Most women's, voices get deeper as we age. You can imagine a true contralto.... I've been singing since i was 10 (at school... At home always). At one point 7th grade we were singing and practising, learning songs for 6 different sets.... At home before school an hr or 2, an hr before 1st class, then our fine Arts class. (Choir) 1hr, morning break 20mins, 1st elective clasd (Choir) 1 HR, lunch (in the choir rm) 1 HR, 2nd elective class (Choir) 1 HR, 3 more classes (singing to and from class). Home on bus- singing...hr or more. Then singing in shower, reading music at dinner, singing during homework along with singing homework, then bed. Weekends? Forget it. And I sang to the radio all the time, my fam sang around the piano. During holiday season with UIL and various public concerts, as well as nursing homes and hospitals..... Id have to learn 20-30 diff songs and was practicing 10+ hrs a day. All that singing can give one a WIDE range, great breath control and stamina, projection, resonance etc. I was singing Bass at 14 with a 10min warm up. By 15 I didn't Need the warm up.i started as a 1st Soprano at 10. By 17 I could sing anything from 2nd Bass to 3rd S. W/o warm up. With warm up I could make it to 1st S. Never mind environmental exposure (weather, allergens, smoke), if the singer is a smoker, quality of training). It takes time but not as much as youd think (calendar yrs)...... Just constant singing daily

Covers like this reenforce the fact that music is NOT about genre, its about talent and feeling. And this lady has those in spades. Unique and beautiful, love it.
@elizabethclaiborne646113 күн бұрын
You don’t understand what genre is. It’s a filing system for record stores. Musicians don’t use that, they perform in a style. You’ll see that word in the caption.
@josecunha697413 күн бұрын
@@elizabethclaiborne6461 Gee, Elizabeth, thanks for "womansplaining" music to me, and telling me what musicians do. I have only been alive for six decades, and listening to, appreciating, playing and creating music for all those 6 decades, so I'm glad someone finally laid it out for me. I am surprised to learn that "genre" doesn't exist. Here I was thinking it was the distinctive style of music people created based on their culture and life experiences. Silly me. I'll have to impart this "knowledge" you "bestowed" on me with my Brazilian, Latin and American friends who share my "delusion" that genre was a thing. Guess we mistakenly thought that we had learned music within the constraints of those mythical genres because of our geography, culture, our generation and circumstance, and that we had eventually grown to TRANSCEND those genres by appreciating the styles of other musicians and adding their distinctiveness to our own. Here we were foolishly believing that once you embrace music enough, learn to love it beyond the narrow confines of the style you first learned or were exposed to, and study it long enough to understand the beauty and commonality of the underlying principles, you could develop the skills or just utilize the RAW TALENT you had to blend disparate "genres" and create new and beautiful music. Something I naively believed this video is a perfect example of, and made my comment to that effect. But thanks to you we know that is all a myth sprung from a labeling system for record stores. By the way, what century are YOU living in, because I personally have not seen a "record store" in decades? Anyway, thanks for sharing what is OBVIOUSLY your DEEP and ABIDING knowledge of all things with us, and for gracing us with the wisdom of someone who is CLEARLY a legend in her own mind.

Necreon021 I don't play a lot of trad jazz. I'm in a 40's band. A dance band. The Moonlight Swing Living History Big Band. We are a Glenn Miller tribute band. In saying that, I do listen to more of the 40's era style. The crazy vibrato in the saxes, hat mutes for the brass, and a lot of wah mutes for the trumpets. Especially Glenn's sound. So people like Glenn, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, The count, Harry James, Woody Herman, Cole Porter, Tommy Dorsey, Les Brown, and some Johnny Mercer. My favorite modern band is Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. But then a lot of his musicians have other bands, like Eric Marienthal, Sal Lozano, and a few others. Have you ever listened to the Saturday Night Live band? They know how to play and swing hard too. The Seatbelts, the do a lot of music for a Japanese anime titled "Cowboy Bepop." They know how to jam too. Dixieland isn't too big even in the Jazz setting today. Louis Prima did a little dixieland, there are a few not so big names out there. There is a band I saw a couple years ago on youtube called The Dixieland Crackerjacks. I loved their playing. And you made a great point :P Hopefully this will fulfill all your Jazz needs.Oh, and few more, the Military bands know how to rip. I've heard the Army band a lot and I love them.
