My fave no/little gore horror films are The Babadook, 1408, & Disturbia. Each are about understanding people's perceptions of what's going on around them whether they're really happening or not. They're more psychological-dramas but still make me squirm.

@@PossessedbyHorror I'd include "Ghost Story" with Alice Krige (even when it was new, it was kind of hokey, but I still love it) and "The Forgotten" with Julianne Moore (woman searches for her missing son...and everyone tells her he never existed). Oh, and "Wind Chill" (two college students take a short cut...what could go wrong?)

Glad you mentioned The Others first on this list. Such an underrated gem of a film that needs to be talked about more. Also… I think it would be a cool idea to do a video on what you personally feel makes a Horror vs what makes a Thriller with examples of films that are straight horror, straight thriller, and films that toe the line between both.

My favourite minimal/no gore horror films are: Carnival of Souls (1962), Shutter (original 2004 Thai version), The Eye (original 2002 Hong Kong version), and Dark Water (original 2002 Japanese version). I also agree with some of the comments here that 1408, The Babadook, Creep, Session 9, and The Innkeepers are pretty effective as well.

I have a soft spot in my heart for The Changeling (1980). The séance seen still gives me chills even though I watch it at least once a year. And Murder by Decree (1979) Is more mystery with a bit of horror. It's Jack the Ripper vs Sherlock Holmes. The murders happen off screen before Sherlock shows up- so you see a smidge of the aftermath- but it's not too gory.

Honestly, I'd say Sixth Sense. And, frankly, nothing can beat it for me. I know there's an open wound moment, a hanging moment, and a vomiting moment. But there's something so special about this movie that I haven't found elsewhere. It's the human relationships and how the supernatural and the suspenseful part of all the characters' lives is what makes them confront the problems in their relationships. I find it sweet. And sad. And super thrilling.

Yeah, the 4th kind was scary for me because it had a demonic undertone. The "alien" calls itself God, which suggests something morally bereft and demonic. That one scene where he convulses while hovering over the bed, scary.
@I.____.....__...__
@I.____.....__...__ Жыл бұрын
12:23 Because they didn't. _10 Cloverfield Lane_ was originally an unrelated thriller called _The Cellar._ Abrams was too busy ruining Star Trek and Star Wars to make a real sequel so he just renamed that movie and had them throw together a webpage to manufacture a fake connection to Cloverfield; there was NOTHING in the movie itself, and the webpage is gone now, so there's literally no connection. (No, the aliens are not related to Cloverfield because the Cloverfield-monster is NOT an alien, it was an ancient EARTH creature that was on the bottom of the ocean until a Tagruato satellite fell and woke it up. Duh. 🤦) Likewise, _Cloverfield Paradox_ was originally an unrelated sci-fi move called _The God Particle._ They renamed it and spliced in a of shots of the monsters and a couple of shots of close-ups of monitors of people talking about the monster (if you look close, you'll notice it's just random arms and legs in those shots, NOT the actual actors from the movie). - Supposedly, he's making a real sequel soon, but that's probably not true because he'll be too busy ruining Half-Life and Portal. 😒

I was blown away by His House, especially as it came in under the radar with no fanfare. I LOVED 'She Will' too! I was going to recommend but wasn't sure it would be scary enough for this list. It's almost like a contemporary fairy tale. It's worth watching for Alice Kridge's incredible performance alone, and the wonderfully dark forest setting. What Lies Beneath is good too, The Others, obviously, as other people have mentioned 1408 (preferably the version without the silly jump scare in the car at the end), The Devil's Backbone, the original of Let the Right One In - so many that I forget the titles! I actually prefer the minimum gore end of the horror film spectrum that relies more on psychological build up. If you like old Black & White films and can cope with the now somewhat hokey special effects, then look out for the original version of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting (Obviously it has been "homaged" to death since by Mike Flanagan, but I still prefer the original) and a British 1957 film Night of the Demon (which is sometimes called Curse of the Demon outside the UK) about a cynical rationalist University Professor determined to debunk a creepy Aleister Crowley like Satanist and his coven, only to become the target of a large angry fire breathing demon (which in fairness does somewhat resemble my mothers cat... but cool all the same!). The scene in which the Crowley figure is posing as a cuddly clown entertainer at a childrens garden party really stuck in my head.

Could you do horror movies with no unnecessary jump scares? Not just psychological thrillers though…

I was so not bothered by "His house" that I stopped the film before the end and I don't plan going back. Boring, kind of pretentious and overrated, to me.

Look at you glowing! I hope you're doing/feeling well & had a Happy Thanksgiving(if you celebrate). PS I appreciate the recommendations, as an adult, I find myself not caring for all the gore sometimes, no matter how desensitized I am.

My sister hates even a little bit of blood in movies, which makes picking a movie for the Halloween night way harder than it should be, so this list is perfect for me, (or her) :D

Although it's kind of an acquired taste and there's definitely a chance that you've watched it already, but I recommend the killing of a sacred deer

I’m ok with gore but I absolutely can not handle guns. I’m 16 and gun violence is so common in the world and my life it’s so scary and I can’t handle it.
