Learn how to make Potatoes Romanoff! About 10 years ago, I took a trip to Las Vegas with a group of food writers, and while I don’t remember much, I do remember learning how to make this incredible potato gratin from Chef John Schenk, at his restaurant, Strip House. Visit foodwishes.blo... for the ingredients, more information, and many, many more video recipes. I really hope you enjoy this amazing Potatoes Romanoff recipe!

I made this for one of our family Christmas dinners this year. Off the charts delicious!!!! Gotta plan ahead so you have the time to fully cool the taters after baking so they can be shredded. Made up the final dish ahead and put it in oven as guests arrived to cook. Sprinkled crisp cooked bacon on top to garnish once it was taken out. There was NONE left! Thanks Chef John for helping me make a memorable meal. Oh... by the way... I served it w Chateaubriand and bacon wrapped green bean bundles.

We are senior college students and our graduation commencement ceremony got cancelled due to the virus, so we celebrated our accomplishments as best we could-with food! One of my friends is a professional chef and loved this dish sooo much! I was pretty proud of myself, lol. A week later and myself and my boyfriend have now taken social distancing measures and are staying home, so I cannot wait to try out more recipes on him :) I’m thinking the Turkish poached egg recipe next. An outstanding recipe of the first order. I might add that what is left over is excellent for making potato pancakes. Make the patties (pack firmly) to the cook's desired size. Preheat in a frying pan with some vegetable oil and butter (not too much or too little). Fry in a hot skillet; two cycles at three minutes a side. Remove when you see a crust somewhere between golden and a little dark brown. Remove, eat immediately with a topping of sour cream or applesauce. Tres magnifique! Good luck!

Made this for my husband for his birthday dinner tonight. There was a little potato that wouldn't fit in the dish so I put it in a little dish and cooked it for lunch. Can't wait for dinner!! Thanks Chef John!!!

I've made something similar for the past 40 years... especially serves good with ham. I absolutely need to try this as mine is rather dense... but delicious. I add Cream of Mushroom Soup and top with crushed buttered corn flakes for a crunchy crust. John's do look and sound amazing. Any adaptation of a baked potato is sterling in my book.

This recipe tastes divine. I followed it completely but when it came to doing the 'Method' I must say that using a hand grater to scrub the cooked refrigerated potatoes with their skins was too labour intensive and the quickest way to take the skin of your finger tips! So I used a hand mincer with a coarse filter and the scrubbly lumps came out just right! Loved the two forks idea to keep it from becoming a mish-mash. I had no sour cream or creme fraish so used Greek Yogurt with a teaspoon of lemon juice and one of lime juice. Sprikled the top with hot paprika which contains chilli. Utterly wonderful. Thanks for providing a unique and refreshing new recipe. Oh one more thing - couldn't find the potato variety so used yellow waxy type - Red Desiree would work well or any red skinned potato.

I totally agree on not topping it with cheese before baking. I've done that with similar dishes dozens of times. Every time, as I was doing it, I would think, "This is a good idea." Then when it comes out of the oven, I would think, "That was a good idea." And then when I try to get past that layer of cheese leather with just the side of my fork, I would think, "It really didn't turn out right this time." Eventually I realized that "this time" was every time. If you're going to top with cheese before baking, and it's something you're supposed to be able to eat without a knife, go very, very easy on the cheesy.

I think you may have created an addiction... Our 10 year old niece is staying with us for the weekend and wants me to cook up some new york steaks on my charcoal grill. So the wife says, well now you have to make Chef Johns potatoes Romanoff, LOL. No problem, although I didn't bake the potatoes last night, I did em earlier today and they should be cool enough in 5 hours. 1 of her favourite meals is another 1 of your offs. The beef stroganoff. Another huge hit around here. Cheers and thanks for helping me look like a genius in the kitchen.
