Hi Dr. Ibreez, thank you for that video. You've been really helpful in making me understand the UK system of medical education. Thank you so much. However, there are some questions that still bother me. I am interested in General Medicine, and so after FY2, I apply for IMT which would go on for 2-3 years after which I apply for ST. Is it mandatory to take ST? If I don't decide to do ST what would I be called? What is my designation? If I am to apply for ST, at the end I'd be consultant right? I would like to know what I'd be called at the end of core training or IMT. PS: I'm from India, finishing my internship soon. I would like to know what is the equivalent of IMT in India, also if ST is equivalent of MD General Medicine.
@RoadToUK4 жыл бұрын
IMT will not give you any sort of completion qualification. You'd essentially just be a medical registrar at the end of it. You cannot equate IMT or ST as you've mentioned.

If you change to an work visa, you need to check the provisions of your student visa first to see if it is allowed. Doctors working in the NHS can still do degrees alongside it, but the degrees are part time and started after already being on a work visa.

@RoadToUK4 жыл бұрын
You don't have to do foundation training if you've done an acceptable pattern of internship, but to proceed into specialty training, you have two options. You can either do Internal Medicine Training (3 years) and then specialty training (4-6 years depending on specialty and subspecialty) or if you are qualified, you can apply for specialty training and bypass IMT.

One question- Can someone with more experience in the respective field (and ofcourse with MRCP) enter directly to the ST4-5 level or everyone should start at ST3 level??
@RoadToUK4 жыл бұрын
ST3 will slowly be phased out for some specialties that are requiring 3 years of IMT but as is, if a specialty starts at ST3/4, that is the level at which training applications are taken. That means if the recruitment happens at ST4 you just can't apply or start at ST5-6.

Thank you mam for such an informative video. I have some questions .I will be very happy to know the answer from you. When the speciality trainee can sit for a FRCP/FRCS exam . How much possible it is to pass these exam , I heard that it is too tough and many doctor cannot complete it and need to change their carrier option . What is the truth regarding this . And what if a doctor fails to pass these exam . Will not they get the cct and become consultant without passing these exam.
@RoadToUK4 жыл бұрын
FRCP is given via nomination and has no bearing on your CCT. FRCS is exam based, and you must pass it during your specialty training. While it is difficult to quantify for sure if you will pass or not, there is a support system within your training that will help you if you need it. However, as you've said, if you cannot pass FRCS, you cannot complete your training.

If you're undertaking an academic degree, you would need to find a university who offers the degree you want.

Hello Ma'm, I really find the vLog useful and the background is amazing. Just a quick question - My wife is a dentist (BDS) here in India and would like to pursue Post Graduation (Prosthodontics) from the UK and also want to work in the UK. Could you please suggest right path for her and few good universities. If I go along with her as her depended then I am eligible to work as full time there ? Thanks Abhishek
