Pot growers bought a property next to the far side of our ranch. This ranch has been in the family for generations. Generations of families have been in the area and have gotten along well for generations. Pot growers are bringing in new problems to the area. We will see what they have been doing to this ranch.

A lot of the people growing in our area move here from the cities to grow. They didnt grow up out here and dont know/dont care about common courtesy and or just plain respect for your neighbors. Sad to see stuff like this happening more and more. It seems to be getting a little better as pot it legal now and the market prices are way down so not as many illegal grows are happening. The illegal grows are 10x worse than the legal ones about leaving trash and making a huge mess of things.

I have a composting outhouse on my property. It’s a simple system. I built it for nothing out of materials I had laying around in my boneyard. The only money I spent was on new toilet seats. It’s a two seater. Below the toilet seats is a couple of plastic trash cans. I start off with a couple of inches of sawdust from my chainsaw. Just inside on either side of the door are a bucket with sawdust and the opposite side is a bucket of ash from the woodstove. I have a Sierra cup for a scoop. Under a coffee can (one on each side) is a roll of toilet paper. After pooping I dump in a scoop of ash and then a scoop of sawdust. When the can is about a third full I pull it out the back of the outhouse and dump it in a fallen over tree root hole. Then rinse out the can and repeat the process. I dump extra sawdust over the dumpings and cover with more leaves, pine needles, cut grass or whatever is available. Then water it down real good. It definitely works. In a few years it’s not possible to tell what has happened there. This method produces very little (if any) smell, and doesn’t pollute. This won’t help with your problem, but it’s good information for anyone who wants a non-polluting way to poop.

Some of his neighbors have been doing the "right thing" the "right way" for longer than he has been alive. I'm also guessing he went to school with some folks in that area i know we'll. I will never condone illegal dumping, but to call this a marijuana problem is overreacting

Working in Humboldt County this summer we were patrolling to get to know the area,wildland FF, we came across some wild blackberries on the side of the road. We stopped to pick a handful when out of nowhere the local pot farmer told us to move along no fire here. We had our nomex on everyone west of the Mississippi knows what that is. The farmer also had his protection in his hand. We moved along and those blackberries were delicious.

We would hunt in areas with pot grows in Northern California. Legal and illegal ones. Most of the time the legal ones were fine, no issues. But the illegal ones, especially the ones run by the Mexican cartels are extremely dangerous. Dangerous for the environment due to illegal chemical use and pollution, and dangerous to anyone who happened to stumble upon their hidden operation. A lot of people have been killed by these growers in those parts. It’s a very “Wild West” lawless area along the Emerald Triangle.

I live in central British Columbia, Canada, where pot growers were a big problem. Being city types, they didn't understand that in the 'middle of nowhere' everyone is watching. They'd move up quietly from the coast, post No Trespassing signs every where, and lock all the gates. That's a red flag, as no-one ever locks his gates. They would build a grow house sorta like a big poultry barn, and run it with one or two diesel generators, which could be heard for miles if you listened carefully at night. Of course, they'd make a bit of money for a few months, then get busted. The now-abandoned place would be a mess, garbage everywhere. They never could figure out how and why they were busted, but of course it was because they made no effort to fit in. If they'd been friendly, attended pot-lucks, gone fishing with the neighbours etc. they would have escaped notice. They were all recent Chinese immigrants, although I'm not sure why. The legalization of pot in 2018 brought this problem to an end. I do know one guy who has run a small indoor grow-op for years and years, but he's a respectable, well-liked member of the community.

Post the latitude and longitude co-ordinates of back road, clandestine entrances to the pot farm online. They will beg you to take it down, and do what you wish. Also, when you put out a camera, put some bright object on the other side of the path, to take the eye away from the camera. Even an empty beer can will do.

It is a shame that California has so completely deteriorated into such a mess. The police and wardens in most other states would be quick to put an end to these types of problems. Plus, the local judges would financially crush those that abuse their neighbors and land rather than protect the criminal at all costs like CA does. In reality, find out who the principals of the pot growing operation are and contact them. They obviously have an enormous investment to protect there and would usually be quick to discipline any employees who jeapordize that investment.

I know a family with a big cattle ranch and vineyard in Anderson Valley Mendocino county..they don't even let there kids ride horses on the ranch for fear of running into pot growers on their own property...it's a shame

I'm a guy who wanders and fences are just fences. Having said that, I do respect private property, but if a geological feature requires a quick peek on the other side of the fence, I'm not going back into town and find a Plat book. I'm crossing the fence and willing to have a confrontation if that's what happens. I'm a net positive hiker. I pick up trash. I fix fences or close gates. I know it's legally wrong, but guess what? Nobody owns the land. We only hold titles to the land and the minerals. The land owns us.

Does anyone know approx where their ranch is? Hope he's careful - a family member of ours is friends with a county sheriff in CA and he ended up in a gun fight with cartel growers. They were up against full auto AKs and people who apparently felt they had nothing to lose. Fortunately they won the gunfight with no losses on their side

Considering the max load of a CH-53E Super Stallion is a very impressive 36,000 lbs or 18 tons(@ sea level)...you'd have to make do with a far less impressive D4 high track & work 4x more hours 🤣
