Postcard Update

Enjoyed this thoroughly, from central Maine. But it was a little sad to learn that statistically, it takes 72 of our cards to get even ONE additional voter to the polls. Am beefing up my message as a result; I'm already personalizing them since I grew up in a [very red] small town in my target state (Nevada). And since I'm way too old to be out canvassing (I worked on my first campaign in 1968), I feel this is something I CAN do to have a positive impact, and what I'll spend on stamps will probably be more effective than merely donating that money to the DNC or a particular campaign fund. Have decided I'm going to try to get 1000 cards done by the mailing dates in October; I'm at 260 right now.

@@debmac53 Early on, after thanking them for being a registered voter, I say "This shows you care as much about America as I do." Then, at the end, I wrap up by stating (truthfully) that "I've SEEN elections that were determined by just one or two votes - so EVERY vote is crucial! PLEASE VOTE!" And then "Thanks much!" and my name. This means more writing for me, but it's been pouring rain here, and I have decades of experience writing notes .... grading papers and exams! So, I can go for hours - taking a break every couple of cards - without my hand cramping up or my writing (printing) becoming illegible. And this is such an important undertaking, I'm willing to put in the extra time to try to get my effectiveness level up from the 73 cards per voter they calculated from past data. If I can get to a 50:1 ratio, that means 20 additional votes for 1000 cards.

I would love to help but who pays for the postage? I cannot pay for the postage?

@@LoriBashaw Paying the postage is the biggest factor. I would send them an email, saying how many postcards you can write. Even 200 postcards help. But tell them you cannot pay the postage. I think it is possible that they may be able to send the stamps to you. If they find they are falling behind in people ordering, it is possible they won't be willing to send stamps in June, but may in September. In any case, just give it a try. But emphasis that they are not to send the postcards without including stamps. Good luck!

Hey Thank you for all that really interesting information. I love the fact that you've added house districts. They are so important. Maybe we can fill The peoples house with actual legislators and not the current "Clown car" of deconstructionists.

@user-op6sm3pj9j ..... MY Congressional Distrist is one of those that is on their list (Maine 2nd). We currently have a Democrat in the House - Jared Golden - but the district gave Trump his ONLY Electoral College votes from all of New England in both 2016 and 2020. (Maine awards the state's Electors based on who won in each Congressional District; it's not a "winner-take-all" parsing like it is in every other state but Nebraska.)

Ordered my postcards and now am heading to the door knocker information. I live near Portland, OR, so much of what I can do locally doesn't move the needle much, since it is fairly blue around these parts. I'm thinking I might want to take a vacation in September/October and experience some other part of the country and try my hand at knocking. :)
