Maybe I’ve missed the boat in the past, but I have never been able to hear, directly from the designer, the method behind the madness. This is incredible. Truly enriches the system and my understanding.

Trevor, great work on this season and system! I think I would like to add to the opinion that the artwork in the intro was great, but the face animation was a little uncanny and off-putting for me. I think it may have worked better with more simple animations (character art moving, the occasional expression change on otherwise static faces, etc.). Nonetheless, I thought the intro was AMAZING, so cool and got me hyped.

This will be the last kickstarted game I back for several years. It makes me excited to have a game designed by someone who truly loves and has had a passion for many different ttrpgs for over 40 years. Btw Love that you brought up the one ring journeys as inspiration. I agree that the one ring is fantastic and worthy inspiration. Also, I don’t care if you use a.i placeholder art. Additionally, an Elric aesthetic would be AWESOME for the setting. I hope you might reconsider and make an Oracle for solo play. Mythic is clunky to me (especially if I’m already playing a simulationist game). I think a quick but detailed one page oracle would be a great stretch goal.

The verb and noun magic is reminiscent of fantasy novels too. David Eddings' Belgariad is the first example that comes to mind. Though in there it was the Will and the Word.

Glad you're not letting the AI art haters bring you down. What you are using it for is exactly *why* AI Art can be so useful. People who can't afford to hire an artist--or who are trying to find the RIGHT artist, and need time--meanwhile time moves on, the need for them to keep working moves on--are ones who can benefit from this immensely. Let everyone else cry and spit and fight over it, and you just do what's right for you. Love it! Again, fantastic episode for our first one and love the Q/A as well. I look forward to seeing more of this system in action, especially more magic to see just how potent it can be!

So if I can't afford something, is it OK if I steal it? That's the issue most people have with AI art. If the model is trained on art that has a copywrite, and you're using it in something that brings in income, that's stealing IMO. Trevor has a small channel, so it's not as big of a deal as a bigger channel doing it, but saying "I can't afford to pay an artist" is not a excuse. He only needed a couple of portraits done. Maybe that would have cost him $200-$300 if he wanted a half-way decent artist? Using the deep-fake thing to animate the faces is fine if you paid for the art, and the artist agreed with you using it that way. I would have preferred that he did the voiceovers with minis like he has in previous seasons. Oh, and the whole thing with calling AI voice generation "cheating" but being OK with using AI art is a bad take. Either using AI is OK or it's not, you can't just pick and choose when it's acceptable. Maybe he's OK with other people using AI voices though and it's only a thing for him because he is a voice actor. At the end of the day it didn't seem like too many people had an issue with it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he lost a few Patreon members because of it.

I love narrated after systems. Roll first, then determine what happens. The AGE system is great for this. It can be hard to get people who have been playing narrate prior systems can be hard. I had a group that played a lot of Exalted, which gives a bonus to the roll for describing your intentions in an evocative way, which sounds good, but it trains players to waste a lot of time describing intentions that may not play out when the dice fall. Getting them to understand that they can, and should, just say "I'm gonna attack this guy" then describe it after the dice fall was surprisingly challenging.

I have to say I am very sad after the first episode, as a professional visual artist, seeing other creatives resort to AI on their creative projects bring me down. As you yourself refuse to use AI for voice acting, I think you also understand very well the negative consequences of AI usage for creatives, as long as it directly affects you. I was not really able to focus on the content of the first episode after the intro. I probably will watch the second episode and see if this will work for me or not. I really loved your miniature intros. They were fun and creative. The AI animations looked jarring and deep in the uncanny valley. Man I was so looking forward to this...

Watched the first episode- looks interesting! I like the [VERB][NOUN] form of spellcasting, though it seems like it needs a high level of success to do the bare minimum- the "demo spell" seemed to be the bare minimum, and if I understand it correctly it required a roll of 40+/60% chance of success with a max skill level; do feats/items/etc. help increase this? Lorewise, I'm curious how the Iron Land magic shenanigans interact with the weave.
@shawnwolf5961
@shawnwolf5961 5 ай бұрын
If you pay attention, he already talked about how spell weavers have ways to mitigate that anyway. It's not really fair to judge a system we haven't seen fully come into play yet.

My thoughts on AI art are similar to yours. AI art is a useful tool for disposable or temporary art. I wouldn't want it for an actual commercial product, but for a free or ultra low budget indie project, marketing, or as a place holder, I think it's an amazing resource.
@jasonGamesMaster

I appreciate the commentary on AI. I was immediately upset about it, but after thinking a bit, I thought better of it. If the book is real art, then I'm down. Your game is probably the biggest competitor to my own nascent game, because we have been consistently doing similiar things (2d10, roll under, blackjack, Ars Magicka influence, etc) but still different which is also fun to me, lol Edit: The One Ring 2e is in some ways better than 1e, but imho, the best solution is a mash up of the two. I really liked the way that 1e had pools for combat, Councils, and Journeys to simulate teamwork etc.

I suppose I should have come here first to see your justification of your use of AI generated images rather than leaving a comment a few days late on the premiere video. Your weak justification leaves a lot to be desired and I can no longer support your creative endeavors. "We're *trying* to use human-made art in the physical book!" is a shoddy and disappointing assertation. The season 3 intro with still shots of minis was excellent and I wish I could understand why you decided to vomit on your channel with season 4's intro "cinematic".

I can actually see how this game can be tweaked for solo play without making too many changes. The travel system could work just as is (along with Myhtic) and combat would need some kind of enemy behavior engine (which already exists out there). The magic system would need a catastrophe meter or timer of some kind to make magic risky. The success level system in general seems pretty intuitive (at least to me as it's in line with me personal playing experiences and sensibilities 😊)
