on high civ5 difficulty on quick speed you kinda need to have won by turn 200, on deity turn 160-180 is the safe range to win.

While on the insane growth trajectory, you do have to produce/upgrade units regularly, so that power grows in parallel. That power can forestall the decision to start a war, and certainly then you're not so late getting to the field once it does start. Also - yeah, sometimes Civ 5 just doesn't let you shoot. Had that problem with artillery units firing on a city the other day. Buggy, I think.

mistakes that could've been avoided: when you workers were mostly idle you should've built roads/railroads, not during the war. Also, you probably should've upgraded as you were getting the units, and not wait until a war started out However, you did finish a game until a victory condition, which is a big improvement!

Amazing game! With my 1.5 k hours in this game i can only pay respect for making such a good job - develop from utterly useless start to such playable empire. I'm sure 99% of players would immediately reroll such start from the beginning.

You should always have a standing army. AI will always attack a civilization with inferior army if the gap is too big as they know you will be easy prey. I know it hurts the economy paying for maintenance but, unless you have a easily-defensible choke point, you need to keep the other players on their toes. Attacking weaker civilizations to conquer their land is also very important.

Honestly, one of the worst things about civ is that there IS a victory. If you could, in any civ game, simply disable all victories and just play until you decided your story was over, which Civ game would you choose, and how would you play? If all you need to do is survive until your story is "done," how far would you take it, and what story would you tell us?

I think you focused way too much on growth and not enough on military production and an earlier war. You also really needed to choose a victory condition sooner and work towards it. Both science and diplo victories in Civ 5 are much faster and easier to achieve for both you and the AI

He had this same problem in the most recent game he did with the Yogs. If I were in his position, I think I would have gone for the Diplo Victory. He could have easily won the first vote if he got just a couple more city states. On the higher difficulties like Immortal and Deity, war is almost never the option. The A.I. will almost always out tech you and therefore win. The best option is to avoid war at all costs and simply survive if it happens.

Liberty was a better option than tradition, but Piety was the obvious choice. You want Salat (+4 hammers), Haiji or Jizya (+3 food, hammers, culture or +6 hammers, gold from GT), Feed/RelCen/Devoted(+3 food or +1 prod, gold, happy or +3 prod +3 gold) and of course Apostolic (+5 to everyting) before anyone else can yoink them, and ASAP for snowballing. And thats not including all the juicy bonuses from Piety itself (Garden, culture, science, gold)

@@Crytaljam Yeah, if you were to subject yourself to the base game in 2024 for whatever reason, Piety and religion are terrible. You'd probably want to do liberty -> patro/commerce -> ratio or something, and aim for a diplo victory. In Lekmod all 4 starting trees are viable. Tradition exploits a good start and snowballs but struggles in the late game, Liberty exploits good land making a stronger foundation for late game, Honour exploits vulnerable neighbours and city states for quick expansion and a strong late game, Piety is flexible, scales into the late game, and is the best option for a bad start.

@@KFP_Prophet Tradition being bad late game is very counter intuitive. On the base game, tradition w/ few cities sucks at production mid game and you're vulnerable to attack, but late game is excellent at science and can win wars using their tech lead (first guy with bombers and nukes). Liberty is basically no-go for AI games since the AI aggressively expand so much and you'll get killed, but for PvP is fine though hard to master, esp the happiness problems

@@Crytaljam Trad and lib are pretty similar between base game and lek. Trad exploits a good start for an early lead but lags behind later. It's strong for late games in base because Rationalism is OP and works best with it's tall play. In lek ratio is weaker and not as tall orientated, Trad will basically never win a science game against Liberty in MP. Instead one would normally go honor/commerce/autocracy to make use of the tech lead, or go aesthetics and try to push culture. Piety is actually more the squishy early game strong late game tree in lek.

You can only win this by redoing everything from the start yer opening was awful and yer strat is just bad given how bad 1 tile is as a start yer early game should be preparing for war and yer mid game should be total war
