I'm imagining two characters going through through something like this. Adam and Athena were expecting a son. If his birth were to occur naturally then it kill him and his mother. Adam had an idea, have him be born in the Sanctum. A plane of existence much like their own, however they can't go back. Archangels, like Adam and Athena can. He was able to be born but it would be years or centuries that he would exist on Adara. I imagine Adam and Athena singing this song to their son while he becomes light. Becoming part of the moon in the Sanctum.

Vocalist/guitarist Dave Bayley explained the story behind this song to Paste magazine: "The idea for this one came from a story someone told me once. They were telling me about their child, and something awful had happened to them. She was crying - but at the same time the memories that they had from that previous life made her so happy - so she was also smiling. That combination of emotions kind of made me feel like my heart was being ripped apart but also optimistic in a weird way. She had found a way to see happiness in this awful thing that had happened to her. That combination of emotions is what this song is getting at."

My dad passed away in 2012 and now he communicates to me sometimes through songs. If I ask him a question the next song I hear will have the answer. This year I had to start my life over completely and I have moved across the country away from a toxic person, and then I moved again from the next place I lived from another toxic person, all during the pandemic. I am also legally blind and otherwise disabled so I worried about how I would make it on my own after my losses and divorce. I don't know anybody here and I'm completely alone. This comes after 10 years of loss and change that started with his death. Anyway, When I asked him how could I ever have a life again he sent me this song. He always does. I have been told he is my spirit guide and I can tell when he's here. I love glass animals

I hope my son can find some type of solace or message in this song one day. We lost his mother my wife when she passed suddenly three months ago at 23 years young. He was only 2 years old and 7 months when it happened. It was a short time for him but so many happy memories. They spent every single hour of every single day together. We’re so lost and devasted without you, We love you Deja C Rodriguez
@alivc24583 жыл бұрын
This story is heart wrenching, its absolutely tragic to hear about the loss of a young beautiful life. I am actually 23 years old and to think that someone my age could be ripped away from this world is horrific. Unfortunately nature takes its course in unforeseen ways, but the bright side is although it feels like she's gone her soul isn't. I truly believe that she is there watching over you and your son each and everyday, trying to guide you down the right path in subtle ways. I know its not the same but she lives on, especially through your child and some day soon enough you will all be reunited again. I can only imagine the pain you must feel, but thankfully time will continue to heal your heart, you just have to be patient and allow the time to pass. Meanwhile if you need a person to listen, you can talk to me! I'm sending positive energy your way, I hope you can take some comfort in this ❤

I know no one cares about stuff like this but I just wanted to speak on the power of art because it’s beautiful. This video and this entire album has been a huge catalyst and help in me saving myself and my family. I was forcing my husband and 3 kids to live with my abusive parents so that I could try to make them love us before they died. All they did was hurt us more and instead of dealing with it I kept staying there and started doing pain pills. This video helped hit home how much I don’t need my parents and it made me never want to escape from my reality again. I hadn’t quite gotten to a stage of disgust, but I sure have done a lot of regrettable things. This album helps me have the strength to keep doing my best to learn to be better and to learn to be the best I can be for my kids. I don’t want to be held back by anything anymore and I don’t want to hold back my family. Thank you glass animal and crew:) your saving lives with this music

This song came on at the concert and I lost it. I was singing the chorus completely choking up. Voice cracking that turned into straight sobbing. My friends and family all knew, they held me saying how much they loved me. Every memory I have of my daughter is in this song. My god I don’t think I’ve cried so hard in my life while singing. It was closure I felt and needed. Thank you glass animals truly. As I write this I can feel the tears. Thank you so much for playing this song at your concert. Waited 7 years to see them live.

I found this song the day after the funeral of my friend who I loved and trusted like a little brother and saying that is still an understatement of how much he meant to me, he died at only 11 years old , he was an optimist and knew where he was heading, he took others before himself and was the most selfless person I've met, he would always great me as his hyper self running down the stairs from his room and yelling "VIIICCKKKKYYYYYYY" my God I would have done anything to make him happy, and I did, I tried, to see him upset was to see the world crumble and yet the world seemed to go with him as a whole when he left. What an emotional video. I love reading all the perceptions. From my perspective, I think it is about a single mother who worked endlessly to provide for her son the best she could, even if it meant bringing him to work and she had him taken away from her because she failed to provide an adequate life for him. Now she grieves the loss of him as she still works at the same diner endlessly.. unable to move forward.

returning to this song after graduating highschool and also a month before i turn 18. this song truly helped me through some of my hardest moments throughout my teenage years. i experienced trauma after trauma, had no friends, wanted to drop out of school but was still a straight a student. my childhood was picture perfect, my mother worked two jobs and my father raised me while being an alcoholic. when i was four, my family got ‘better’ until my preteen years, when i found glass animals. i’ve never been so musically touched by the art of music in the way that glass animals music has affected me. this song and many others from their discography have allowed me to relate, grieve, be a kid, smile, cry, and so much more. hope to revisit this song in years to come. ❤ -jay

My interpretation: The mother put her son up for adoption because of their life not being in the best state so she left him so he could have a better life, either the lyrics are a message to him before he was put up for adoption, or a message to him when he has grown up.

It seems like when she's looking for him he kind of goes away but when she's distracted she's missing out on seeing him. Youth itself kind of is like that. If you keep trying to chase after how your past used to be, it's just going to get further away. And if you try to push it away and forget about it, you miss the good things that it could've given to you. Our childhood dreams can't stay forever, but to just forget about them is kind of callous. She's also too invested in her job it seems to be able to be 'young again'. And, like most music videos, I don't think the lyrics have the match the meaning of the video perfectly.

I always heard as if they were counting in the chorus since they used phonetically similar words. Even reading the lyrics I still hear it. Like: ONE, i want you TWO be happy THREE to run and dizzy on caffeine FOUR your friends that make you laugh And maybe you're just a little bit dappy FIVEEEEEEEEEE strangely enough i never heard the second fly as Five hahaha. But always felt as if the counting was symbolizing the priorities she wanted her child to have.

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to listen to this song with dry eyes. My grandmother died when I was 14 quite suddenly, and throughout my childhood, she was my rock. My parents were never that great. They were toxic in many ways that I’m not going to go into depth about here, but I always loved going to her house. I loved helping her in her garden and running errands with her and doing crafts together and baking cookies with her. When she died, my entire world fell apart. It felt like a part of my soul was ripped out of me and I didn’t know how to react at the time. It’s been years now, and I’m 21 now, and I swear to god this song is her singing to me. These lyrics feel exactly like something she would say to me and every time I listen to this, it feels like she’s comforting me from beyond the grave. Thank you so much for releasing this beautiful work of art.

"The idea for this one came from a story someone told me once. They were telling me about their child, and something awful had happened to them. She was crying-but at the same time the memories that they had from that previous life made her so happy-so she was also smiling. That combination of emotions kind of made me feel like my heart was being ripped apart but also optimistic in a weird way. She had found a way to see happiness in this awful thing that had happened to her. That combination of emotions is what this song is getting at. Have a look at this character’s website, too."

Just some thoughts... This video makes me feel the song is about mother who grieves of her child. They're not together anymore by whatever reason could be. She's dressed in red and he is in pale blue t-shirt, that's important. When he dances under the red lights this could mean she's still with him in her thoughts and tries to take care of him. When she sits at the table looking into the camera she has pale blue cup on the table - this also could mean she's always thinking of him. The pale blue empty car as a symbol of the place in her heart left empty without her boy. Also pale blue sky when she's running out looking for him could mean that now he's everywhere around her. Didn't think the song is so sad until I saw this video.
