You mentioned that DVDs dont look that much different so i was curious, what kind of tv and player do you have? Bc older movies specifically look SO much better on blu-ray and 4K and I noticed this was a video you put out recently. I also have plenty of DVDs but I not longer buy them unless it's the only format available. Also, big ups on having Pontypool! Absolutely amazing movie. And I have a couple Blockbuster dvds too

While I do agree that Blu-rays have a much better visual quality than dvds, I think most peole don't really care about it. I remember when I replaced all my Marvel dvd collections with blurays and while I did notice the difference in audio quality and resolution, I don't think it really justified the price.

You really should give stronger consideration to making Blu rays your preferred format. I'm sure you have HDTVs, so sticking with those 480p DVDs, really doesn't make any sense. Even though a film is old, many were still shot on 35mm film which has a quality that DVD doesn't do justice. There's been huge upgrades in picture quality from many DVDs to their blu ray counterparts, not to mention more room for extras, they take up less space, and now we're seeing even bigger increases in quality with 4k Blus. I used to have hundreds of DVDs but sold most, kept the stuff that hasn't had a Blu ray yet. Like if you want to watch the first 2 Hellraisers, you want the Arrow Blus, you don't want to watch the far inferior Anchor Bay DVDs from 15+ years ago. Some older movies on DVD were shorter cuts that it's taken till their Blu ray to get fully uncut, intact versions of. As far as pricing goes, ebay and Amazon have great deals all the time on Blus, I've paid less than 15-20 for many, and you can always go the used option to save more.

I like Blu Ray and 4K for quality playback on my HD projector (I love recreating the big screen experience) and the good 3Ds are on Blu Ray. As for other good places to buy value priced movies...ebay, Facebook Marketplace (I've bought whole collections there), pawn shops (most are $1), The Dollar Stores for a dollar (not Dollar General), used book stores like 2nd and Charles, Target has a value section on older titles and black Friday specials get big real recent releases for half price or better.

Hi DVD are prone to scratch even you just want to remove some dust particles from DVD they get scratch permanently. When you play it stuck. In my opinion, you should collect Blurays some movies titles are less than DVD. so it's better to collect in Bluray it's scratch-resistant coating. You clean by Lintfree cloth and Isopropyl and its new and fingerprint free. Secondly, you will love Film due to picture quality, contrast and colour

It’s interesting how horror fans stick pretty closely to specific time eras of horror to collect. I personally heavily collect 70s to 80s horror movies. To me personally that was when horror was at its best and most uncensored. I noticed “wizards” in your collection that’s pretty random.

I'm glad you have decided to stay with DVDs. I upgraded to BD a long time ago. By that I mean that I'll get new releases on that format. Doesn't mean I'll buy my entire (huge) DVD collection again. However, I buy used for the most part. And the movies I just like on DVD. Still, one of the movies I got came with advertising of that time and the nostalgia hit me hard. Those were the days. Before streaming. So that's why I like that there are people that still get DVD.

Oh, you have to have Night of the Living Dead on the Criterion Edition. It is phenomenal what they have done to that movie. The music, the fact it's in black and white. I watch it only in the evening when it is good and dark outside. It helps the mood. lol My older brothers made me watch it with them on a small black and white TV. Yep. I was 9. haha Scared the crap out of me.

There's no other way to say it: it's a hard subject to talk about. Not collecting, no. I mean: horror changing styles and aesthetics. Horror definitely changed from the mid-80's after the 70's. It definitely changed in the early 90's after the mid-80's. It *definitely* changed in the 2000's after the mid-90's. And different groups of people jump off horror the bandwagon. They just lose interest in a lot of what comes out. Of course, this is weird but I was in high school when _The Blair Witch Project_ came out and I felt like it came from another planet. I was 16. I was like: what is this... I don't even trust my opinions from when I was 16. I didn't even think _The Shining_ or _The Exorcist_ were good movies at 16. So... people can be wrong. I'm even starting to like movies I hated / would have hated in 2000, 2001. Or at least, I'm having fun with them- especially _Queen of the Damned, Stigmata, Jeepers Creepers,_ or _Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2._ But... I decided to spend more time going back. Watching 60's, 70's, 80's, early 90's. And let me tell you: I feel the magic of these movies in my soul. I see the artistic, evocative, ambient, the nuance of the cinematography and camerawork. I start watching these movies and I wouldn't rather be anywhere else in the world. It's my escape. It's my nirvana, my utopia, my paradise. (As well as any amazing film from probably any time, I have to make that clear.) I am so glad I have committed myself to going back. It's so rewarding. So... this is where I have to say that when I started trying out millennial, 2000's and 2010's stuff... it was rough. I put all of myself into the experience and felt I was being insulted, belittled, neglected, taken for granted. These films, their "stories," their "characters," their awful writing, their attitudes, their misanthropy... they are profoundly disrespectful to me as a film lover and horror fan. I quickly began to hate these movies. Most of them. Especially the _Saw_ films, _Teeth, The Unborn, V/H/S, Wolf Creek, Evil Dead, The Woman, All Cheerleaders Die, Trick 'r Treat, The Forsaken, The Conjuring, High Tension, Cabin in the Woods, The Mist, Annabelle, Dead Snow, Nurse / 3D, Splinter, The Descent, The Strangers, Hostel: Part II, Freddy vs. Jason, Carrie, Piranha / 3D, Amityville Horror, Dream Home, Bubba Ho-Tep, The Collector, American Mary, Hellraiser: Deader, Ouija, Sorority Row, Sinister 2,_ all the _Texas Chainsaw Massacre_ remake/prequels, _Darkness Falls, Scream 4, Hood of Horror, Leprechaun in the Hood, Kiss of the Damned, Starry Eyes, Tamara, Tremors 3, Midnight Meat Train, The Woods, The Convent, Let Me In, Let the Right One In, Friday the 13th, The Happening,_ etc... (Many other examples, too many to list.) It's clear to me with horror being my greatest love in life, my greatest passion... if those were the movies I had seen first? I never, ever would have fallen in love with horror. And that just makes me upset and sad. I don't blame the people who love them, I blame the filmmakers with such a myopic, narrow mind and a small, insulting view of what horror is, how to explore our fears, how to portray our terror, how to understand our pain and our struggles, how to fail to property dramatize our lives and what threatens us day to day... By turning our experiences into cheap, 2nd rate ACTION thrillers with a little drama and sometimes, when they can be bothered, a little color or interesting music or interesting imagery. Though, clearly they are allergic to this most days. Apparently, instead of studying the tremendous horror efforts of years gone by like _Rosemary's Baby_ or _Texas Chainsaw Massacre_ or _Carrie_ or even _I Walked with a Zombie, Peeping Tom, Island of Lost Souls, Kill Baby Kill, Curse/Night of the Demon, Psycho, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, House of Usher, The Black Cat_ (1934), _The Old Dark House_ (1932), _Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,_ etc etc etc... they just looked back to the 90's and tried to make every horror film look like _The Bone Collector, Kiss the Girls, Copycat, Se7en, Kalifornia, Natural Born Killers, S.F.W.,_ etc. Just... UG!

First time visitor here... was actually looking for recommendations, but I think I can reverse that :-) Based on your 2000's preference: Under the Skin and Let the Right One In (not Let me In) are mandatory! ...and in general I recommend Shadow of the Vampire, Braindead (Dead Alive - Peter Jackson) Sleepy Hollow, Rosemary's Baby, Trollhunter and in the sci-fi cat. Moon, Gattaca, Event Horizon and eXistenZ. ...if there's an unknown here; enjoy!

Nice collection but also smaller than most that I have seen from US/UK/CA collectors. I have a very small horror section but will get more soon.

I would add Halloween series, Devil's Rejects, Bad Moon (my Favorite werewolf movie), and 30 Days of Night ( my favorite depiction of Vampires) to that collection. I'm a huge horror fan too and subscribe to Shudder.
