook and that goes far. Best to you guys.

is your neighbour going to plant something else after ploughing or leaving it bare over winter? you should consider broadcasting green manure plants to further fertilise the soil.

I'm pretty sure the fields will grow grasses and flowers again naturally as there are so many seeds still in the soil from springs hay harvest but we will see

@@OKportugal yes no doubt he will want hay again, but you could still use a quick growing manure crop in meantime [which gets ploughed back into soil] before then, and he will still get his hay next year.

@@OKportugal It turns out that it is not cheap to live in Portugal, one has to immigrate to Portugal with sacks of gold to live a reasonable standard of living. Apart from the relatively favorable real estate prices in central Portugal everything is expensive, including communication and car. I wonder how much reasonable health insurance costs.
@OKportugal

@@smichael5547 the only thing we have found expensive here are cars. The rest is way cheaper than the UK. Bear in mind that we live in central Portugal and not in an expensive city like Lisbon or Porto.

Hi Ken do you get an income from the sheep eating corn on your land?
@OKportugal
@OKportugal Жыл бұрын
Hi Yomi, our neighbour needs lots of grass, haybales and corn to feed his sheep. We dont need any of it ourselves, so we made an arrangement where he uses his tractors, to prepare our fields to grow food for his sheep, and in return he helps us with our olive and grape harvests. We are happy to do this as we learn a lot about farming in the process and his sheep make lots of milk so he is happy too :)

Burocracy in Portugal is absolute trash, but the people are great so Im sure you can find someone to help you. Car's are on the list of top for burocracy up there with Housing, Internet/TV/Phone, etc.... I hope you really start diving in the Portuguese language so you can better interact with the people, the most common mistake I see is people really not learning it and then blame that people are nice but you can't make friends/have conversations/etc.... Specially since you are "far" from main cities where English is less spoken (proven by the used car dealerships not speaking it, only the exotic ones). I'd suggest starting with basic stuff such has fruits, vegies, basic conversations starters and some words you would use on a day to day and getting the accent as correct as you can (if you study from online stuff make sure its in European Portuguese and not Brazilian Portuguese, despite being almost identical the pronunciation is not).
