These US Classics were interesting to say the least! With the return of Simone and Shilese, it goes without saying that the top two AA spots are taken already. The field has definitely got more interesting with Jade and Jordan rounding out the top 4 in the AA, and things are getting mixed up as some gymnasts face consistency issues while others are rising to the occasion, making a name for themselves. Who will end up making that 2024 Paris Olympic Team? This video analyzes the potential team members' competitions at Classics and shows my predictions for the 2024 Paris Olympic Team. Comment down below what you think!!

@@cocoroni1031the one who’s coming for a top 3 AA is Suni. She can outscore Jordan even with a FTY. If Suni simply hits a 6.2+ bars and her beam at nats (and also the fact that she’ll be an AA threat), SHE’S ON THE TEAM FOR SURE. If that happens, the only fight will be for the last spot. Jordan, Skye, Kayla… it’s not gonna be easy if they all hit.

@@cocoroni1031 let’s see how the “messing around” goes for her at nats. And if she had a really bad handstand they definitely didn’t took .5 for it, seeing how her score was. Her missed connection only cost 0.1. Suni can upgrade her beam and do a much more solid fx (need to fix her double L turn tho), not to mention her UB potential. Underestimate a reigning Olympic Champ is always not a wise thing to do. So let’s see how it goes at nats about these two then we’ll talk.

This is why it's hard... For several, Core Classics was the first meet we've seen them at in a while. I really want to see Skye, Jordan, Josc, Kayla, Leanne and Tiana at Nationals. One great or not great meet isn't definitive. Josc looks like she needs time to build up endurance and consistency but that month between now and trials can make a huge difference to someone who has the skills but is coming back to competition after injury. Next week will tell us who is really consistent - one great meet for Jordan/Tiana isn't enough. They need to keep doing it. Kayla had a great meet at Winter Cup but not here, after all.

Yes!! Jordan (and Tiana) were scoring lower than both Kayla and Leanne all last year. It’s absolutely possible all 4 of them are in the running for a “third AA” spot but far too early to say who of them would make the team. Suni and skye are in a similar position. Though they could be “third AA” or bars/beam. There are lots of possibilities for a great team because the USA has so many great gymnasts. I am starting to think jade is looking a lot more likely than josc though at this point

I agree with biles, Jones, lee, and Carey because biles Jones and lee will do bars/beam for team final. Then biles, and carey for vault and floor with Jones most likely the 3rd vaulter. The weakest spot on the team is the 3rd floor worker for team final and currently kaliya is a top 3 USA floor worker. I wonder if she’ll get a ticket to Paris solely for her floor routine.

@@cocoroni1031 that’s completely fair, but if suni pulls through that sets up a strong bars and beam line up with biles and Jones. I could see Kayla dicello cover that spot if she’s more consistent at trials since she is 14+ on all events when she hits. I think she’d cover suni’s spot but the reason why I think suni is still in the running is the difficulty she provides. She gives almost a full extra point on bars vs Kayla which could be crucial points USA needs. I think Kayla and Jordan are in the running for the 5th spot to cover gaps but suni gives a huge edge on beam and bars which is important on a beam/bars heavy quad since those events are scoring the highest. It will help compete against a really strong Chinese bars and beam lineup.

@@cgheat2397So you don’t think if Gabby manages to hit at nationals they wouldn’t take her over Kayla? I really don’t like how fickle and quick to write off Gabby people have been. Skye DOESNT HAVE very high potential scores on all events. She needs to hit 8/8 on nats (not only that but score 14.2+ on bars and beam) to be in the conversation for the last spot on the team. A solid cheng would help her immensely -doubtful tho. With Jordan’s hit routines at Classics (and the potential of improving fx) and Suni only looking better and better (almost a lock), Skye’s case is not looking that much nice, but at least one thing worked in her favor: Kayla’s mistakes. If Suni simply hits at nats a 6.2+ bars and beam she’s on the team FOR SURE. She’s coming for top 3 AA and can do it even without a DTY. So right now the team is looking like this: BILES, SHI, JADE, SUNI (if hits at nats, which she most likely will) and one of JORDAN/SKYE/KAYLA.

Her best so far is event final for BB & UB. She's not an all around lock, from what I can see not with Simone & Shilese delivery. She's working her way back from illness and not at full throttle yet. I'm a Suni fan. I told everyone who was still doubting her to stop and see ensnared the AA title in Tokyo. Many had the crown for gold/silver AA practically engraved for Simone/Jordan. I'll never say impossible. It is her health that is her biggest contender, not her ability or her performance. She's going to be likely what Douglas was in 2016-- edged out due to the 2/Country rule but will be an indelible force to boost the team scores if she hits both beam/bars.

I think Simone, Shilese, Suni and Jade are almost locks, and even without a 5th person that team is just fenomenal ..... the only ones that can add more will be Jordan with a better VT than Shilese , Konnor with a better beam than Shilese and Kaliya with a better floor than Shilease or even Jade ... so Konnor we know doesn't have a AA program, Kaliya doesn't have a strong AA program ... so in my team i will put Jordan instead of Skye ... or if my priority are medals maybe Kaliya Lincoln will have the stronger case for a floor medal if Jade have a bad day.

My only change would be to replace Skye with Jordan. Jordan is one of those gymnasts where you can put her on any event, and she'll be able to pull a decent score, it might not be the best of the three but in terms of a team final it would be of more use. You would just have to trust that she doesn't have another freak out like she did in Tokyo.

Jordan surprised me at the last competition. I thought she had no chance and Leanne or Kayla had the inside track for the 3rd AA spot. I now think Jordan has the edge now. Skye's falls at Worlds hurt her. Jordan made the team last time primarily because of her ability to always hit. If she hits 4 for 4 at US champs and trials, she's on the team.

I’m not ruling Gabby out like most already have in this comment section. She can very well show up at nationals and hit her 3 events there, get that invite to trials and compete AA there. Gabby potentially has a top 3 bars routine the US can use and her vault is absolutely top 5 especially if she brings in a cheng or amanar which will boost her chances. Her beam can score fairly well if hit as well … I’ll see how next week goes and see how fickle folks are if she manages to do better than expected 😂

My problem with Skye Blakely is that she seems to be inconsistent. How would the super-charged atmosphere at the Olympics affect her performance? Lee is looking better every time I see recordings of her and hopefully she will be in great condition for Nationals. Those kidney infections could well have been life-threatening illnesses. @@fitnessandfoodover4085the FIG is committed to including athletes from as many nations as possible and they can’t expand the total number of gymnasts without significantly increasing costs and infrastructure demands. So I doubt we’ll ever see a team bigger than 5. 4 up 4 count would significantly lengthen Olympic competition, so I think that’s dubious as well. I agree about the 2 per rule though. @@leykimayri Things are never equal. Genetics, mental/emotional stressors, health, money. It’s impossible to flatten inequity out. The way to practice inclusion is in qualification to the Games - which FIG has done. Barring the third highest qualifier from a final because of where they are from does not create equality. In fact, what usually happens is that their spot just goes to a different privileged athlete from a different privileged nation that just didn’t perform as well in qualification. This harms the integrity of the sport and does nothing to right the wrongs of the world.
@leykimayri
@leykimayri 27 күн бұрын
@@user-wi7kv4mw6t No things are never equal especially in sports. However it’s one thing not to have equality, and a totally different thing to give extra advantages while taking away chances that other countries and gymnasts can have. A third American will take the spot from a girl from another country who would really need the spotlight of taking part in a final to promote herself and her sport in her country. It may even give her sponsors. While it will do nothing for the 3rd American since she’s already 3rd behind two better Americans who will get all the spotlight in the US and all the better sponsors. Again if you want 3 Americans, watch the US nationals and the Trials which are coming. The rest of the world wants to see gymnasts from all over the world.
