"Kick them in the shins and get a new friend" I am a huge supporter of having friends who enhance your self being and not drag you down so I am admitting to stealing thus phrase and giving it to my best friend and favorite cosplayer, my cousin. She's over weight and just beginning to love herself. I will also be spreading it to other that come to me upset that people are so rude about not looking a certain way. Thank you for this video and the best ending

this is the most legit advice I've heard. I've always wanted to cosplay but years passed and now I'm in colleague and still haven't done so.. Not many anime/video games culture going on there.. I only have a piece of a costume (just a coat), but not the rest so that doesn't count as cosplay..

This video is not only informative to a first timer and to a veteran, but also uplifting and helpful to those people who don't feel comfortable cosplaying as certain characters because they don't have that body shape/size/color. Almost brings me to tears. You are a wonderful person and your public speaking abilities are outstanding.

Such great advice! I am so glad I found this video, I just started a new costume and asked a few people their opinion on fabric. the character I chose is a king and I wanted to get advice on if I should use shiny fabric or non-shiny fabric... I did not even consider what it would look like with flash on a camera! you just saved my costume! (Everyone said they would go with the shiny fabric... hahaha) Thank You great video, fantastic advice!

thank you so much for all these advices. When you start talking about "be ourselves" and no matter who we would like to cosplay. It really touched me. I do cosplay since several years, but I never dared to wear my cosplays in convention or even take a picture with it. "Too small, too flat, too thin, too pale, too many things wrong with myself". Today I feel more motivated to show myself. And finally share my passion with those who can appreciate it. Then, thank you very much, I am overexcited !

BLESS YOUR SOUL. Some people need this message so so much. I was one of them; I was very insecure about the idea of cosplaying certain characters but as I grew I learned to not care what other people thought of me and I did what made me happy. So THANK YOU for saying what the internet needs to hear; if you want to cosplay someone, GO COSPLAY SOMEONE.

Your words of advice have really helped me. Millions of commenters on a Kasem G video told me i was a terrible cosplayer because i didn't look like Jessica Nigri.... Ever since I have been scared to attend anime expo in cosplay regardless of the work I had put into my costumes.... You have enlightened me. Thankyou so much.

Also, I love the last bit you gave, I actually a had a friend (I'm no longer friends with her) who would tell me that I'm too tall or I'm too fat to cosplay a certain character. Thanks for the video, I really like the way you think and talk about your experiences, however i would like to share something with you regarding the "if someone tells you you are too fat to cosplay this or that get new friends" so here is my story, I know this girl who is a little bit "rounder" than the average and decided to do a sailor moon group with a bunch of friends and she decided to be sailor moon. Everybody was okay with that, so they did the costumes and everything and went to the convention together and took lots of pics. When the pictures started to be uploaded to social networks, turned out that this girl HATED the way that she looked on the pics and told everyone to delete the photos from their fanpage and everything.. that's the problem, they all worked so hard on their costumes and they cant show it because the other girl hates the way she looks on that costume. Youre wondering why I'm telling you this, just to say, if someone wants to cosplay something telling them "listen, i dont think it would look on you" isnt about being mean.. its just we dont want that person to be hurt and being sad about the way she would look and also, having months of hard work trashed. But I know, as you said that perso have to be aware of what she looks like but sometimes people dont want to see the truth and expect to "magically" look awesome and thin in photos. That's my only complain about your video, because you make it seem like we are horrible people, that's not the case.. Im sorry for the long post and all the mistakes I have made, english is not my first language.

Sweeney Todd It's a growing problem that when I filmed this, I thought was less likely to happen but now I think not only happened and I wasn't aware - but i'm now being told by cosplayers of colour that they're getting it sometimes at every con they attend, multiple times. It's a huge issue in our community we have to tackle - and i'm sorry you had to deal with that.
