@@FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska Thank you I’m really trying to make sure I am speaking clearly. My oldest got me a new 🎤 so hear is hoping I’m much clearer, right? Lol, believe me we joke all the time about being close enough to do that kind of thing. I imagine flour is not the cheapest there; however, when you provide a good people need. Ex: your crackers, soap, etc.

@@TheSimpleAlaskans yes I’m so grateful to have it for sure. 3 years of hand mixing doughs taught me a lot and gratitude is one. I wouldn’t trade the 3 years without it for the knowledge I gained. Still when we saw the sale it was like let’s do this thing. Have a wonderful day Lynn.

@@BrakesBake I totally understand. I used my grandmas very OLD Kitchen Aid when I was younger until it died in the 90s. It went unreplaced for years lol. Daryl bought me one in 2020. I hope both of ours last as long as Grandmas did lol. You have a wonderful day as well!

@@TheSimpleAlaskans Me too Lynn. I love that you kept it, used it and can you imagine how well she cared for it. I have my mother's old cast iron pot for example. She gave it to her mom when she got her first job, her mom passed so it went back to her and she left it to me. It was the only thing I wanted. It's the memories not just the object.

Hi Dee, I enjoyed your video very much. I have made portuguese sweet bread many times the way I was showing by my mom, what I find very interesting is when making the sponge yeast you do not add any sugar. I have always add sugar to my sponge yeast mixture. Is there a reason why? Great job in measuring out all the ingredients. Creating these videos is a lot of work. Good job guys.

Wow, thank you so much for your comment and question we so appreciate it. As to the yeast question, because the flour is added the yeast will feed on it instead of sugar. Sourdough taught me this since natural occurring yeast from the environment does the same when you feed it flour. I had to really change my mind set because I only knew about the water, sugar and yeast method too. Once I tried it I did research through and found out that it would work. I hope this helps and you will try it. Thank you again for stopping by.

@@deebrake Hi Dee thanks for the reply, I just finished baking sweet bread last week lol. And that’s how I came across your video. I also have a kitchen aid stand mixer. I will definitely try it your way, I’m always willing to try something new, my stand mixer is too small for the amount of flour I use. After seeing your video I think I’ll give it a try. Thanks Again Luis

Hi Dee, the way i make sweet bread is so much different, the best way I can explain how i make sweet bread is, there’s a gentleman named Angelos kitchen on KZbin that has a great video. That’s pretty much the way I’ve always made sweet bread but in a smaller quantity, about half. The only thing Angelo does not mention is, before adding the sponge yeast, I make sure the dough mixture is 105°F or less. I have an instant digital thermometer that I used to test the dough mixture, I continue to mix the dough mixture until the dough is at a safe temperature before I add the sponge yeast. Thanks again, Luis

@@BrakesBake Hi Dee, I’m try your sweet bread recipe as I am texting. I weighed out all the ingredients to the gram as instructed, after letting the door rest for 5 or so min before adding the remaining 200 g of flour. It looks fantastic. very sticky. When I thought it was ready. I removed it over to my workstation. I could not get the dough consistency to where I could roll and gently slap as per video so I decided to add a tablespoon of flour and continue to flip and slap the dough I would say after about 4 tablespoons of flour I finally got the consistency that I could shape into a nice round ball. Question adding a little extra flower is that normal? Thanks, Luis
