A Minimally Invasive Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy is a surgical procedure to relieve pain/weakness resulting from a pinched spinal nerve.
Visit www.theswiftin... to learn more about Posterior Cervical Laminotomy at Swift Institute, or please call 775.348.8800.
The surgical procedure is designed to allow for more space for the spinal nerves to pass through reducing spinal nerve root compression. A posterior cervical foraminotomy can provide relief of nerve root compression causing pain in the patient with minimal bone removal. The wound is then carefully stitched closed and the patient can go home later that day.

A Dr. Cantor in Florida now does this but he uses an Ultrasonic Scalpel that will cut bone BUT it will NOT cut nerves or soft tissue. Imagine that!

I just had this procedure done yesterday for my c6 c7. I can already feel my fingers again. I hadn't in over a year. I hope it lasts, but so far, so good!

Had mine done at Kings College in London 25years ago - large eight inch scar as relieved compression at a number of levels - pain afterwards was horrendous and got DVT - however fixed my neck - very active with gardening , car mechanics etc

Does insurance typically cover this procedure? Is there a location near Dallas Fort-worth to get this done?

I have congenitally short pedicles in my lumbar spine causing moderate foraminal stenosis wih no disc problems.. Would this procedure work for me?...It is l3 through s1. I haven't been able to walk without burning in my feet for 25+ years and finally got an mri. My Dr doesn't realize the difference of primary vs acquired stonisis.

the hole where the bone is opened up to get to the nerve, does the bone grow back to fill that hole?

That's indeed the million dollar question. And the answer is that the bone doesn't grow back. Your vertebrae which were already weak to start with (hence the compression on the nerves) are weakened even further. In 25% of the cases this results in a complete collapse within a few years, leaving you partially paralyzed. If you're lucky a fusion can be done to release the nerve that's trapped between the collapsed vertebra. And then you get other issues like adjacent segment disease. Bone cement can't be used during this procedure because the cement has nothing to hold on to. That's what I've been told. Maybe the clinic disagrees and in that case I'd like to hear their comments.

@@jacquesmertens3369😢😢I was told the same by people who had the surgery . So what are the options?

@@jacquesmertens3369 Where do you get this info from? All scientific publications and research papers say it does not affect it at all. Those wing bones get weaker but are not needed for the strength of the vertebral column itself.

God God, I beg of you people, please do not get back surgery unless it's the ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT. My father in law went from being in moderate pain to now SEVERE pain after having 2 back surgeries these doctors promised would eliminate his pain. All these surgeons want to do is operate, thats their only solution. FYI - I have no idea about this specific procedure but I just want to warn a lot of you people in chat saying you want this type of stuff. Trust me, unless you are in SEVERE pain, surgery is not the answer.

All surgeries, even minimally invasive ones, carry a certain risk. However, the majority of patients are satisfied with the results and get symptoms resolution

That back portion of the vertebrae that gets removed ? Do they not cover or fuse those with plates? Does the bone need to be replaced? Wouldn't it make the vertebrae weaker?
