The Poson festival is a festival celebrated to develop virtues and to express gratitude to the great Arahant Mahinda, who gave us Buddhism...The Supreme Patriarchs (Mahanayaka Theros) are not at all interested in these haunted houses... We hope that the Ministry of Buddhism will ban the construction of these haunted houses, which are a stain on Sri Lankan culture...

No Buddhist would ever have any gambling stalls on poya days, and certainly not on Vesak or Poson! These days are not meant for carnivals, but for practicing daana, sheela and Bhavana - generosity, disciplining one’s senses and meditation respectively, It’s sad to see people losing the essence of Buddhism even on such days!
