What Is Metagaming In D&D And Why It's (Usually) Bad: kzbin.info/www/bejne/earJmailadeSZtE

A great perspective on the positive aspects. Thank you! (it is funny when I watch Critical Roles, I find I don't like it when the characters are negative toward each other...and then I realize that that is what would really happen if you were stuck with a small group for such an intense adventure. Of course there would be conflicts! LOL As you point out, it is knowing how to smooth things out if those conflicts start interfering with the game) :)

Yes exactly!!! It's absolutely normal and a part of good roleplay most times! It's important to find ways to smooth it out and of course to check in with the other player and confirm that the conflict is only in game and not personal out of game! A check in is always helpful when tackling conflict or difficult situations 🤗

Positive metagaming is essential, otherwise the game would take too long to even start beeing a fun, group game. All of your examples are to-the-point and I think this video will help players undestand the difference of good vs bad metagaming

@@MyrtosArtCorner 1. The Gaming Budget. How much you should spend when you starting out in D&D? What do you include in your budget? How much is too much? 2. Using miniatures or the alternatives? What is better? What are pros and cons of them? 3. Should props be used in the game? What are some ways to make props? An example is scroll dipped in a tea bath. 4. What are some good non WOTC gaming books to use? Are older edition or third party books useful? What about non-gaming books? 5. Where to get your plot line / story if you don’t buy the adventure books or modules?

I find that another thing that makes some metagaming positive is during combat. Unless you are playing in a hardcore roleplay group that wants to roleplay every single detail of every day, using metagaming to justify tactical plays and team cohesion even though your characters just started adventuring, really helps. Furthermore, with the DM's support I feel that metagaming certain combat elements like knowing a specific monster weakness or knowing goblin tactics, is something that should be considered. After all, your characters are still people IN the world, they grew up in it, and it stands to reason that they would have done some necessary preparation before going out adventuring. After all, if something is not common knowledge, that's exactly what knowledge checks are there for.

Oh yes, absolutely!!! That's the fun of picking certain proficiencies too! What's the point of being proficient in history or nature etc, if you can never recall anything? I think it only becomes problematic if it becomes too much to be honest. And even that will vary a lot from group to group! It's all about finding the right balance 😊

@@MyrtosArtCorner True that. Ultimately its about what kind of game everyone wants to play. But personally, I think that research, traveling and preparation are very underutilized elements of DnD and Pathfinder. After all, why play a ranger, or any other type of wizard aside from "heavy dmg dealers" when traveling and research are skipped?
@MyrtosArtCorner2 жыл бұрын
@@johnbouras3422 Exactly that! They are utilised in a lot of groups though, you just have to find the one that suits you 😊 In my opinion D&D is extremely versatile and can suit anyone's taste!

Why are we so trusting of the new party member? Why would my character work with yours in spite of you being a thief and me being a paladin? Why are we going into the goblin cave as a small group rather than assembling the townsfolk into a small army and raiding it together?
@MyrtosArtCorner2 жыл бұрын
Yup, great examples of problematic situations that we solve with positive metagaming!!!
