If someone comes from further away to get surgery (like another state or out of country if that's possible) how long do they typically have to stay if everything goes well?
@genderconfirmationcenter4 жыл бұрын
The total time one should expect to plan to be in the area is 8 - 9 days. We put together a list of tips here that might also be helpful for planning: www.genderconfirmation.com/travel-tips

I got top surgery almost two weeks ago, I am absolutely terrified to shower. I did it two days ago and it felt so weird, I can’t feel the top of my chest obviously, it just felt so weird. Also when water touched my chest I legit jumped or like got so taken aback because I’m terrified of the stitches possibly coming out too song. How can I reduce this fear or calm myself?
@genderconfirmationcenter2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reaching out! To reduce the fear, it can help to anticipate the water going down the chest and to desensitize the action by holding a water towel over the neck and squeezing it so water runs down the chest. The stitches will not come out. 😊 Hope this helps!

Today is my two weeks of top surgery, after I dry up from my shower, should i still continue with the antibiotic ointment on my nipple and scaring? or should just move up to Mederma Scar reducing?
@genderconfirmationcenter5 жыл бұрын
I would follow up with your surgeon's office to confirm your post op instructions as each surgeons instructions varies. In regards to scar gel (at Dr. Mosser's practice) he instructs folks to start that process 21 days post op. I hope this answer is helpful!

I was wondering, since I had batwing(/fishmouth, not sure if they're 100% the same) surgery, can I gently try to was the dried blood (from the drain holes, I got my drains out at one day post-op) from my nipples if I am one week post-op? or could that be damaging?
@genderconfirmationcenter4 жыл бұрын
So sorry for the delay in response here! We advise patients to keep their dressings as clean as possible during the recovery process. Specific questions should be addressed directly with your surgeon. For Dr. Mosser’s full guide to top-surgery recovery, check out this link: www.genderconfirmation.com/techniques-ftm/after-surgery/

if I shouldn't raise my elbows above my head for about 6 months post-op, how am I supposed to wash my hair? genuine question. I have very long and heavy hair so washing it is quite the job and I don't want to rely on my partner to do that for me for half the year
@genderconfirmationcenter2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reaching out! They elbows shouldn’t be raised above the shoulder in the first 6 months, but patients are generally able to raise their hands to the top of their head. Being mindful to keep the shoulders down and relaxed, making sure the elbows do not go above the shoulders, and potentially angling the head downwards at certain angles should ensure one’s scalp is able to be reached fully during hair washing.

Do you stop getting hair growth around the nipple after Periareolar surgery (all around the nipple)?
@genderconfirmationcenter5 жыл бұрын
This is one of the main reasons the peri is not a perfect procedure. There are a lot of patients who have persistent ingrown hairs that can cause infection/widen the scars. It's a real consideration with this surgery. There's little one can do but acknowledge the risk and make an informed decision. For folks who have a lot of nipple hair or very coarse hair growth one could consider electrolysis to remove them and decrease the odds of getting ingrown hairs/possible infections. Ingrown hairs can cause real problems a year or 2 years after surgery.

After having double incision, how soon after can you have the shower hit your chest?
@genderconfirmationcenter4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! Dressings will be removed & the surgical area inspected at the post-op appointment. At this point, Dr. Mosser can give you the go ahead to shower! The post-op appointment is generally 3-7 days after surgery. More information about this topic can be found here: www.genderconfirmation.com/quick_faq/can-shower-top-surgery/
