Love your suggestion about something pretty to wear. I also learned to have a book to read during the 2 week postpartum holiday, and maybe some chocolate. My 2nd birth was very exhilarating and with the adrenaline, I misjudged how much energy I had and "crashed" 4 mos. later. So it's super important to rest. Little gifts for the older children are also a good idea. I had 7, and now my house is empty. Cherish the precious time!

~You are such a joy to watch. I agree with everything you said about preparing for baby. Slippers are great too. I also recommend a new Mama have face wipes nearby after giving birth. It is so nice to be able to wash your face when you may be too exhausted to walk to the bathroom. ❤ Also, give yourself grace upon grace.❤

I am expecting baby #4 within the next two weeks! I have 3 girls at home. I found your video to be very validating as even though we mothers know we must care for ourselves, we often sacrifice ourselves for the rest of our family, which sadly makes it more difficult on everyone in the long run. Thank you for the gentle reminder to focus on mom.

When I had my son 46 yrs ago 😫 Everyone would say if you don’t take care of yourself and rest It will cause problems when you get older. It sounds like your doing the right thing and we didn’t have all the wonderful things young mothers have now. My husband then didn’t even get to come in with me when my son was born. ❤️

What a wonderful video and a true gift for moms-to-be. So sweet of you to share such important tips that can help make mother and baby more comfortable and enjoy their special time. Also, new mothers need to be aware of and prepared for possible postpartum depression. Hormonal imbalance can trigger feelings and thoughts that can make this life change difficult. Self care and help from others is so very important, as you said. Best wishes to you and family as your addition grows and develops. ♡♡♡

Amen to rest, rest, rest! I decided to stay in bed for 10 days with my third and it was wonderful and such a precious time! And I healed so well! Another thing I learned for baby #3 was to bring a silky robe to the hospital. Moving around in a hospital bed postpartum is hard, but it is waaaaay easier in a slippery robe. Game changer! So excited about your baby #4! My #4 is due in January!

Andrea, first of all you look so beautiful and peaceful. Yes, I said it, you may be thinking, what?? But you do! I think it is so very thoughtful of you to take the time to speak and give loving tips and encouragement to other new to be Momma's. It's such a natural, normal thing for women to have babies that the new momma's really need a sweet momma or sister (you, ) to come by their side and say hey, just so you know, this has worked for me. Andrea, you are so sweet and precious!! Thank you for thinking of new momma's and showing them how you prepare for the birth of your little one. Please hug the boys for me, hey I'm a Nana and I've been through this. I know their all excited! I do have to admit, I hope you will be buying alot of pink. Lol. But whatever blessing you get, I know your baby will be brought up in a loving home. May God bless you and your sweet family during this exciting time! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! From Texas😘

Great information for moms to be. I am now a great grandma and things were soooo much different when my babies were born. They take the mom into consideration now so much more than back then. I think that is a great thing. You can’t take care of your babies and family if you don’t take care of yourself. You are blessed to have people offering to help. Such great advice, Andrea! I'm 48, so probably at the end of my baby days, but I did give birth to 12 precious children. I completely agree with all you've said and thought I'd offer a pump recommendation. I breastfed all of my babies except our precious number 12. She was a medically fragile baby and could not nurse. She was gtube fed. Thankfully, I was able to pump for her for 17 months, so she still received my milk. After she was born, we had a three month NICU stay and the stress made pumping very difficult. I used the hospital pump in the NICU, but only had a hand pump at home. One of our nurses told me about the Spectra 2 pump and how much it helped her adult daughter with her struggling milk supply. I ordered one right away and it was life-changing. I went from praying I could pump for at least six months (because it was just so hard to get my supply up), to pumping for 17 months, at which time our precious girl entered into the presence of Jesus. It was such a gift for me to give her my milk for as long as I did. I would highly recommend the Spectra pump if anyone in your community is looking for one. Target sells them, or they can be ordered online. Blessings to you and congratulations on the upcoming birth of your sweet one.

I’m a labor and delivery nurse and mom of four and I definitely agree with all your tips! I wish new moms were more educated about the postpartum experience before hand. Support after a baby is born is a passion of mine. One thing I can add (that was helpful for me) is to make some frozen peri pads before hand by soaking in witch hazel and essential oils and storing in the freezer. It sounds like you may have listened to the Down To Birth Podcast, which is very informative and supportive. Praying for you Andrea!

Great, practical video, Andrea! I had a lot of similar things, thankfully. I got some feminine, fitted Depends to wear after delivery and they were SO comfy! Way better than the unisex Depends (although I made do with those when my nice fitted ones ran out). I would also add the resting. Something that some moms might want to do if you don't have people bringing in food(which I loved) was making freezer meals ahead or buying crock pot items. You don't want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Best wishes for you and your growing family.

Very informative Andrea and I pray it helps some new Moms. Every word was so important. Back in the olden days…LOL….my babies are 41 and 44…. I was picked up at the hospital and dumped at home. Deep depression… alone… summer … hot…. lived in the country so no neighbors and in a mobile home. I don’t have good memories of giving birth and new baby time….😢 I wanted to make sure my daughters didn’t experience that! Our oldest daughter gave birth to our 1st granddaughter the day my Dad died. Awful day…..! Then I was busy with a drying mother after my Dad passed away… both my parents had terminal cancer at the same time. I will say I was angry ( totally unfair to my daughter and her husband who had waited a long time for this baby)….but mad because I just had that awful feeling she would give birth the same day one of them would pass away….and it happened. Our youngest daughter lives 2 1/2 hours away and had an emergency c-section the first time…14 months later ( total SURPRISE PREGNANCY) baby number 2 came. I would go and stay by the week…one week with her… home a week…back to her. Expensive because I was staying in a Hotel 🤷♀️…. I did that for 3 months …through the holidays… but her husband was one of those …”it is your job…your not back to work yet😢” I’m sure there are many stories like that…many Moms going through the depression with hormones, etc….unsympathetic spouses…etc… I PRAY AND PRAY FOR A HEALTHY DELIVERY…. HEALTHY BABY…. HELP FROM FAMILY …. BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 God bless sweet one …God bless !

Oh my, I am now a grandmother, but well remember this joyful but challenging time. Your advice to rest as much as possible is spot on. I had three C-sections and no family nearby to help and I was exhausted beyond belief...especially with my third, when there were two other children to care for besides the baby. I am wondering if you are going to still home school your boys? This is of course, your own decision. As a retired teacher I feel that in school learning is the best. However, beyond that, it is going to be difficult to home school, care for and nurse a new born and give yourself that important resting time. Do give this careful thought and best of luck with the new blessing that your family will soon experience.

@@PineandProspectHome One of the things I love most about homeschooling is the older children being able to experience the baby. I was a school teacher for about 8 years, in that time I had several children. I think once my kids and I left brick and mortar school to begin homeschooling, bringing home a new baby was such a different and wonderful experience for me and the older kids. Don't get me wrong, it can be tiring and have its ups and downs, but I think pregnancy and newborn/infant stage are such a life lesson for older siblings. One that isn't quite learned nor experienced in the same way when kids are away at school all day. No judgement if you choose to reconsider homeschooling, but definitely love the benefits of homeschooling when it comes to welcoming a new baby in the home. I've had my share of both experiences. 😉

In my opinion, the first month is a major challenge! If I did it again ( only had one child) I would keep the baby in my room 100% of the time the first month! My mother had 6 and would have had 9 she had 3 miscarriages. I was her first but only after 3 miscarriages! I was always in the tub while pregnant! Baths are so relaxing! I'm not sure if you've had issues with after cramps. Just thought I'd share to get something for that. I think they sell natural tinctures for the after pains, if you prefer staying away from over the counter pain meds. I first noticed them after baby 3, but I'd say they've gotten more significant each child after. I'm expecting baby 12 this fall. Also, I usually resort to using Depends (as in adult diapers) for the first days pp, because the large pads sometimes leak overnight for me. Oh, and I didn't and wished I would have gotten at least one bottle in case baby's latch is super weak. I have had babies with lip and tongue ties, one of which did not have it reversed because he was born during the COVID lockdowns. Having stress of unsuccessful attempts at breastfeeding during those first days pp and baby losing too much weight is taxing on mom's mental health, so here's to wishing you a great breastfeeding experience, but that's my tip, just in case. Having nursed so many babies successfully before my babies with ties, I didn't think I needed bottles or a pump, but having those on hand just in case might be something to consider.🤷♀️

@maryoleary20373 жыл бұрын
Liz have hope in knowing that this challenging time won't last forever. Sleep deprivation really impacts your well being. Do as Andrea suggests and take any help that is offered. If you are in a position financially, purchase ready made meals, perhaps frozen ones. Consider having a cleaning lady and don't clean before she comes. If there is a trustworthy teenager nearby, pay her to walk the baby in the stroller, while you take a shower. The most important thing is to lower your expectations of yourself and lower your former standards. It doesn't matter if your house is pristine. It is far more important to rest. I wish you the very best.
