Contact your local animal shelters, if they don't have one, they may put you on a list or put you in contact with someone who is looking for an adopter. A lot of people take them on and end up getting rid of them because its more than they bargained for.

He wasnt feed correctly and is very thin. I'm new to pigs but I'm the type of person to research everything till I know all the information I can then learn the rest by experience. I'm very happy to have him his name is Chippy
@mainemermaid65965 жыл бұрын
Thank you SO much for rescuing him. Please don't take this video's advice on feeding. Feed Pot belly pig (specific) kibble, and lots of fresh vegies and occasional fruits. Fresh water always - esp when eating their kibble. And change that pool water regularly. It can get filled with bacteria and become unhealthy. Your pig could use a checkup, and should have his nails done, and teeth checked. (The vet may want you to give him vitamins/mineral supplements for a while.)

@BeckysHomestead10 ай бұрын
I don’t give my animals meds. The best thing you can do for your pig is not over feed it and give it the biggest pen you can, so it can walk around. Pigs hate blazing sun, so make sure it has dark shade. Build it a pig house like Neil’s and give it hay so it can build a nest in its house. Give it a big water pan! ☀️❤️☀️

They are very long and curled and I'm scared that I will cut too much or possibly not cut them properly and cause instability. Do you have any advice for me? Anything will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
@mainemermaid65965 жыл бұрын
There are some good books on potbelly pig care, including nail trimming. I find it impossible to do. If they have plenty of room in their yard, you shouldn't have to do, more than every 3 years. Just take them to get it done right. They need their teeth checked anyway. And please feed potbelly pig-specific food, lots of fresh vegies, and fruits occasionally. Plenty of fresh water.

You mentioned at one point that you don't run over and maul the pig with pets and snuggles because they don't like that...I have been considering adopting a pig, but one thing I have noticed about myself is I am EXTREMELY clingy toward my pets. I would have to pet and snuggle and love on the pig if I get one, would it not like that do you think? Also where do you get a pig in the first place? Been looking at shelters and in the newspaper, haven't found anything yet...

6/19/2017, I own a sick pot belly pig who began wheezing 2 weeks ago and yesterday began coughing. I am retired on a fixed income and can't afford a veterinarian. Does anyone know of any home remedies I can use to help Blue? Thank you for your help.

In what enviroment does she live in? Maybe she tried to swallow something that got stuck in her throat. Was there any other symptoms before she started coughing/wheezing? Did she act different; tired, irritable? Has she been sleeping more than usual? Has she started spending more time alone/staying away from other people or animals?

They need to have outdoor space, fresh air, sunshine, and a pool to keep clean and cool! (😣 SO sad) Please take them to a vet who knows how cut their nails. Trust me, its almost impossible to do. Plus, they probably need their teeth checked by now too. Let him/her know they're kept inside. They may need extra vitamins/minerals from lack of sun exposure. Pot belly pig (specific) kibble, and lots of fresh vegies and occasional fruits. Fresh water always - esp when eating their kibble.

We just got our little pot belly piglet a month ago. He's about 5 months old now and only weighs maybe 25 pounds. His parents are 45 and 50 pounds. His belly has grown quite a bit in the past month as I'm sure I've been overfeeding him, oops. Thanks for the tips on that! He's inside now until we can secure his outside pen. My question is about digging. Will he root under the fencing to the point that he could escape or other animals could get in? Is there anything I should know about building his pen before putting him in it? He's likely going to be in a barn stall that has primarily gravel and dirt as a floor and of course we'll provide him with plenty of hay and a housing for his bed. My other option is a retired alpaca pen that is fairly large (16 x 30 I believe) and has a building at one end, but only a dirt floor that he could easily dig through. The great part about it would be all the room to roam he would have, but with Winter coming on in Ohio, I'm thinking the barn would be best until Spring. I'd love your thoughts on this as well as any advice you may have. Thanks so much for all the informative and fun videos!

Feed your *Pot Belly Pig kibble* from a farm supply store (amount based on weight - will be on the bag), and lots of fresh vegies and occasional fruits. Provide fresh water always - esp when eating their kibble. And change that pool water regularly. It will get filled with pee/bacteria and become unhealthy. Your pig should have his nails done, teeth and ears checked, and annual shots. The pig in the video is covering himself in sand after his dip in the pool, to keep away the biting flies, and keep from getting sunburned.

Hi, do you have any advice on raising a runt pot belly pig? I got two small females and it turned out that they were pregnant. The first litter came six days ago, but they tried to kill the runt. I'm letting him "pan feed" his formula sow milk now, but I'm not sure how to care for him after that. he's going to be an inside pet. disclaimer: the mother is already a small potbelly pig, and the father (I didn't mate them) was a "mini" pot belly pig, so hes going to be fairly small.

Hi guys can I please get some help. A friend of mine gave me a 5 Month old potbelly piglet, we spent a whole day building a nice house for him.we put a crate with some blankets there with some hay, but for 2 night in a row he doesn’t want to sleep in it. He would go and take they hay out the house and put it down right infront of the pen gate and sleep in that in the cold( I live in Africa do the nights aren’t that cold but still) I’m really feeling terrible that he chooses to sleep in the cold when he has a very nice house.
@BeckysHomestead6 жыл бұрын
Clearly he doesn't think the house is nice. Just give him a huge pile of hay. He will make a nest. Make sure the pen is plenty big enough and in dark shade. Pigs also need a lot of water. They like to get wet when they are hot☀️❤️☀️
@raymondduncan39256 жыл бұрын
Becky's Homestead yeah, thank you. I have a pen plenty big enough for our new addition, he started to get excited now when he sees me coming and runs all along the fence. Where he made his nest I literally built a makeshift shelter and literally just lifted it and put it over his nest, he seems to be happy.
