As a former opp r-hander I was never a fan coaches who pushed starting outside the line. I'd typically start right about on the line and use my body to turn in if I needed a sharper angle. I always felt you get more power/speed on the ball when you are swing straight or closed and you lose block-tooling angles when you have to tool to the outside of your body. (Your wrist can only do so much against a block before you have to change your entire motion.)

That’s real coaching. What fits the players strengths and then expanding their skills.

It seems that the wide-wide approach limits attacking down line. Near the side line approach limits having to position the body to attack line. One may be asking how a seam or cross attack can be attempted. I train RS/OPP to locate the ball in front of the face for seam and on the left side of the face or should for cross attacks. For line the ball should be on the right side of the face or shoulder.

I really dislike having a wrist away cut shot being your standard line attack for the right side. No matter where you start, the line attack should be straight through the ball when possible.

Amazing

That's exactly what I always ask to right handed spiker, even if "the old school" alwasy ask to get the starting position inside the court.
