The Substance immediately shot straight to one of my favorite movies of all time. It just ticked every single box for me. Never thought I’d see a film that, at its core, is body horror, get so much recognition from places that usually snub horror films. And Demi is just such an unstoppable force.

You should watch Tokyo Godfathers! It’s the same director as Paprika and Perfect Blue, although it’s a very different vibe. It’s a Christmas movie though, so it’s the best time to watch.

I watched Lovely Dark and Deep based off your recommendation, and it was good! I think the title does a good job describing what the movie does well. I thought it was sorta thin and maybe even a little silly plot-wise, but for just a chill, vibesy kinda horror movie, it was excellent for that.

I saw Longlengs in the cinema, and although the creppy atmosphere was excellent, I'm still kind of confused on the serial killer, worshipping the devil but the devil entity is actually real theme. I need to rewatch it. Fave movie of the year is the Substance for sure. Then.. 2. Saltburn 3. The first omen 4. Oddity 5. Love lies bleeding 6. Poor things

Man I TOO wasnt distracted by the art quality in Uzumaki! I thought every episode had some form of unnerving, uncomfortable scenes that I very much love about Junji ito work! I gave it 4/5 as well

The Substance is my number one too. Here's seeing if Nosferatu can knock it off. ) I love reading a book or watching a movie and thinking it is the best of the year only to have it be one-upped. I had that happen to me with horror novels this year. I read Brom's Slewfoot and was blown away. I thought this is the best horror novel of the year. Then I read Dark Harvest. I couldn't believe how amazing the book was and how badly they messed up the film adaptation. The only better feeling is stumbling upon something and discovering a new favorite. Also happened this year. I was in a Little Free Library and saw Boston Jane by Jennifer Holm, this girly middle grade book about a city girl moving to a logging down in 1860's Washington. Decided to read it before giving it to my kids. Best Western I read this year.

I was shocked to find out I have watched 185 movies this year. My top five movies for 2024 (excluding rewatches) were all 5 stars: Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell, The Ladies Man (the jerry lewis one), What's up Doc, Perfect Blue, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.

Please watch The Beast with Léa Seydoux, it's a french David Lynch-esque sci-fi mystery/horror and if you enjoyed movies like Red Rooms, I Saw the TV Glow and Cuckoo, you would probably enjoy The Beast as well. It's one of my favorites this year!

The manga for Uzumaki is obviously leagues above the adaptation since it primarily suffered due to the short run time of 4 episodes. However, Junji Ito’s creativity and originality always shines, so it was still fun to watch it on the screen.

I had 5 five star movies this year; in somewhat of an order: The substance, Poor things, The wrath of Becky, Thelma & Louise, and Wingwomen ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Six 4,5/5 movies also that deserve to be mentioned (also in somewhat of an order): Speak no evil (-22), Three billboards outside Ebbing Missouri, Saltburn, Civil war, Parasite, and The handmaiden.
