The ivy clearing alone will make a big difference but I think it’s gonna take quite a bit of work to get that done. I think the house has more secrets to reveal.

Hello Phil. I spent my day today cutting out a bush full of 40yo ivy and I felt that I should pass on a recommendation. I got a 18v Dewalt Power Pruner just to have a go and did not expect much but it was just amazing. It was one of the moments when you say to your self why did I not buy this a decade ago. Anyway I do not know if you have one but I can fully suggest that you might have a look at one. I am not getting paid or sponsored in any way I just was blown away by how easy pruning became with this tool. To me it is an absolute must have.

Hey Phil! Interesting stuff! ... I think maybe, next video or so, try to get some sort of platform, etc., to go there so you can pull out the ivy, etc., from that side (& hopefully it won't go into the moat too much, and make your "pea soup" worse) & then, maybe, you'll get a clearer view of the brick work & it'll probably help you see into there a little clearer (without ivy, etc., blocking the light)

I wish you would plant some supertunias in all those beautiful urns😊 Supertunias do well in both full sun and shade , they are cheap and grow so fast and will fill in in a few weeks. Just put in some good soil and add a fertilizer. The best part is that you can just tussle the plant to dead head it, so easy peasy just like you like it 😊

You may have already searched, but is there any chance of finding any documentation in german or american war archives? Possible even french or other war archives? You might try a pressure washer into the hole, wash the dirt back at least unclogging the front of the hole. Ground penetrating radar would be interesting to see and perhaps opening up a single part of the terrace would be easier to fix than the front drive. Concrete saw a square out and worst case a few bags of concrete to fill back in. Maybe make lifting rings in the replacement block so it can be removed and excavated at will.

I cannot imagine that the tunnels were completely filled with dirt, it would not make much sense unless the previous owners were hiding something, which is an intriguing thought. Could you find someone that has a camera like they use to evaluate drain lines? It worked on the great pyramid void, lol!

Well, you now know that the tunnels are not fully flooded and so you will be able to walk around them without too much difficulty in the Summer. Personally, I would have jack-hammered the concrete out of the tunnel by where you park your cars and turned that into an entrance and into the main drainage point.

I was wondering if that’s where the waste came out or maybe a spring underneath that feeds the moat? There are probably tunnels that were mud flooded around 1890 or earlier. How interesting. We are missing most of our history. At least the real history. Good to see you in good spirits. If you store the boat upside down it won’t fill up with rain. Just a suggestion.
