Hello! I started singing it some weeks ago to my 1st formers and it's fantastic! I teach Ensligh as a second language. At the beginning I spent like 3-4 minutes singing it and thought "well, this ain't going as planned" until they actually understood what was going on and now is almost automatic. They know what I expect from them and their faces light up when I sing their names. Thanks a lot for this tip! Lots of love from Argentina!

I am just finding your videos:) I have been in childcare for 17 years and I have been a nanny for the last 4 years. It's thrown off my usual game since I am now in THEIR home and going by their rules now. It's definitely a change. I've mainly taken care of infants (daycare) and am now dealing with bigger kids that aren't the best at listening to what I have to say. I just decided to look on KZbin for help after a very long and trying day and your videos are such a breath of fresh air:)

As a music teacher, I would like to encourage you to use a much higher pitch (ideally your starting note for this particular song would be E4 or F4, but the absolute lowest D4). There's nothing wrong with your voice, you can pitch and you might find it more enjoyable yourself if you dare to use that lovely singing voice we all have. It is a very important modelling aspect for the children, their comfortable singing range at this age is between C4-A4, extending maybe 2 notes up and 2 notes down for some. They also pick their heads up better when they hear a higher pitched voice. Try to overcome the first barrier - getting to know that different voice - away from any audience, there are also tons of videos that offer some warm up exercises to explore and open up your higher range. Good luck and let me know please if you have tried and tested this.

Star, if your school does not require a dress code, I would suggest khaki pants and a buttoned down shirt. These clothes would look professional but also be comfortable. They will also wash easily, which is so important for a preschool teacher. Good luck and let me know how things go with your new job!

I would like to request a video on the complaints parents seem to have (preschoolers parents) that when they ask the child what they took in school the child doesnt reply or the child doesnt know the letters etc etc . How would I answer the parent and is there some thing I can do in class to solve that problem ?
@positivepreschooltips6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! This is such a common problem with preschoolers. I tell parents that preschool children do not have the cognitive ability to recall lots of facts from their day. I suggest to the parents to ask specific questions, such as "who did you play with today?" "Did you play in the block center?" "Tell me one fun thing that you did at school today". This will get the children focused on a specific activity and that will help them recall facts of the day. When I have had students that have language issues or struggled with communication, I have taken a picture of the child involved in activity and sent it to the parents so the child would have a picture to talk about and help them recall details of the day. I hope this helps.

@@positivepreschooltips Thanks! This is awesome! I like the program so far, but it's challenging my kids have been through 3 teachers in 5 months ( I'm the 4th). So it's been very hard for the children. I am having the most difficulty transitioning. My kids do very well in the morning, I lose them during circle (which is about an hour and half after we get them off the bus). My assistant is also new and we have tried a lot of different strategies. We study conscious discipline where I work and we are always trying that, but I feel like it doesn't work very well with my kids. If you could give me tips for circle time with 3 year olds I would greatly appreciate it. They love doing their welcome song and moving their pictures from home to school, but by the time i'm reading the book for the day they're gone! Circle time is only 15 minutes, but it's still hard. I appreciate any suggestions!
@positivepreschooltips5 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferf9446 , three year olds have a very difficult time sitting for 15 minutes! My suggestion would be to do a movement activity (dancing, exercises, etc) to help get the wiggles out before story. If the book allows, have props (puppets,etc) read the story then have the children 're-enact' the story giving each child a role. This will keep them busy and help them retain the story. I often give 'smiley faces' for good listening which is just drawing a smiley face on the back of their hand with a washable marker. You could pick two or three 'good listeners' after story and recognize them by describing the behavior they had (ex.sat quietly with hands in lap) and give them a 'good listener' smiley face. The next day, before you read the book, announce that you (and assistant) will be looking for 'good listeners'. It's amazing how little ones will work for a smiley face :). I don't know if your circle time includes calendar but if so, here are some thoughts: the concept of time and days are really above a three year olds head (today, tomorrow, yesterday). If you are doing calendar, I would suggest pointing to the day of the week and telling the children the day (Today is Wednesday) and sing a little Wednesday song. Add the date and have the children count with you. Another fun idea is to introduce "Zero the Hero". Each time the date has a zero in it (10. 20. 30) Zero the Hero will visit the classroom. This is done by having items that look like a zero (life savers, fruit loops, circle stickers, etc) appear when they are out of the classroom and the children get surprised by what "Zero the Hero" has left them. This will keep them interested in the calendar to track the next Zero the Hero visit (if is on a weekend, you could pick the Friday or Monday for the visit). There are lots of icons on line for Zero the Hero and you can print one to place on the calendar for the children to see when he is coming next. www.pinterest.com/countrycutiepie/zero-the-hero/ The trick is to keep them busy and engaged! Let me know if any of this is helpful or if you need additional suggestions. You don't need to give me your exact location, but I'm curious if you are east coast, west coast, south or mid-west, etc. Good luck!
@jenniferf94465 жыл бұрын
@@positivepreschooltips Hello, thanks I will try these tips on Monday and let you know. I live on the east coast in NY. I have tried interactive stories before, and they really like it. I might also need some tips to get three year olds to clean up. We are having a hard time getting our kiddos to clean up after free play and before nap time. My boss wants us to have quit toys up before nap, which I did today along with playing calming music and dimming the lights to get ready for nap. However, when it was time to clean up to go to mats the kids would not clean up. We have tried clean up songs races etc but with little luck. I really do appreciate this, I love my job but because of the atmosphere and so many changes in the environment it has been very hard for the kids. It is heartbreaking.
@positivepreschooltips5 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferf9446 you seem like a knowledgeable and caring teacher! My suggestion for clean-up is to play a clean up song. Pick a few students that are cleaning and announce, "I see Caiden putting blocks away; he's cleaning like a cleaning-machine!" Then call out other children by name and say what they are doing to be a 'cleaning-machine'. You can also give children that are not cleaning an assignment (Eva your job is to clean up all the baby dolls in homeliving center). After clean up, bring up the 'cleaning-machines' and make a big deal to the class about what they did to be a 'cleaning-machine' (ex. Caiden started cleaning up as soon as the clean up song came on, etc.). This will recognize the children that are doing a good job cleaning up and encourage the other children to clean up to get recognized as a 'cleaning-machine'. I'm so impressed with your patience and dedication to your class!

I used this song in my classroom after watching the video and you're right! It works like a charm! However I find that after we are done with the song Nd start into our lesson they are quick to go back to not following the directions. A few of them go back to their previous behaviors right after they hear their name in the song. How do you handle that?
@positivepreschooltips6 жыл бұрын
You may want to add another strategy for after the lesson. Pick two or three children that did well and offer them a sticker (or I use a marker and draw a smiley face on the back of their hand). Make a big fuss that these children sat nickels during the lesson. Tell the children that you will give out stickers (or smiley faces) after each lesson the the children that have sat nicely. That way you get them to the lesson with the song and motivate them to keep their good behavior with a sticker after the lesson. Be very selective on the behavior you want to earn the sticker. Good luck!
