this album is beautiful and the meanings behind them are too. the raw scariness some hold is what makes them so gorgeous , it is so pure in the way that it shows evil in the prettiest way. and love in its most destructive form. the oxymorons in this album are infinite and that is why portugal. the man is my favorite band. i fucking love you guys. this is art.

@@jotan.3310 I’m a loser, I’m on my 4th watch! Lol This version of Sherlock is on of my favorite characters.
@bradmiley2 жыл бұрын
You know, I've never been a fan of Sherlock Holmes - unless it's Basil Rathbone on Old Time Radio. I've always found the TV versions to be awful. But I gave the first ep of Elementary a watch - and was instantly hooked. Excellent premise, superb writing . Jonny Lee Miller is fantastic. And Lucy Liu is perfect as a "roped in by accident but learns fast" Watson. It doesn't harm the original books or stories. It simply borrows the characters and sets them loose. I was going to watch the Benedict Cucumberpatch series, but I cannot stand Martin Freeman. Benedict is ace! If you've never heard the radio series "Cabin Pressure" you MUST find it. The cast loved being in it, had lots of fun making it - Benedict in one episode has a croaky voice, as he'd had some throat surgery, but he valiantly soldiered on - and Anthony Head recorded one episode in a booth in America, live, with the rest of the crew. Try and catch it, it's tons of fun. So if you're NOT really into Sherlock Holmes, definitely give "Elementary" a go. It's just perfect!!

Commenting this because I haven't seen anyone else mention this take. This song really reminds me of being at Christian summer camp and the contrast between being a small child and growing up and realizing the truth about the indifference of our reality. The clapping and the guitar are really very much like being in a echoy raw pine built church. The line "We got the whole world hanging there..." is a lot like the child's hymn "He's got the whole world ... in his hands" It has a similar cadence and similar beats but the message is the opposite. There's nothing for us to hang our identity on: we are not God's children, and this world isn't the creation of a god. The song is about the facing reality and understanding if you or someone else decides to check out of it.

I like that the tune of this song sounds very happy and upbeat, while the lyrics are all about how small and insignificant the human race is compared to the vastness of the universe. It's almost Lovecraftian in that regard.

So I bought the box set from eBay - 39 discs ! The complete collection! Not bad. But back to the song. It played during an emotional scene, and I had to find out about it. It's a really nice song. It fits your mood perfectly - a bit like The Decemberists. A wonderful song!

What they want to get across..whatever it is it feels very human and natural. You end up finding comfort in a song even though its meaning is so dark.
