It's like nobody truly understood how incredibly broken the Mongols horsemen were in real life. They conquered most of Asia and it was actually the brothers fighting after gengis died that prevented them from making it into true history books as a massive empire. Lots of factors to consider when making that choice, the effort needed to spread the religion can be quite a resource drain, but a good religion is very helpful. In this case i don't think he would have been able to spread his religion as fast as he conquered land. (Spain's conquistadors convert cities when they take them so spain using a religion to aid loyalty when conquering is a good strat)

What I tend to do as Genghis is to smash down early civs to a non-coastal secondary city (taking their initial capitals is always my goal) then leave them locked in place by my conquered cities essentially turning them into city-states is in a world dominated by my civ. I then just play out the game being the sole builder of wonders, being hundreds of years ahead in tech and culture and absorbing all available gold in the world via trades with the various civs.

~ 06:38 Out of curiosity, why did you decide to drop the campus and overwrite the terrain? Since there were only two copper mines to set up, would it not of been more efficient to chop the campus site to help you finish the monument and get started on the campus? Or would the increased cost of production from you discovering foreign trade outweighed this advantage? Or getting the boost for craftsmanship was more important? I'm only asking because you had a builder right beside the tile, so it seemed kind of obvious to me... but I've learned a lot from you and TheGameMechanic so want to know if I'm missing something here. Thanks... not tryna be a dick lol-- generally curious.
@PotatoMcWhiskey
@PotatoMcWhiskey 5 жыл бұрын
Just didn't really think of using the builder - was too excited to place the campus. If I was playing correctly I should have chopped the tile before placing. Craftsman boost is probably more important, but I could have just used the chop production to make a second builder. Definitely just a misplay on my behalf.

I don't wanna come across as a smartass by any means because I make more than my fair share of mistakes when playing... especially when playing and commentating lol ~ 10:30 did you end up saving this barb camp for the 8 or 9 turns until the next age started so the +3 era score wasn't wasted? I tried rewinding a time or two but couldn't tell because of how the video skips around. you say it should be looked at in the balance department, but it looks like the real reason domination was so easy wasn't because 'mongol so broken!', it was because you got the great campuses and a huge tech lead. Gathering Storm for 30€ on steam. Worth it? I have over 100 hours in Civ6 and I enjoy it quite a lot.

Most definitely don't realize how powerful the Mongols were under Khan. The only reason we don't really hear about the Mongol Empire is because as soon as he passed the Empire onto his children they all went at each other's throats so it was a very short lived but quite massive empire. You should look how he took over most of Asia. He took out western Russia, down through Georgia, up to the Mediterranean, was working on wiping the Turkey area and passed away. The only thing that stopped them was the infighting caused through greed and stupidity. If they had stayed united instead of power hungry we would have truly seen the power of the Mongols

As it just happens, I played a Mongolia game today. Got forward settled by Hungary early and had to focus on units early which really hurt settling and my science. I was able to wipe out Hungary but fell too far behind and am having trouble taking out Korea and Persia who are 10+ techs ahead of me.

Hrm. I was inspired by this video and set out to do exactly this. I established a trading post with nearby China (it even showed the city had a post when I was renewing a route) and then when I went to war, I had no buff for it. It was a tough slog of a war. Not sure why I didn't get the buff. Still fun though.
