So I started a Gaul game and I gotta say it might be better to go pingala especially if your capital has good food production. Promote science to get industrial zone as fast as possible. Crank out units and mines for culture gain and then swap pingala for magnus after getting industrial zone and promote for no settler food cost and just spam all your cities. Pingala can be moved to second city at that point.

Thanks for this series Potato! I've been playing a hotseat game with my roommate, and Gaul is very hit and miss with the Hermetics. If you get lucky with ley line placement, then it is golden for making up for the lack of city center adjacency bonus, but my capital in this game has an entirely wasted ley line until we hit the next age. Overall, I'm enjoying the ability to ignore early game monuments by just churning out high production military units and building mines; it gets rid of that tedious feeling you get when most civs have such a static build order in the early game.

I would strongly recommend settling a coastal city and going for the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, purely for the extra charge for Great Engineers alone. The numerous early industrial zones will ensure you generate more Great Engineers than anybody else for the rest of the game, and that extra charge will come in handy more times than you'll be able to count - particularly the ones that give workshops bonus culture, the one that builds a free workshop and factory, and the ones that boost wonder production.

The workshop which you said would take 90 turns to return on the production investment takes 65 turns. +3 production for 65 round equals 195 production. Also that does not include the value for when a citizen works in it and neither does it include the added benefit on Great Engineer points. If you use a builder (current cost 90p) and you improve 3 tiles with them - each time adding +1p for the tile - they pay themselves in 30 turns but don't forget that they become more expensive, so building a workshop is better at this point in time but after the pyramids Builders become incredibly valuable and are better than workshops (if you don't get pillaged) which is hard to do with an Industrial complex from Gaul. I still think workshops are very worth it especially with a Civ like Gaul and an aggressive neighbour. But that's just my opinion.

Yesterday in my Gaul game I wiped out Scythia, Kongo and the Inca in the ancient - medieval era thanks to the oppidum's insane production boost, then after the wars, with the whole world hating me I started to sim -city my empire with the Gauls insane production and culture, built campuses, entertaiment complexes and even more oppidum's in nearly all of my cities. About when I got to rocketry I decided to go for a science victory because most of my cities had 80-120 production and I was making 890 science per turn when the AI closest to my science was making 120 science per turn. I also picked communism for even more production and science. Grabbed the royal society building in the goverment plaza, constructed 6 space ports in my cities with the most production and in all other cities I started spamming out builders to feed into the space race projects for a turn 329 science victory. I remember that you once did videos called something like "I save your disasters" where people sent you their savegames and you tried to correct their mistakes. And that was not always possible.
