One more thing! Canon EOS R has a Cropped mode in HD. I didn't use it in this video because nobody wants to use it since everyone hates HD and everyone hates Crops..... buuuuut, it's even sharper than canon's full frame HD. I'd say similar to the 4k super35 in the Sony. The HD crop was what I was using in my 4k vs HD video. But this is all pixel peeping. I'm sticking with HD Full Frame in IPB Codec for youtube because I don't expect my viewers to pause my video, then scale it up 1200% to look at my pimple.

I shoot with the Sony A7III and very impressed. However I shoot in 1080p more often for faster workflow (1080p even on 75” 4K panels look very pleasing). Had the EOS R been available at the time I got the A7III, I may have considered it. Aside from image quality - there’s functionality, focus integrity, and durability. I wish the A7III had a rotating display - I would give up the twin card slots for it. The A7III focusing in day and night is almost as fast as my eyes. Durability? Time will tell. If the EOS R was full frame, had dual slots, and cost a little less, it maybe camera of the year. But for now... A7III reigns supreme.

After watching Armando's video about combining the EOS R with a Ninja V external recorder, I'd say the answer is definitely yes. When he showed the comparison between the 10-bit, externally recorded footage vs. the 8-bit internally recorded footage, I could definitely tell a difference. And the 80D is stuck at 8-bit recording. I also noticed a pretty big difference in sharpness between my videos (shot on an 80D with a Sigma 18-35 f/1.8) and Crimson Engine's videos. So confused. This is literally the only video I’ve seen comparing Canon’s HD video quality to (any other company’s) 4K. I’m only speaking in terms of sharpness, but how are you getting such different results than others?
@masononemine17028 ай бұрын
Its called being intentionally misleading. I had no idea about how any of this worked when I watched this 5 years ago, but now that I have been into photography and filming for a while now I see straight through PotatoJet's crap. Truth is, Canon just uses more sharpening and contrast on their standard profile and it is so incredibly obvious when you look at the edges of things, they even have the hard outlining that over sharpening produces and somehow this guy talks about not wanting 4k because of how pores would look?. Also, very subtly but he made sure to over expose the sony footage in many instances, so that on top of having lower contrast it made the Canon just look better. The Sony actually has both better HD and 4k with better dynamic range and low light performance (which he conveniently does not talk about) and for colors , I honestly dont get it one bit, if you are a photographer or someone who shoots film for youtube you are almost always going to put ur camera in Log profile and grade the footage afterwards which for the most part negates whatever color science the camera had, he even talks about the footage of the dogs on the beach and how everyone loved the colors on that giving the credit to Canon when he clearly graded that footage himself. In my experience, unless there is something horribly wrong with your camera, there is not a single camera out there for whose I can say the color science on it is bad its all just BS. The guy is somehow delusional enough to say that the Canon's crop mode HD looks better than the Sony's super 35 4k, what in the.

I like A7III footage straight out of camera better. Why? The overpass footage is the prime example. EOS-R gives a higher contrast image, but doing so by crushing the shadow. A7III on the other hand preserve details in the shadow much better (just look at the detail underneath the bridge.) Furthermore, EOS-R tends to create warmer image, to the point of being too warm in some cases (just look at the footage of an old man playing Yamaha), while A7III gives you a natural color of the scene. A lot of people like this high-contrast, warm effect of Canon camera but for me they just look fake and unappealing.

Often you are forced to underexpose way too much and brightening in post doesn't look that good anyways. Such a headache and a distraction once you see it :( I'm now exploring the picture profiles to avoid this issue, but from what I know you still need to take other precautions and invest extra effort into grading when you use picture profiles....

Dynamic range looks pretty bad on the Canon. The blacks were always crushed. The a7iii by default retained a bit of the shadow detail.

Liked camera #2 right off the bat. I would never be satisfied with the footage from camera #1. Seems like Sony tried to get the specs right but ignored the overall look which is much more pleasing in the Canon footage. Thanks for doing this test, by the way, it completely relieved my worries that I might need the A7III. Frankly, I like the footage from the Fuji X-H1, at a hunk less money.

I just plunked down for my first mirrorless, I COULD have gotten the 61MP Sony A7IV, but then I saw this video. Just look at those rich video footage! Plus there is that dust shield on the EOS R, so my camera is an EOS R to compliment my 5DS R.

Disregarding the crop in 4k and 180fps and the fact u cant do 60fps with ef lenses and u lose dual pixel in 120fps and 120fps only in 720 and manual exposure in c-log... the quality of the 4k and 1080p is garbage. They both look so soft u would think the 4k was 1080 and the 1080 is 720. Edit: i love your videos. Also the eos r is an ok camera.

This! And I think this is generally the problem I've seen with Canon's recent releases. Too many compromises that most other vendors aren't making with the crop and unsual features missing depending on what lenses you use or what resolution you shoot at. I don't think they mentioned that the autofocus is completely turned off in 120fps mode either.

Eye opener, people always trash CANON EOS-R specialy nikon and sony users. This is informative and very convincing with the facts presented right before our eyes. HD video is the only thing to go without bursting your storage drive with massive GB of files for one clip. Thanks i encountered this video, i am planning to get a mirrorles camera for my new job in the near future.

The canon footage looks like its artifically sharpened. If you look at the scaled up video the contrast on the edges are really strong and seem really artifical and thats what i like about the Sony cause they dont have this

Professional broadcast work - Sony. Consumer personal work - Canon. For me at least at the end of the day it’s the client that sets the brief and that is usually uncropped 4K footage that will be graded. For vlogging I don’t really care what camera, gopro, iPhone I'll run sticky tape through a matchbox if results in an image.
@exogendesign45822 жыл бұрын
using Sony for Professional Work? Yeah if you have 2 or 3 cameras spare to use if one breaks it but if you only have 1 gear? I'd go Canon all day. Build better, I had the a7iii after a year of shooting weddings it can only record up to 14minutes then die, I only get best of my money for a year and my 80d is rocking, I get the EOS R now to pair with my 80d and never have issues. Sony for Professional work where time is crucial is a no go for me, and buying 3 sets of camera for such thing is another no go for me.

The comparison photos look more desirable in 1 because that’s what cinematographers would expect raw footage to look like before post-production. You have more data to play with in a program like DaVinci Resolve where you want a more flat color profile. The EOS R looks nice for a person that doesn’t bother with post production color since the contrast seems to be crushed. There should be a Corridor Digital episode about color and post that covers this more articulately.

DR over Mbps anyday. Especially if one lives in a tropical region, the A7iii will save lives in these light conditions. Personally neither is good enough except for vlogging and low budget shoots..

@@billjohnson1816 In prosumer cameras we are stuck with crappy codecs and wrappers. The only thing changing is the bit rate which is why everyone is going hallelujah..
@billjohnson18166 жыл бұрын
@@thepixelwizard01 true. more mbps is good but going from the 7III's 100mbps to the R's 480mbps falls way lower on my list of priorities compared to: 4K uncropped, low light, DR. Several youtubers are arguing 4K doesn't matter; "can't tell 4K from 1080p "--- if you can't tell those apart i doubt can distinguish the extra bitrate.
@thepixelwizard016 жыл бұрын
@@billjohnson1816 Hah! So true. There is more to cameras than just KZbin, it will be a sad day when manufacturers start bringing out cameras just for Vlogging. What we need is better codecs that handle HLG and 4k more efficiently and at low bitrates. Right now the BMPCC 4k is about the only camera that looks interesting..

So, the EOS-R is good for video of you are sitting in 1080p... Cool. How does it's 1080p compare to older (cheaper) 1080p only full frame cameras? Also how does it compare to APSC cameras (that are much cheaper) that shoot 4k in the same crop of you're going to shoot 4k? Basically, I'm curious as to if there is a better option out there for a lot less money.
