Every single day he is provoked by his wizardry bullies. These wretched enemies slapped him so hard that he used his possum powers and reluctantly transformed them into possums. Every day he would feed them delicious strawberries and tamed them. They lived their best life with him until they realized the true reason to is kindness. He was plotting mischievous death. He turned them into possums so they could get their life seized in the 2-4 years they can live.

As a licensed rehabilitator, I've raised a bunch of orphans, and kept one that couldn't be released, for her whole life. They are the most interesting critters ! Though I definitely do not recommend them for everyone. If you decide to keep one, learn as much as possible, before you bring one home ! And meanwhile, put out the good word to those who have all the wrong ideas about opossums, and wish to cause them harm !

Hi, I just tried to find info about opossums, because we just found a hurt mommy with a full litter of 8, one is very hurt of his leg,and we don't know what to do, we called a big list of rehabilitation places and people and it seems like everyone is full 😓. Can you recommend what to do with their injured mom and the little one? He has an almost detached paw ☹️

I only kept one possum, raised from an infant. I am amazed they have not become a popular pet, non offensive, social and affectionate and low risk as a vector animal. My little possum would gape and wheek a bit, not as if to bite, she never did. Smart enough to learn a name, my girl would come for treats when called and spent more time roaming the house than in a cage. Now I highly do not suggest removing them from the wild, but these guys just make great pets. Why can't laws be more lax and more people breeding them for pets. Little Sissy just loved her meal worms and left over dinner scraps.

We eventually gave it to friends of ours who at that time lived in the country. It lived to a VERY old age of four. We loved it. We called him "Squeaky." Ha! Oberon mentioned that they loved grapes. We lived in some crappy apartments where the neighbors routinely tried to poison and run over the possums. One time, the coldest part of January we got home late, after midnight. As we turned into the driveway I saw a baby possum who didn’t run when he saw us. Then I noticed his tiny feet were frozen to the metal stair railing outside! We got blankets and gloves and used warm water to get him loose. We wrapped him up to warm him and I made him some warm chicken soup. He sucked it all up and seemed perfectly fine. He was so tiny! But we had several cats and didn’t want them to hurt him so we walked him, wrapped up like a baby back to where we’d seen his mom and he happily went home. He didn’t even ONCE hiss or bite or scratch.
@chinchilladivine816 жыл бұрын
Pappy Tron 😃 they really are misunderstood animals. At work, they call me doctor Doolittle cus the property managers put out all these glue traps and baby mice, lizards and even birds have gotten hideously stuck in them so I collect them, go out back and work them loose. I’ve hand fed found baby mice, birds, kittens... I’d love to have a pet possum!
@chinchilladivine816 жыл бұрын
Pappy Tron that’s so cool! I always feel like, if the poor thing was going to pass, at least someone was there to comfort, if nothing else. The same place we lived where the possum thing happened the apt landlord put out tons of this hideous poison out cus a couple mice were seen around. And I know they can be a problem but I can’t tell you how many times I’d find a mouse or a baby mouse in the throes of a horrible death from poison. They’d walk in circles, shake violently, gasp and have seizures, sometimes bled from their orifices... I’d pick em up and just hold them and pet them while they died. We showed landlord several kinds of cruelty free options that cost about the same but no. There was a TON of cats, both pets and strays, plus the possum mama and her kids, raccoons. We were terrified that they’d get into the poison too, or eat a poisoned mouse. It was awful. Figured it was the least we could do to comfort them.🙂
@chinchilladivine816 жыл бұрын
Pappy Tron me too! Yeah those landlords were complete dicks. They ignored us and dismissed us SO many times about a lot things. They moved in a dude that put rat poison in our cats food twice, tried to poison the possum himself, peaked in our windows, blasted music, pulled a knife on my husband twice and told my husband he’d rape me. That’s just the tip of a HUMONGOUS iceberg. We reported them, tried to settle it ourselves peacefully, called the cops...All to no avail.😠

LOL I had to relocate a entire family a couple of years ago. I took them to a spot by a local river where I knew they would have plenty of woods, water and numerous wild fruit trees trees. This was also an old garden spot where people that didn't have any land would planted hidden gardens by the river. Most of what grew there was stuff that was growing wild from previous years like small cherry tomatoes and corn that seem to come up volunteer from previous gardens. I knew this place because it was a old fishing spot I use to enjoy back when my health was better and I could get out more and enjoy life. I'm sure the little guys I released did great.

I found a opossum eating out of the bowl I put out for the stray cats. He was so cute the only thing I could do was to get him a bowl of his own. I bought a two sided dish, one one side I put in dog food. He seems to prefer that over cat food. On the other side I put in fruit, he loves bananas and apples. I also put out other things like table scraps and meat. He's pretty spoiled here. I found him and my dog eating out of the same bowl one night and another night my dog was sniffing all over the opossum, he didn't seem to mind at all and remained very calm and relaxed. I've named him Brutus and put out a bowl of food for him every night. I'd love to be able to cuddle and love on him but he doesn't have much intereste in letting me get too close. I've also been educating other neighbors about them as well. People compare them to rats and think they are harmful or carry rabies. So wrong, people need to learn about them and appreciate them.

well, its great to want to rescue opossums when they're mom is dead on the road, and she has live babies in her pouch, but please bring them as quickly as possible to the nearest wildlife rescue center in your area. There they will be assured to survive and be released back into the wild. Baby opossums can dehydrate very quickly and need immediate professional treatment. If you choose to raise one yourself, please get all the info you can. they need a special diet. They need to eat bone everyday after they reach a certain age. If they don't get the proper food they will develop a horrible disease called "metabolic bone disease" which will cripple them and they will be in pain and probably die.SO, please get all the info before you decide to raise a opossum yourself. Thank you for loving opossums!

My sister, mother and I raised 3 orphans whos mother was ran over. Larry, LeRoy, and Blossom (we later named her Donut bc my niece decided that that was her name lol I really suited her after she grew into her fat sassy personality). She was my baby and is still to this day 2 years later, very alive and wild. I released her once she was old enough and she stays in my yard and I feed her each night. She knows me and knows I'm mama. LeRoy (My mother's sweet boy) and Larry (my sisters gentleman) lived up until last year. I now have another orphan that my friend brought to me. His name is Loki, he's about 4 weeks. Such a cuddle bug 😍 he constantly wants to be held and licks on me for hours if I'd let him. He sleeps in my shirt all day long. I'm afraid he's already bonded, so much so that I won ve able to let him go into the wild like i did Donut. We shall see, I'm definitely in love so I don't mind either way. ❤️ You are so very wose and i love listening to you. I'd love to learn more aboit your religion. Also I teared up when he mentioned how sad it is that possums have no social life and leave their mommies never to be loved again yet seem to desperately want and appreciate affection. That makes no evolutionary sense, nothing about them does. Because God created all things and just about all animals are hard wired to recognize man's dominion and appreciate our company as pets. Animals are innocent bystanders and victims of our fall from grace, and God blesses those who show them kindness in this interim period before He makes all things new. I bet that each and every animal he has ever made will be in the eternal Kingdom one day. God made all things responsive to love and kindness. Evolution is garbage. That's why so many "solitary" wild animals have the capacity to enjoy human affection and companionship.

The possum's playing dead defense mechanism can be seen in other animals too. A gazelle for instance, will go comatose and let a lion chew on it. It's because if you struggle, the predator keeps doing damage to kill you. If you're already dead, the predator stops worrying about you getting away. So, the lion gets distracted for half a moment, and BOOM the gazelle is up and sprinting away.

One comes to the back yard every night and this video offers more info than any other I have come across. Tonight I'll start putting out more of a variety than the squirrels demand. Rather have an opossum out there but we also get deer, turkeys and once in a while a raccoon. Likely the opossum will have a little success finding a mouse or two that likely shows up for the corn and bird food.

Absolutely 100% spot on. This man knows what he's talking about..... I have two wild ones that visit nightly and they are exactly like that. After a few nights of feeding them you can almost pet them. They don't get rabies, they are immune to venomous snakes, they eat all kinds of nuisance bugs and ticks. Really cool little loving creatures. See my little petunia video at Stripervince1

Opossums, like all animals,are much more advanced than humans. They don't even argue with commenters while they are watching YT videos about keeping stray humans as pets.

You truly do understand these gentle little animals !! They make such wonderful low maintenance pets especially for someone that cannot have a dog or cat, or that are unable to care for the exercise requirements of a dog... Opossums are VERY clean and do prefer to use a litter pan (tip: Try just using folded paper towels in a cat litter pan and adding new layers as needed, or removing and replacing with fresh layers..... this is easier and less messy than wood shavings.) Opossums are very loving and become VERY attached to "their people"...I'm so glad I found your video.... You have such a fantastic understanding of these darling little animals !!Thank you !! www.BornTame.Us

I just found one in a parking lot today. The local official places won’t help and we’re trying to find someone who rehabs them. I might have to get a license...

I've done it... I've finally done it... I've finally found the only video on KZbin without any toxic comments. I hope it remains this way... But now I can die in peace, knowing I've finally completed my life goal. Bless your soul.

I had an opossum coming around my house. It was never a pet, but when in my house, I would put food out for it. The opossum loved anything with meat and or cheese on it. I was giving the same kind of diet I eat. He hung around my house for about 2 years before I never saw it any more. These days there are several different opossums coming around. I always appreciate when they come around. I'll say hi, and let them continue about their business. I used to have a Brazilian mouse possum as a pet. She was sweet, and I would play with her on my couch for several hours each day. Now, she would bite me when I went to pick her up. She interpreted that as an attack, but once in my hands she would settle down, and we had fun together. There was one time though, I should have got a clue she wasn't getting a proper diet. I brought home some Chinese food and gave her a piece of cabbage soaked in beef broth. She took that from me so fast I though she was going to inhale my fingers along with it. The pet store recommended a diet of cat food, which does not have enough fiber to give proper digestion.

This explains so much. They go all the way back to the time of the dinosaurs and almost unchanged in all those years.
