For my blog susangarrettdog... A look at the what is possible when you train a dog without physical or verbal corrections. Wouldn't it be nice of all dogs could know this kind of joy in training?

I really wish some day I can see a trainer demo'ing something - anything with a non-herding dog. I.e; a hound like a large sight hound for instance. That would certainly pique my interest and impress me far far more than anything.

i know your comment is old but i also wish they would demonstrate with a dog that is not a border collie sometimes...

I've noticed that most positive trainers tend to have border collies too - I guess because they're the smartest breed and it's so much fun to train them. You can get them to learn pretty complex stuff so I guess it makes it more impressive when they show off their dog's skills in demos etc. I had a border collie as my first dog and used positive training and it worked really well (even though he was an adult rescue and had some behavioural issues). When I got my next dog (mixed breed) I did wonder if the same technique would work as well on her - if anything it worked even better! The BC was insanely smart and figured out how to manipulate me (every day was a constant battle of wits with him) I enjoyed the mental challenge (I must be a masochist) but it was tiring too. With the mixed breed she's less manipulative (though could be because she's younger) and she's very obedient having been trained with positive methods from puppyhood.

@4c00h You want to see that without any verbal or physical correction ? Take one of Susan's courses and you'll be able to do it yourself ! That's what I did, and did not regret une second or one penny of it !!

This shows an already trained dog, it doesn't show how the dog got to learn all that through positive training, it's all fun and games once the dog has learnt a few tricks but where's the video that shows how you got him to that stage when he knew nothing? I want to see that without any verbal or physical correction.

@4c00h But you did not try this kind of method. It works with any and all dgs, whatever breed or age. :-(

@AgilityFox Hey I don't regret any of these methods but I'm not training a dog like this I'm training a dogo argentino and it's not exactly a dog you can manipulate without a lot of experience, the most difficult dog I've had to train was my bull terrier who was deaf, on top of being stubborn already by nature

Hi! I need to know... how do you do when the dog is reaaaally obstinated? Mine is an Akita inu and she is only interested in food and gets bored 5 minutes laters...

Wow. Awesome! I have trouble training the enthusiasm. I would love to know how that's done. But Swagger looks amazing, I can't believe he is so big already!!

The best way to do it is to start building food and toy drive with your new puppy. Older dogs can also build drive, but it is harder to do.

Perfectly Brilliant. This shows everything I want in my own dogs.
